I believe this song is about MP's rise to fame with Sex & Candy and their encouragement for other small bands to follow their dreams. They danced with the devil, through all the ups and downs of the rock & roll business. Instead of staying at the top, they didn't dwell in their contentment or listened to critics by churning out pop songs. They found the real pot of gold; the happiness of creating the music they love and walking their own path, even if they are no longer "hotter than the sun." |

As Kim Deal says, she got the lyrics from a discarded art book she found on the street while on tour. It appeared to belong to a child, who had written a short story about another universe where monsters and people partied together.
Hence the weird lyrics. Great new song from one of the greatest bands. |

The first song I heard by The Gathering, which made me fall in love. Almost every song they produce is a work of art. After listening to this song 10 times over, I realized I had no clue what Anneke was even saying. Their music just puts you into a trance. Hehe.. |

I'm surprised nobody has commented on this song. I don't listen to a great deal of punk, but this song is a classic. The focus is a guy who has lost a girl who was very important to him. Obviously, by the way he feels, she must have left him for another man. Sooner or later, he believes that his love will come back to him when she finds out the new guy isn't what he seemed to be.
