I love this song. What's great about it us the desicion to just keep it real simple. Bono singing a capella with synth, and basic chords added. Really awesome. |

Yeah, I'm going to contradict myself here. It WAS originally written about love, but then became a song that was for AIDS awarness and also about a gay boy talking to his father. But basically the song could work for any fragile relationship. |

U2 – Discothèque Lyrics

|
Yeah, discotheque is french.
And it is a good dance song. I think they made it just for that purpose. In my opinion, it's not supposed to be a really deep song. I think it 's a song that they just went ahead and had fun on. They have plenty of deep beautiful songs. |

U2 – In God's Country Lyrics
|
Ok...as for the meaning, Bono originally wrote it about Ireland, but then changed to America.
The clues to that are, "she is liberty, and she comes to rescue me''(statue of liberty) and the constant metaphor with dreams (Bono sees America as a land of dreams, but also as a land of despair{sad eyes, crooked crosses}).
Even though the tune is uplifting, the lyrics say otherwise. |

I think I'm going to agree with Satisfaction's post, way up at the top.^^If you watch one of the music vidoes for this song, the whole band crossdresses, and bono did even comment that the music video is about the dual sexuality in everyone.
Of course, it could be about love, also. It has the potential to have many different meanings, just like all their great songs. |

U2 – Stay (Faraway, So Close!) Lyrics

Yet another phenomenal song by U2.
It's one of their songs that are so beautifully vague, it could really be about anything that has meaning to you. Other examples are With or Without You or Where the Streets Have No Name. They're so deep, and poetic. God, Bono's a genius! |

U2 – Van Diemen's Land Lyrics

Ok, so now, first off, I would like to applaud Mr. The Edge for writing such a cool song. I love the guitar in it.
And I think, this song was written about an Irish poet who was exiled to Tasmania(or Van Dieman's Land) because he spoke out against the British government. |

U2 – The Fly Lyrics

Oh, how sad that nobody's written about this song...I like this song.
Isn't it funny how this song kinda birthed The Fly? And out of that came all the other little interesting Bono alter-egos-Mirrorball Man, and (oh god) Mister Macphisto? Sorry just had to ad that in. |

Wow, your ass must be genius. Why don't you just communicate through your ass, and sew your big mouth shut? Maybe you would think up better comebacks. |

I agree with emann333...you don't neccessarily have to know Bono's actual inspiration for this song, because the lyrics are so vague, you can take it to mean different things.
As for the name of the song, I'm not quite sure. |

Yeah, they did do it pretty well. I love that part in Rattle and Hum, where Bono says, "This song Charles Manson stole from the Beatles....we're stealing it back," and then it starts....it's awesome |

U2 – Kite Lyrics

This is about losing somebody you love. Although Bono did write it with his Dad in mind, I read somewhere that this song was for his kids-for when HE died.
Anyway, it's a beautiful song. |

U2 – Walk On Lyrics

Leuvenite is right about what the song was written about, but I've said it before-I'll say it again...the beauty of U2's lyrics is that you can take them any way you like and take them your own way and in your own meaning. With Bono's songs, there isn't necessarily only one meaning.
But yes, leuvenite is right. They did write it in dedication to Aung San Suu Kyi, who's name is even mentioned in the booklet for All that you Can't leave Behind.
Nothing to Lose needs to stop polluting these beautiful songs by its presence. |

This is a good song. Of course, with most of their songs, it's probably written about religion.(listen to the lyrics real close-you'll hear the proof) but you can take it to mean other things.
I like it. |

Yeah. I'll agree with ^. I think, though it has a little meaning as what wydok said, but it doesn't go deep like their other stuff.
Hey sic n twisted, go hang with your little Queen groupies, and stop insulting U2 songs by your presence.

One of their best songs. Hell, it's one of the best songs ever written. There are a lot of different ways to interpret it. I think that's the true beauty of Bono's lyrics. You can interpret them different ways and apply them to your own life. Especially this song. It touches so many people so many ways. A truly beautiful song. It belongs up in the top five of best songs ever written. Ever. |

U2 – Seconds Lyrics

This song appears to be about warfare. There are numerous mentions of war-like things in the lyrics...'lightning flashes across the sky...', 'and they're doing the atomic bomb.' It would make sense since most songs on that album are about political subjects, and the actual name of the album is 'War'.
It's a good song. I personally like it a lot. |

This is an incredibly pretty song. In my opinion, they should have included it on the Best of 1980-1990 album, but oh well. It's about losing somebody you love, and Bono was inspired to write it after his friend's death. |

At first appearance, the song seems to talk about suicide, but I actually read somewhere that one part of the lyrics are quite similar to a book or article written on murder...implying that this song is about murder rather than suicide. |

U2 – The Refugee Lyrics
|
This is a very good song, in my opinion. This song deals with the political and social situation in Ireland. The album that this song was on, 'War', was their most political albums, and this particular song takes the subject of war head on. I think in the beginning, though, the 'whoa, whoa' is REALLY War, War. Which would state that War is the refugee. The rest of the song clearly ties into that theme. It's a metaphor that is continually repeated. |

Personally, I really like this song. I know it's one of their 'throw-away' songs on that album(as bassist Adam Clayton put it), but still, it's pretty. It's an innocent song, and I love Edge's harmony, and the guitar! |

U2 – Drowning Man Lyrics

This song was actually written for Adam Clayton, the bassist. He was struggling with alcohol, and I think it was saying to look toward the band, and toward God for help(all the band members except Adam Clayton are religious). |
