Don McLean – American Pie Lyrics 22 years ago
http://www.don-mclean.com/i/analysis.asp

In his own words, from his website, Mr. McLean says"I've never analyzed the lyrics to the song. They're beyond analysis. They're poetry." He does discuss that it starts with his memories of Buddy Holly, but goes on to discuss his image of America and what it could become." As I said, in an earlier posting, McLean does not discuss exact details of the cryptic meanings, so all of us are probably wrong, and all of us are probably right......

.....except those who think the plane was American Pie.
"the growing urban legend that "American Pie" was the name of Buddy Holly’s plane the night it crashed, killing him, Ritchie Valens and the Big Boppper, is untrue. I created the term." - Don McLean, 1999

Umm, Roger Wilco, since "You're So Vain" was a number one song one month after Carly Simon married James Taylor, you are wrong and it is not about him. I may be wrong about it being Warren Beatty, (I don't think so though), but you may want to visit the link I have added here.

AC/DC – Big Balls Lyrics 22 years ago
It is a play on words. Your guitar teacher is right, but of course the words have double meanings.

Don McLean – American Pie Lyrics 22 years ago
Turtonhot is right. Don Mclean refused to ever comment on the meanings of the lyrics because he says that if he were to tell what he meant, someone would surely tell him he was wrong. I guess Mr. Mclean is the only one who will ever really know. (and he doesn't seem to be commenting on this message board.)

Quiltlynx. I don't think Bob Dylan ever dated Carly Simon. This song was written about Warren Beatty. Everything else you said is correct. >:)

Quiltlynx, Carly Simon wrote "You're So Vain" about Warren Beatty after he broke up with her.

Vedder does do it justice, but as with most covers the original is still highly superior.

The Beatles – You Won't See Me Lyrics 22 years ago
It is a great son agrzyb. Rubber Soul is my favorite album, and "I've Just Seen A Face" is my favorite song, and not many people share that opinion. :)

I know I will get many people posting that I've Just Seen a Face is on the HELP album, but I am referring to the American version of Rubber Soul which featured both songs.

I disagree with you Maddog. I think 'Live and Let Die' is better. But you are entitled to your opinion.

Buddy Holly – That'll Be The Day Lyrics 22 years ago
I don't know how true it is, but I have heard this was the number one song on the day that Buddy Holly died in a plane crash. Could be a rumor though.

Tom Petty – Mary Jane's Last Dance Lyrics 22 years ago
No, he wasn't. I don't know what his current wife's name is, but his first wife of 20 years was named Linda, not Mary Jane.

The Beatles – I'm Looking Through You Lyrics 22 years ago
"And I Love Her" and "I'm looking through You" are both about Jane Asher, obviously written at different times in their relationship.

Billy Joel – This Is The Time Lyrics 22 years ago
"You've given me the best of you, but now I want the rest of you." Great line that was stolen and screwed up by those faggots named O-Town.

Billy Joel – Big Shot Lyrics 22 years ago
I've heard this song was written about a date Billy Joel had with Bianca Jagger. Judging from the lyrics, I'd say it didn't go well.

Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Lyrics 22 years ago
Jimmy Page said that if he could change one thing, he wouldn't have written this song. He says he hates it. While its not a bad song, it is definitely not their best. By far the most overrated song of all time.

The Beatles – Happiness Is a Warm Gun Lyrics 22 years ago
The title of this song comes word for word from an advertisement John Lennon saw in a local paper. It's a little ironic that he wrote this song given the circumstances of his death. By the way, can anyone tell me what the line "A soap impression of his wife which he ate And donated to the National Trust. " means?

The Beatles – Yesterday Lyrics 22 years ago
The original working title of this was SCRAMBLED EGGS. And the first verse was "Scrambled Eggs. Oh my baby how I love your legs." (or something like that)

It is fitting that THE END is the last song on the last album the Beatles recorded together. (Even though LET IT BE was released later).

The Beatles – Revolution 9 Lyrics 22 years ago
The Beatles can deny all they want that they had nothing to do with the Paul is Dead hoax. But I have played this backwards and it definitely says "Turn me on Dead man" A little more than coincidence? I think so.

The Beatles – I Am the Walrus Lyrics 22 years ago
I don't know how true it is, but I've heard that Paul McCartney wrote everything that John Lennon said during an acid trip and the result was.........
I AM THE WALRUS. Sounds logical. Can anyone verify?

submissions
The Beatles – Glass Onion Lyrics 22 years ago
The walrus was NOT Paul. If you look at the Magical Mystery Tour album. There is a picture of the band dressed in costume playing their instruments. The walrus was at the piano and another animal, (I can't remember now which one), is playing bass (left handed). That one is Paul, not the walrus. I think John Lennon was just trying to confuse all of the people who created the "Paul is Dead" hoax. This song is another answer to all the critics who try to read too much into his music. Most times he meant nothing, but even when he was playing with their heads, people still claim to know what he is thinking. That is what made him such a genius.

Don Henley – The Boys of Summer Lyrics 22 years ago
This song is obviously about the passing of youth. As summer turns to fall, youth also passes to middle age. "Out on the road today I saw a DEADHEAD sticker
on a Cadillac" He realizes that youth is gone because even deadheads have grown up and are even driving cadillacs.

Pink Floyd – Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2 Lyrics 22 years ago
I think the entire Wall album is autobiographical (Roger Waters) or could even be about Sid Barrett. Obviously Waters had much disdain for his teachers, and probably blamed them for much of the emotional problems he (or Barett??) had later in life.

submissions
Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here Lyrics 22 years ago
Wish you were here refers to Syd Barrett, an original member of Pink Floyd, who's extremely exessive drug use caused him to leave the band and be replaced by David Gilmour. Barrett was considered the creative one behind early Floyd. "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" is also a tribute to him, and the Wall is often refered to by some as his biography.

The Beatles – A Day in the Life Lyrics 22 years ago
If the line, he blew his mind out in a car refers to the "Paul is Dead" hoax, how do you explain the line, "Nobody was really sure if he was from the house of Lords."? Although, I do believe the Beatles were behind the rumors, I don't think this one was intentially placed by them. Obviously Lennon was referring to someone in politics. Can anyone explain?
