Counting Crows – A Murder Of One Lyrics | 15 years ago |
'We were perfect when we started I've been wondering where we've gone" Amazing... |
Jimmy Eat World – Sweetness Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I just wanted to say fuck all of you who claim that it's shallow to decipher these lyrics as an implication of drug use. That in itself is just shallow. A) Given the context of the song it's a logical assumption. B) If not a single song in your top twenty five favorites infers some sort of drug use you listen absolutely shitty music and you have no place speaking in this or any other forum. So many of the world changing musicians ever to pick up an instrument have expressed themselves and drug use as part of their art. Like it or not it's a fundemental part of musical culture. You cannot condemn our peers on this site for that. Don't be so fucking ignorant. They unlike you are actually being realists. |
The Verve – Bittersweet Symphony Lyrics | 17 years ago |
So beautiful. Maybe the best song ever written. And the title is so appropriate to the feel of the song. The violin part in particular is so bittersweet. |
Bruce Springsteen – Dancing In The Dark Lyrics | 17 years ago |
So I agree with the majority of the posts but I thought I'd just add a little something for thought. I have an acoustic cover of this song done by Pete Yorn. (I think that version is even better, but I am partial to Pete Yorn) Anyway, at the end of the song Pete sings "I was dancing when I was 12. I was dancing when I was 12" Does anyone think that has a connection to the original song or is that just something personal Pete added? It wouldn't surprise me if it was personal just to Pete because he often sings about his childhood. What do you guys think? |
The Libertines – What Became Of The Likely Lads Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I apologize if someone already mentioned this but the version of the song I have has at least a couple lines different than the one listed above. Instead of: "They sold the rights to all the wrongs And when they knew you'd give me songs Welcome back, I said " It goes: "They sold my rights to all my wrongs and then they needed their (or maybe "the") new songs. Welcome back, I sang." (it's possible that he says 'said' not "sang" but I dont think so). Other than the two things that I noted I'm 99% positive what I wrote is the correct lyrics in the version I have. Regardless, the lyrics are different in the version I have as opposed to the one listed. I don't know if it matters to anyone, I just thought I'd throw it out there. |
Spiritualized – Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I understand "wise man say only fools rush in" on a philosophical level. people always say that you cant rush into relationships. but is there a more specific source that they drew that line from? |
Agito Plus Nine – Crappy Love Ballad Lyrics | 17 years ago |
By the way Doomstink, you're an asshole. You wasted five minutes of my life with that bullshit link. |
The Killers – Bones Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"the best foot on a heartbeat" someone wanna clarify that? |
Simon and Garfunkel – Mrs. Robinson Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I find it ironic they refer to Joe Dimaggio for his "good values" considering it is well documented that he beat the shit out of Marylin Monroe on a regular basis. |
End of Fashion – O Yeah Lyrics | 17 years ago |
what exactly does the first line mean? |
Taking Back Sunday – You're So Last Summer Lyrics | 17 years ago |
'Cus I'm a wishful thinker with the worst intentions This'll be the last chance you get to drop my name 'Cus I'm a wishful thinker with the worst intentions This'll be the last chance you get to drop my name I understand literally what he's saying, but I'm not sure exactly what it means in corellation with the rest of the song. A little help anybody? |
OutKast – Hey Ya! Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I know I've already commented on this song, but I just thought I'd throw this out there. I heard somewhere that the working title for this song was "Thank god For Mom and Dad". Just something to think about. |
The Verve Pipe – The Freshmen Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song is amazing, especially acoustic, its one of my top 5 favs of all time. I agree with the base premise everyone seems to know anyway: 2 guys used a girl so much it drove her to suicide. But i think it's important to see the even deeper meaning. He wrote this song in my opinion to free him of the guilt he held onto for so long. So i feel the deeper meaning of the song is we all have to take accountability for our actions at some point, rationalizing our mistakes won't stop guilt from eating us alive. While in some parts of the song blame is admitted many parts of the song deflect the blame for the girls death back to her. But he words it in a way that allows you to know that deep down he truly understands this is at least partially his doing. For example: I can't be held responsible Cause she was touching her face I won't be held responsible She fell in love in the first place For the life of me I cannont believe We'd ever die for these sins We were merely freshmen So thats my long winded take on the song |
Dashboard Confessional – Don't Wait Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I downloaded all of dusk and summer the day it came out, and I gotta say, it's DC's worst album yet. And really it's not all that bad, it's just when you produce music at the level chris does it's hard to keep coming out with a better and better product. I know that doesnt really explain this particular song but most of you havent explained it either so I just thought I'd chime in. |
