Bad Religion – All There Is Lyrics | 16 years ago |
there's a lot to say on this song and i feel like ppl are missing a lot of it. sure, there's the general idea - can this physical existence be all there is to life? i like maxben's explanation best. it's worth pointing out that, again, as with most Bad Religion songs, it's not literally about religion. religion is more often a metaphor or serves as an example for the bigger meaning. the verse between the 2nd and 3rd choruses is the most interesting and enigmatic and i wish i were able to make more sense out of. "there's an endless disposition, and it doesn't mean a goddamn thing" - i guess that there's an endless order and structure to people's lives, but it's all really meaningless and insignificant "there's space for a paper airplane race in the eye of a hurricane" - comparatively, paper airplanes are completely insignificant and powerless in relation to a hurricane, but they can still thrive in the eye of the hurricane, while the rest of the world is spinning and crashing down around it - metaphor for an individual's life i suppose "and if pigs could fly, then surely so could i" - gofuckeryourself had a good interpretation i think - if greedy, ugly (on the inside), immoral ppl can succeed and seemingly "fly," then it would seem that surely so could anyone "but this pedestrian knows better than to even try" - a pedestrian is someone who walks by foot, so obviously can't fly. however, pedestrian is also an adjective for something lacking inspiration or excitement. possibly a double-meaning. "and my divinity is caught between the colors of a butterfly" - no clue. i honestly thought it was "my debility" and either way i have no clue. thoughts? there's a ton to each line of this song and i wish i could put it all together. i think everyone gets the overall idea though... |
Thrice – Firebreather Lyrics | 16 years ago |
DubbaEwwTeeEff is completely right and the religious aspect just fits under that umbrella. don't say you're interpretation is "truth" and that's it. it fits under the main, general interpretation, as do many other scenarios concerning freedom of expression vs. holding it in for fear of oppression. again, NOT about smoking... i mean i guess that fits under the umbrella of freedom of expression - tell your friends they shouldn't be smoking if that's what you think is right, even if it means you'll get shit for it - but it doesn't mean don't smoke. cross-over between this and a strung out lyric - "i sold my voice to pay for my security" - firebreather means, in a nutshell, don't do that |
Bad Religion – Dearly Beloved Lyrics | 16 years ago |
no guys, this is not about religion. you guys open yer eyes - dont take religion literally. bad religion almost always uses religion as a metaphor. manicspike hit the nail on the head. originally i actually thought the song was about politicians and other leaders who pretend to be able to associate and sympathize with the masses by claiming to be one of them. it seems like manicspike's analysis fits better though. |
Strung Out – Velvet Alley Lyrics | 17 years ago |
soooo uhhh, back to the point of the website... wats it mean? |
Strung Out – Swan Dive Lyrics | 17 years ago |
ack i didnt mean "...songs like this..." i meant "...song like Ultimate Devotion, Bring Out Your Dead..." i just copied/pastied from a comment under Ultimate Devotion |
Strung Out – Swan Dive Lyrics | 17 years ago |
does anyone really know what the deal is between jim and jason? did they both used to be song writers and vocals before jim died? jim's songs being the heavier metal songs like this, Bring Out Your Dead, Just Like Me, etc and Jason writing the other softer (but still sick) songs? idk, does anyone know? |
Strung Out – Unkoil Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i agree with bigwilly although hes a hypocrite lol |
Strung Out – Ultimate Devotion Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i cant seem to get the story straight between jim and jason. did they both used to be song writers and vocals before jim died? jim's songs being the heavier metal songs like this, Bring Out Your Dead, Just Like Me, etc and Jason writing the other softer (but still sick) songs? idk, does anyone know? |
Strung Out – Just Like Me Lyrics | 17 years ago |
yeah maybe, but its a lot deeper than that. has to do with exposing ppl for who they are; not letting ppl hide behind their shell of social deceptions and forcing them to be themselves and show the truth. seems more like that to me. |
Strike Anywhere – To The World Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i think the lyrics are "until the last LOCK (not law) breaks none of us are free" and it also might be "injustice and hunger united" but that one i'm not too sure about |
Strung Out – Skeletondanse Lyrics | 17 years ago |
gotta think more figuratively. not about using drugs to get out of shit, but just living through life as a "skeleton" - not really living, just wasting life away. abusing drugs might be part of this, but its also just not appreciating life and not living your life to the fullest. |
Strung Out – Her Name in Blood Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i agree a lot with cyanide2060 (although i dont think alliteration is the right word...). as with many lyrics of strung out, this song def has to do with loving someone and then hating themselves and that person for it. not choosing to be obsessed with this person but not being able to do anything about it. fantastical and twisted dreams of what to do to this person. thoughts for this person completely consuming yer existance. |
Rise Against – Chamber the Cartridge Lyrics | 17 years ago |
ps the lyrics are wrong in some spots. it starts off "down beyond these city streets through gutters filled with black debris..." and later on "And so we carry on each day as if our lives were not so real..." and also " single mom of three, a tv personality" - straight outta the CD booklet |
