this song is great. tim kasher has such a way with words. i think it's pretty obvious that he's talking about his girlfriend or something of the sort becoming distant as the autumn comes. when he talkes about "the days when we made it the world was green", he means that they were together and happy during the summer, and now that it's fall, things are changing. although this song is sad, autumn is a beautiful time of year. |

"you go to sleep dreamin how you would be a different kind if you thought you could / but you come awake the way you are instead" - i think that relates to when you go to bed thinking you need to make a change in your life and that when you wake up the next day, you will start over and do things right, but you always wake up not feeling like doing much of anything to change...does that make any sense? |

i love this song so much, adam always sings it with such passion...i must say, you should definitely check out some of the live versions of round here, they are equally amazing..my favorite being from the vh1 storytellers when he sings