Little T – Shaniqua (featuring One Track Mike) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Well it just appears that...Shaniqua don't live here no more. |
American Hi-Fi – Flavor Of The Weak Lyrics | 18 years ago |
*should not extend two pages |
American Hi-Fi – Flavor Of The Weak Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Just to settle the argument, because it's one that should extend to pages, it is nintendo. Think about it: It's Friday night and she's all alone He's a million miles away She's just dressed to kill THE TV'S ON HE's CONNECTED TO THE SOUNDS. He's talking about the girls boyfriend sitting and playing nintendo even though she's come over to his house looking absolutely beautiful. So let that settle the score and everyone just shut up about it. Sorry to be rude, it's just this is a good song (great acoustic) and arguing over that is just sort of diminshing it. |
Wyclef Jean – Gone Till November Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"I dedicate this record, 'The Carnival' to all you brothers..." Lewisi, the actual album this song is on is titled "The Carnival". So no, he's not talking about carnival cruise line. |
Radiohead – The Bends Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Let me save all the analaysis: "This is about knowing who your real friends are."Thom Yorke |
The Fray – How To Save A Life Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This is my take: "step one, you say 'we need to talk' he walks, you say 'sit down, it's just a talk' He feels the first thing he needs to do to help his friend is to tell him "we need to talk". And reassure him that everything is going to be ok because after all "it's just a talk" "he smiles politely back at you you stare politely right on through some sort of window to your right as he goes left and you stay right between the lines of fear and blame you begin to wonder why you came" The friend the storyteller is confronting seems to know what the talk is about so he tries to stay calm by "smiling politely" But the storyteller cant bare to look his friend in the eye so he "stares right on through the window" The window could symbolize literally a window the storyteller is looking at to avoid eye contact with his friend because he is "fearful" of what his friend will think of what he has to say (and fearful for his friends life), especially if his friend is not willing to take the "blame" for his actions. And if his friend wont listen to him it's all just a waste of time and he'll "wonder why he came". Referring back to the window, he could also be speaking figuratively, thinking of this as his window of oppurtunity to help his friend. "where did i go wrong? i lost a friend somewhere along in the bitterness and i would have stayed up with you all night had i known how to save a life" He's asking himself "where did I go wrong"? How come I couldn’t reach my friend? And possibly feeling guilty for the "bitterness" he feels toward his friend because his friend hasn’t changed his ways (possibly that bitterness pushed his friend away, making him even harder to reach) And the next part could mean two different things. The more symbolic: "staying up all night" would mean spending a lot of time trying to "save a life" "had he known how" by being there for his friend if he only knew how to help him straighten out his life. Or "staying up all night" could literally mean staying up all night while his friend was going through withdraw from the drugs he was taking and "had he know how to save a life" would then mean if he knew staying up all night with him to help him through his withdraw was what he needed to save his life, he would have done that. (Sorry if none of that made sense, it made more sense in my head) "let him know that you know best 'cause after all, you do know best” He wants his friend to know that he knows what is best for him hence "let him know that you know best". “try to slip passed his defense without granting innocence” He also wants to " try to slip passed his defense" meaning he wants to be gentle enough to were his friend will let down his guard and listen to him but he doesnt want to "grant innocence" meaning not letting his friend believe that his actions weren’t wrong. So basically find a balance between sensitivity and sternness when he is confronting his friend. “lay down a list of what is wrong things you told him all along” Once he has accomplished that he wants to "lay down a list of what is wrong, things he told him all along" In other words, once his friend is listening he's going to try to tell him all the things that he has done wrong, like he's attempted to in the passed. “pray to god he hears you and pray to god he hears you" The storyteller then realizes all you can do after that is "pray to god he hears you" "as he begins to raise his voice you lower yours and grant him one last choice" His friend get angry because of the things he is telling him, but he stays calm and lays it on the line. "drive until you lose the road or break with the ones you've followed" He tells his friend that he can drive himself to his end or choose a better path to follow. "he will do one of two things he will admit to everything or he'll say he's just not the same" His friend will either admit to his wrong doing or he’ll just say he’s not the same person that he used to be and that he can’t change who he currently is. “and you'll begin to wonder why you came” And obviously if his friend chooses not to change “you’ll begin to wonder why you came” because it was a unsuccessful attempt to help his friend. That's just my take. |