Rise Against – Voices Off Camera Lyrics | 17 years ago |
ok here's what this song comes down to: "can you hear the desperate cries that are calling out your name? twisting your arms, holding out their hands and tugging at your sleeve, do you feel this underlying sense of urgency" - figurative, descriptive language basically saying, why wont you notice me "or are you as blind as me?" - raising the question of, are you thinking the same thing? are you as desperate for me to notice you or as frustrated that i dont notice you? do both of us love/need each other but dont have each other due to lack of communication and/or lack of courage to make the first move "I hit the ground and I'm still running" - pretty simple, i've fallen hard or hit rock bottom, but i'm not down and out, i'm still persisting "but I need a place to stay tonight, I swear I'll be gone in the morning I just need somewhere now" - I need someone or something to hold to for at least just one night, begging for just one night not to be alone "I can't bear the thought of losing, I dread the attention winning brings" - pretty self explainatory, not satisfied with losing but doesnt want to stick out of the crowd either, happy with mediocrity "ever since the day I came I can stand without your strings" - from the beginning i dont need you to hold me up or control me or tell me what to do, puppet metaphor "I'm so sick of all these people but I'm scared to be alone" - everyone's felt this, being so sick of their friends and people around them but sticking around cuz it's better than being alone "if this life has taught me anything I forgot it long ago" - pretty self-explanatory, possibly also meaning lost in bliss, not learning anything from being blinded by love, or this one single objective "the heart is something you can't control, we either choose to follow or be left on our own" - we don't choose to love the people we do, and we can't do anything to change it, so we might as well embrace it and try to make something of it. convincing the person they care about not to hide their feelings towards them. perhaps implying the love is taboo. if you try to reject your heart's feelings, you'll only feel loneliness. is the worth the satisfaction of denial? "so we're leaving here on a less-travelled road" - decision to embrace the potentially taboo relationship "as desperate cries grow louder, I know we're getting close" - making more progress towards confronting each other, yet still not really any significant distance accomplished since they're still only desperate cries and nothing more. and optimistic end leaving the rest open-ended. in general, remember not to take lyrics, especially those of good bands like Rise Against, literally. its not literally about the underground and asking someone to hide you away for a night. also, just because Rise Against is politically minded doesn't mean every song is about overthrowing the government, and this song pretty clearly isn't about that, but rather about personal experiences. bands can have emotionally-rich lyrics without being a poppy-ass mainstream emo band. |
Deftones – Around the Fur Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Ben0008 is def right about the chorus, sry Tmaior. it's not a girl speaking... its clearly someone deciding not to get caught up in all that crap. however, i think it might be "should i ignore the fashion or go BY the book" - like the expression "go by the book," go with the flow, etc. also i think it might be "prostitute, climb back down THROUGH the floor" - like at first it sounds like he's telling this person who whore's themselves out to come back down from being high above everyone else, but then revealing that it means to get back down BELOW everyone, under the floor. i also think this song doesn't only refer to prissy girls, but to really anyone at all thats too caught up in looks and fashion and what's on the outside. and i have the same question as Duranie147DC - what are the rest of the lyrics? the last two chorus thats varied? |
Ernies – Nofx Lyrics | 17 years ago |
yeah idk what this is but i don't think it has to do with the band lol. or maybe its another band commenting on NOFX idk. |
Pennywise – Who's on Your Side Lyrics | 17 years ago |
wow fuck you crazypunkgirlXOxoXOxoGAY, thx for being concerned about the flow of the lyrics. actually the song flows fine and has real punk style to it. if you're worried about how a song flows and all that crap then analyze pop mainstream music, not punk you fucking poser. anyway, i think this is song is about being aware of ppl around you and how trustworthy your friends or enemies are. it also comments on how willing ppl are to use and climb over others to succeed, possibly at other people's expenses. also sarcastically points out the problems with conformity and people's tendencies to give in to conformity to feel better about themselves. |
Bad Religion – Shattered Faith Lyrics | 17 years ago |
yeah i agree with the whole idea that its about realizing yer position/status/situation in life and making the best of it etc. Iceberg yer looking at it from a wayyy too hardcore atheist point of view. just cuz you hate religion doesnt mean you can twist every lyric to make it completely anti-religion. bad religion is not necessarily anti-religion, just pro-logic, reasoning, etc. as virtk0s said |
Millencolin – Farewell My Hell Lyrics | 17 years ago |
defffinately a suicide note. not literally the suicide note written by the singer before committing suicide, i doubt he is even contemplating it, but thats def what these lyrics are. saying his last words to all his family members, expressing regret, etc. "being free from pain" in death. i'm not positive about this part, but i think the "farewell to hell" part has to do with ppl saying he will go to hell if he commits suicide. "farewell... to hell!? don't think you go there twice" - he's frustrated/angry that ppl are bidding him farewill on his way to hell for committing suicide. and i think "don't think you go there twice" is implying that he is alrdy in hell, so thats not where he'd be going after death. |
