Pram – Play Of The Waves Lyrics 15 years ago
This song feels like it gives valuable advice for anyone willing to take it: Let yourself be essentially exactly who you are. Transcend the stresses and everyday worries of the average person and let your hopes and dreams take you where they will. Relax and stop trying to find your place in the world because there's so much more out there waiting for you than the one-track life you might be setting yourself up for.

The Dresden Dolls – Sex Changes Lyrics 15 years ago
One little thing about the "pitter patter pitter patter of this little feat of engineering"--I don't think it refers as much to a heartbeat as to the pitter patter of children's feet. Just like she did with the main purpose of the song (abortion vs. sex change), Amanda made another double meaning with the word "feat." It sounds just like "feet" when spoken.

Bright Eyes – Lua Lyrics 15 years ago
If her eyes are painted black, that sounds more like heavy make-up, fitting the "model look," but that's just how I took it. I agree with you that it's not about bulimia, though. Conor wrote his own problem into the song, and I don't think people should try to re-interpret that one.

Once it gets to the last stanza, it does have meaning. You're right; they don't do symbolism, and their lyrics are very straight-forward, but I think plenty of their songs have a deeper meaning trapped inside the "fun" parts, even when we catch a glimpse of it only through a few lines.