Broken Social Scene – Handjobs for the Holidays Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I've had the (clears throat) priveledge of listening to about 4 of their songs. I've concluded that such was a far greater investment of time than needed to come to the conclusion that they all need to cut their prozac's in 1/8ths. |
O.A.R. – Love and Memories Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I'm not entirely sure what this song is about other than the fact he's talking about a past love and how it seemed so go but she ruined it all. However, I agree that this doesn't sound like the typical studio sound of OAR (maybe with the exception of "King of The Thing". In concert, Marc Roberege's voice is less rugged and scratchy and more fluid. Much like this song. Given that, I'm assuming that either none of you have seen them in concert or that you just havent taken that into account. |
OutKast – Hey Ya! Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"My baby don't mess around Because she loves me so And this I know fo shooo.. Uh, But does she really wanna But can't stand to see me Walk ou the dooo.. Don't try to fight the feelin' Because the thought alone is killing me right nooww.." Those are fucking sweet lyrics. Outkast is awesome, they're totally original, nothing like the stupid shit that other rappers try to do. By the way, "DEADLWOMBAT". You're a complete idiot you homophobic fuck. And I find interesting that the word wombat is an acronym for Waste Of Money, Brains, And Time because that describes you perfectly. Wow, you're slut of a mother must really be ashamed to have pushed your useless ass out of that loose vagina of hers. As for the rest of you, have a wonderful day. |
The Early November – Come Back Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This is my second favorite Early November song, the acoustic version is beautiful. |
The Early November – All We Ever Needed Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Lol, you're name is Tony Danza. How can you call anyone gay?I hate fucking homophobes. |
Craig David – Fill Me In Lyrics | 18 years ago |
sorry *94th worst Briton. |
Craig David – Fill Me In Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Just a little fun fact, Craig David was named the 94 Briton by Britain's Channel. I think that's bullshit, but humorous nontheless. Anyway, whoever the girl is that he's talking about is a huge dumbass. Hw could you possibly get caught doing stuff that many times? Oh well, it's still a sweet song, especially acoustic. |
Cary Brothers – Blue Eyes Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"Wish enough, wise man'll tell you a lie Window broke, torn up screens Who'd have thought that you'd dream Of a single tragic scene" I know this has smthn to do with her having painful past experiences, but what exactly does it mean? |
The Wallflowers – The Difference Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I cannot beieve more people haven't posted about this song, it's awesome. I dont know exactly what it means but DJacques75's theory would make sense. Bob Dylan is a crazy motherfucker. |
Weezer – Island In The Sun Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Maybe there's a double meaning to this song, but I interpret as being about doing drugs. Now this idea maybe a little shaky, but I think the guy in the song sees his that his love interest does drugs and he wants to feel the same thing she does. These are a couple things that led me to believe this: "When you're on a holiday You can't find the words to say All the things that come to you And I want to feel it too" My interpretation: Getting high is commonly refered to as "holiday" and when you're high you often have a hard time completing coherent sentences and saying whats on your mind. "and I want to feel it to" Refers to the fact that the guy wants to feel the high his love interest feels. "On an island in the sun We'll be playing and having fun And it makes me feel so fine I can't control my brain" my interpretation: "island in the sun" could mean the place where he feels like he is when he's high. "It makes me feel so fine" refers to the fact that he has fun when he's high. "I can't control my brain" means he cant control his brain because he's so stoned. "When you're on a golden sea You don't need no memory Just a place to call your own As we drift into the zone" my interpretation: He has no worries about anything when he's drifting into the zone (doing drugs) That's my read on the song, what do you guys think about that take? |
The Killers – Andy, You're a Star Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Ok, for the record Brandon Flowers is married. To a woman. And he has said he is 100% straight. Even so...I have a hard time believing him. Not that it matters, or makes him any less of a man, I just though I'd clarify that. |
Colin Hay – I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This isn't my favorite song. But it's easily the most beautiful song I've ever heard. As many of you have stated, it's about someone in love with someon else who doesn't want to be with them. I have the soundtrack of Garden State (which is my new fav. movie) and the whole thing is amazing. |
Ben Folds Five – Emaline Lyrics | 18 years ago |
lol, Naune I agree. I personally like the idea of a horse or a handicap person but I don't see it being the actual meaning of the song. Good try though guys. |