Strung Out – Katatonia Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i agree completely with alucard. having an unhealthy infatuation with someone causing emotional damage and otherwise |
Strung Out – Bring Out Your Dead Lyrics | 17 years ago |
wow guys. there's a direct quote from the song writer, explaining what its about and what it means. why would any of you speculate about OD or drug usage when its clearly spelled out. holy shit. |
Strung Out – Blueprint Of The Fall Lyrics | 17 years ago |
wow no one wants to hear about how much you guys love the song, comments are for song meanings... i agree with cyanide2060, seems to have to do with downfall of possibly America, but also possibly the entire world. mankind wasting away the earth. human pollution. etc. |
Strung Out – Analog Lyrics | 17 years ago |
wow cool comments guys, they really helped me to understand the meaning of the song... i'm not positive about all the aspects of the song but it seems to have to do with someone having an unhealthy obsession over someone, and that they got denied or hurt by that person. "I will not be the same as I was when I was yours!" - i won't be used/abused at your will anymore as i used to when i was overly obsessed |
Bad Religion – A Streetkid Named Desire Lyrics | 17 years ago |
props to the last 3 comments, the rest of you are fucking retarded. look deeper into shit |
State Radio – The Waitress Lyrics | 17 years ago |
yeah i think this waitress is sick of bad working conditions and being used/abused at her job, so she snaps and burglarizes the place (the drawer being the register). final chorus about how she is just living through her life, going through the motions, without really gaining anything |
Rise Against – Worth Dying For Lyrics | 17 years ago |
well way to be stereotypical and judgemental. if it's a good song with a good meaning then don't hate it cuz you "hate hippies" |
Rise Against – Six Ways 'Till Sunday Lyrics | 17 years ago |
definately about changing to fit in with the crowd, conformity, stereotypes, etc. still though i think that there are very few ppl who are not at least a little bit themselves part of the person that the song is about. everyone is quick to say that they can relate this song to someone they know, which may be true, but its almost impossible to deny that you dont fit into the meaning a little too |
Rise Against – Last Chance Blueprint Lyrics | 17 years ago |
definately about unrealized dreams to break out of conforminty and/or the norm to something more special. besides the line "before you swallow me into your perfect life, i'm not going out without a fight," there's also the end of the song "but I fall like dead autumn leaves and let the jetstream carry me" - he's failed and fallen back into the grey jetstream of conformity |
Rise Against – Injection Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i definately agree with xatropaxbelladonnax on the literal interpretation, but it could have more than just that meaning. figuratively, relating to society or living a dull life, it could mean how ppl need a "drug" or a machine ("this plug") to keep them alive. the speaker is conflicted between breaking away from this prison or allowing it to continue to control him. |
Rise Against – Great Awakening Lyrics | 17 years ago |
good point big-mikey. could still have additional meaning, but that interpretation definately works |
Rise Against – Halfway There Lyrics | 17 years ago |
ps - the speaker is also looking for inspiration/motivation to go on, even when they think they are at their limit. "i need a reason," a reason to go on past the supposed limit |
Rise Against – Halfway There Lyrics | 17 years ago |
1 - i agree with jujubeparade, the last part of the song throws me off 2- i do not think that the message of this song is that deciding to take action is half the battle, it seems completely the opposite. this song seems very pessimisstic, but realistic as well. when you think you've reached your limit, when you can't take it anymore, THAT is when you're only halfway there - you still have just as much left to accomplish as you have done to make you think you're at your limit. when "enough is enough," you're really still only haflway through the battle, leaving yet another half to go. |
Rise Against – The Good Left Undone Lyrics | 17 years ago |
reoccuring Rise Against theme of being caught up in love/lust/desire for someone and letting it consume your life |
Rise Against – Faint Resemblance Lyrics | 17 years ago |
possibly about the after-effects of a relationship. they're through and done, but they still have feelings for each other. he knows that he has been used (possibly the cause of the end of the relationship) but still has undeniable feelings for the person. they are being asked back, but cannot decide between giving in to the lust/desire or acknowleding the pain that will ensue and turning away |
Rise Against – Chamber the Cartridge Lyrics | 17 years ago |
1 - tjd5388 its still probably figurative 2 - although Rise Against has definately recently put increasing importance on the environment, global warming, etc, this song still also pertains to problems in society as well. saving us from what we have become in a society. our lives becoming grey - having no individuality. brushing past a myriad of scenes - not caring about the welfare of ppl around you. there are definate environmental concerns, but it's still also about problems in society |
Rise Against – Broken English Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i agree with above, its not only about 9/11, but also not only about terrorist attacks or war. it can also be interpreted in a personal sense, relating to personal experiences and/or emotions (just for clarification, this song is NOT emo) |
