Saves the Day – All I'm Losing Is Me Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Last summer I wrote a short ten minute play which I entitled "All I'm Losing Is Me" and somewhat centered the cathartic moment of the play around this song. Brilliant. |

Saves the Day – Freakish Lyrics | 21 years ago |
So once there was this guy. We'll call him Mr. Ex. And once there was this girl. We'll call her Becca. They met and fell in love when they were very very young. They didn't know anything about relationships or sex or anything...but they found each other. And they held on tight. They would watch the stars together. One night there was a shooting star and they took it as a sign that they would be together forever. But Becca got bored. She took Mr. Ex for granted. And she broke his heart. Later, she realized her mistake and fell even deeper in love with Mr. Ex. He took her back. But only for a little while. Then...he found another girl. This crushed Becca. Mr. Ex and his new girlfriend had lots of problems. Mr. Ex would always tell Becca all about it. When Becca tried to tell Mr. Ex how she felt, Mr. Ex would always "shut her out." She tried despearately to express her feelings. SHe was loosing sleep. But her words always fell to the floor and slipped out the back door. Leaving her freakish......and dazed....And she took it...And watched his eyelids...as he felt the pain of one relationship...while she felt the pain of two. |
Jimmy Eat World – Authority Song Lyrics | 22 years ago |
I think...and I could be WAY off here that this song is about a guy who is trying to approach a girl. They are obviously at a club/bar with a jukebox and there is dancing/chatting going on. I know when I have a thing for a guy it's completely obvious and up front. I can't hide it...try as I might. And it's very frightening to put yourself out there like that all the time...ya know...always having your heart on your sleeve. At first he says "I'm not scared anymore." Meaning that he's ready to approach a relationship...ready to express his feelings. But then he says "I don't seem obvious, do I?" This may be him questioning himself about how she is perceiving him. Whether he is being too upfront or "obvious" about his interest in her. I majorly identify with his dilemma, because I am always afraid...and I am always obvious. |
John Mayer – 3x5 Lyrics | 22 years ago |
I just got back from spending a month in London. I was living in Southwark right next to the Globe doing some work there...so I had to cross the various bridges over the Thames every day. Walking across those bridges at night and staring at Big Ben or the Houses of Parliment. Looking at incredible architecture and the churches of long ago...totally reminded me of this song. You see...everyone I loved was back over the pond. After I would get my pictures developed there was no comparison to the beauty that I felt watching them. Which is what I think of this song. Sometimes we experience beauty and our loved ones just cannot enter into the picture. "I guess you had to be there." I can't even tell my friends about how beautiful it is because I "lose my way with words." And when you experience something truly incredible you "over{come} trying to fit the world inside a picture frame." Expanding your horizens...This is possibly my favorite John Mayer song. I like the creepy undertones in the music...and I think it's beautiful and truthful. |
Dashboard Confessional – Hands Down Lyrics | 22 years ago |
"This is a song about the best day of my life."--With those simple words Chris takes us on a mind blowing journey. We've all been there. We've all felt the tension between two people...just busting to be close to each other. It's my favorite Dashboard song of all time. The first time I heard it was last Halloween at my second DC show. He said something like "This song is about making out" before he started it. And hey, I'm all for that. Truly the best song about making out ever. Chris's incredible ability to grab our personal experiences by the metaphorical balls and sqeeze them hard is something I will never get over. Because we've all been there. That's why we like the song. That's what music is all about. And frankly, that's what emo is all about. Now I'm sort of straying away from Hands Down. Well...............This song makes me want to grab whoever is sitting next to me and start sucking face. |
Ben Folds Five – Brick Lyrics | 22 years ago |
I think that the true meaning of this song (issues with abortion etc) have been fully discussed on this board. So I won't go there. But...This is truly one of my favorite songs of all time...and I know that many times in my life I found myself driving in my car with someone or alone and thinking of Brick. I first heard it...whoa...a long time ago at one of my many parties that I threw in my day. And...my family being the crazy one that it is...we always rented one of those moonwalk thingies. (And this wasn't just when I was little...all through highschool too). And the party was over. And my friend Jonathan and I we laying in the moonwalk looking up at the stars. He was telling me about this girl he liked...blah blah blah...and we were listening to Brick (on repeat) on this little stereo. It must have been...seventh grade...or 8th maybe...and I swear all I could think about was that song. And I don't know why...of all the songs that I've heard in my life...that one still moves me the most. I've never had an abortion...or known anyone who has really. But I have been in a relationship that is falling apart. And I realize the sadness and perfection of moments. Like...driving...driving in silence with someone. It's those moments when "I'm alone...and She's alone...And now I know it" that we can all feel. Sometimes there is freedom in that feeling of being alone while still being in someone elses company, but mostly you just feel like crap. I hadn't heard about Darren making up the lyrics. That sort of saddens me, because I always thought of that as very relevant. The girl is sinking him. The relationship is going nowhere. She's holding him back. We've all felt that with people too. Drowned by someone we love very much. Anyway...some nights...I still think about many a relationship I have had and shed a little tear because I know the restlessness...the listlessness...and the loneliness...of the end. |
John Mayer – Sucker Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Well...I don't want to reiterate or regurgitate other's comments but...John Mayer is amazing...And thats simply not enough! But in this song he struggles and succeeds with the topic of a guy who likes a girl so much that no matter what she does...he's stuck with her. I think this is a universal theme (everyone has someone like that in their life). And that is what makes this song so damn appealing. I'm seen John Mayer (a lot)...and...he's only played this song live once when I saw him...but he started with Comfortable (which I'm sure many of you know) and went straight into this song. I think that gives us some insight about the two meanings of the songs...and putting them together was ingenious. (Maybe they were even written about the same girl!) I think that is why John Mayer keeps getting more and more popular....using clever and yet obvious metaphors (read: bong hit, beer, weather, etc) to describe himself in this situation is just one way of making us feel what he feels. Which in short, is the purpose of music. Wow...I didn't mean for that to be as "important" as it sounded. This song is just good...it's happy and catchy and there. I feel like I've said my piece. :o) |
Ben Kweller – Falling Lyrics | 22 years ago |
For me...this song signifies so many things. On a personal level...I "discovered" Ben Kweller at a Dashboard Confessional concert and he's become one of my favorite people in the world. I've had the fortunate opportunity to see him play many, many times and his live shows keep getting better (especially now that he's touring with a band and not all by himself). This is my favorite BK song...I'm from Dallas so I identify with his description of Dallas being home. And I see him talking to some old friends that he has here maybe in the song. And it's like that for me coming home again. Um...Times Square is possibly my favorite place in the world. So I identify with that image too..."a heart attack"...But what really touches me about this song is the underlying emotion and giving up of being in love. You see him saying "Just say "hello" to the ground." And it gives the image of letting go while falling in love and that image of free falling (possibly out of control). But now on a silly level when he says "Wanna hold you like never before" I get shivers. Oh...and...babababababa! is the coolest lyrics ever!! |