Tegan and Sara – Where Does the Good Go Lyrics | 19 years ago |
it's grey's anatomy douche bag. but despite your stupidity, the song is still amazing and the part that got you got me too. |
Live – Lightning Crashes Lyrics | 19 years ago |
If this helps you guys find meaning to the song then I guess that's good. This is what the lead singer said before playing lightning crashes live in concert (And by the way they played it in acoustic, it was truly amazing). but anywaqy here is what he said: "when we first wrote it, I thought it was about living and dying. But I think now, more, it's about rising and falling. And it goes out to a friend of ours who is undoubtably, totally, absolutely in heaven." There you go guys, i hope that helps! |
Staind – It's Been Awhile Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I see this as meaning something much more specific then what most of you are portraying it to be. I think drugs fucked up his relationship with his father and that's what it's about. And no offense guy, but don't need to share our rehab stories. This is songmeanings.net. Go to your counselor or maybe another site to talk about rehab stories. |
Bowling for Soup – Almost Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I'm not questioning the lyrics cus I'm not a huge bowling for soup fan. But it sounds to me like he's saying: Cuz he almost made off with a bunch of good drugs. Not: Cuz he almost made off with a bunch of the drugs. But oh well. |
Nirvana – Lithium Lyrics | 19 years ago |
*you're |
Nirvana – Lithium Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I'm responding to Crimson Hatred on page 1. Your a dumbass. I have bipolar, and you don't take straight lithium dumbfuck. You may have lithium carbonate in the medications you take (if you are actually bipolar) but you don't take straight lithium douche bag. |
Lifehouse – Spin Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Lifehouse at it's best, this is such a good song. There's just one part I'm not sure I understand: "Why would I chase your shadow all my life? And be afraid of my own I'd rather be with you I'd rather not know Where I’ll be and be alone and convinced that I know" Can someone clarify what that means?By the way guys, this song is even better acoustic. |
Foo Fighters – Times Like These Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I'm pretty sure I heard this song was made in response to 9/11, in fact it might have even been Dave Grohl who I heard say it. I think it was on MTV or something like that. It would make sense that that is what the song is about. |
U2 – I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I think the people who are saying this is about a woman he is in love with are dead wrong. Bono came from a family of strong religious background (his mother was protestant and his father was catholic). I think this is just a song about finding Jesus. -peace- |
Blues Traveler – Run-Around Lyrics | 19 years ago |
wait wait you guys are saying this is an upbeat song? I may be wrong but it sounds like he's talking about some girl that is cheating on him, and at first he is upset and then he decides he loves her anyway. Towards the end it sounds like he's accepted her ways and just plans on dealing with her shit. How is that upbeat and positive? |
Blues Traveler – Hook Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I might be wrong, but I see this song as Popper saying that he doesn't care about how the rest of the music industry is conforming. He's gonna do it his way and nobody is gonna change that even if it means his less conventional style will become unpopular. |
Stone Temple Pilots – Interstate Love Song Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is a response to the last post on page 1. I agree they have a very similiar vibe to pearl jam, I'm glad someone else sees that. But Raw123, what the hell? Are you a goddamn homophobe? Don't be so fucking ignorant and have some fucking respect. |
Hootie & the Blowfish – I Hope That I Don't Fall In Love With You Lyrics | 19 years ago |
You're an idiot oofus, I swear every single song you submit has some sort of error. This song is called Closing Time and was originally by Tom Waits. I know this for a fact because I have the original version downloaded, as well as this version, were Hootie specifically says this was originally by Tom Waits. Get your shit together oofus. |
Hootie & the Blowfish – Only Wanna Be With You Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Sniperwulf 2 YOU'RE FUCKING STUPID!! |
Natasha Bedingfield – These Words Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It's quite apparent what the song is about. What's cool about it is that she can put it so simply and yet make it somehow poetic. I'm a big fan. I agree it sounds like that Nelly Furtado song, which is embarassing cus I hate that song. But eh what can ya do? -peace- |
Nickelback – Why Don't You and I Lyrics | 19 years ago |
My post really has nothing to do with the meaning of the song. (not that any of yours did either with the exception of Twevorz_Mawina , but that's neither here nor there) I just wanted to say that I sincerly hope *lItHiUm* doesn't think he/she/it is a huge hardass by butchering the english language with such a ridiculous excuse for typing. On that note, I wish you all a splendid day! |
Bright Eyes – When the President Talks to God Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I'm not sure whether to interpret this as Connor being athiest or if this is just pure satire, or perhaps it's both. What do you guys think? |
