I feel sorta obligated to post into this although 99% of the whole argument over a song thing seems pretty pointless to begin with.. Anyhow, I love Bright Eyes. The fact that other people think they suck is great. I'm not really affected by what other people like, because I know there are plenty of people out there who would say something offensive about what I listen to and then in turn try to tell me something like Dashboard Confessional is a great emo band or something. So in any case, my musical taste is going to be different from yours and so on. But anyhow I think there was a point to this - as I've stated, I'm a huge fan of Bright Eyes. I think Connor is pretty original and I do enjoy his voice even though I'll have plenty of people disagree with me on it. I also am a pretty big fan of Modest Mouse, and I know there is some great vocal and musical talent there as well. However, comparing Modest Mouse with Bright Eyes is like comparing Blink 182 to any sort of actual punk music. The resemblance just isn't there. And saying that the lyrics to this song are "cheesy" and that Modest Mouse has some kind of constant "lyrical depth" is a bit off too - if you've ever heard Cowboy Dan you know what I mean ;) But I think both bands, as well as several other bands have their high and low points, so it's not worth judging an entire band and/or an artist's talent on one song. And it's really not worth arguing about it in the first place. |

The person probably did a lot for them and they never got a chance to thank them for it, but I think that's because the person dies. It's hard to imagine this song being about someone living with things like "may angels lead you in" and "a song for a heart so big god wouldn't let it live" |
