Dieradiodie – The Chase Lyrics 16 years ago
Ok, the previous post’s interpretation is a little off. His expressed unfamiliarity with the bible is apparent. The biblical references are there, but neither in such great supply, nor in the form he expressed them as.

“I'm going back on my word / Driving the nails in deeper” –
This is a clear reference to the nails driven into Jesus at the crucifixion. His statement follows the idea that his actions are like driving the nails deeper on the cross, adding to the suffering of Jesus’ crucifixion.

“I'm sweating blood over” –
This could be another biblical allusion. Jesus sweats blood on the Mount of Olives.
- “And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.” Luke 22:44 – This would be a more appropriate biblical imagery to go along with the “sweating blood” line, as opposed to the crown of thorns.

Finally, the last lines are: “Evading the truth / Concealing my own lack of self-worth.”

Thrice – To Awake and Avenge the Dead Lyrics 16 years ago
I do not pretend to know truly, what the writer of this song was meaning. However, I will note the striking similarities between the following lyrics and biblical imagery:

“Old friend they told me you were dead / The news broadcast the funeral” –
Possibly, the apostles were panicked after Jesus’ crucifixion for they thought their Lord was dead; Mark 16:10-14. –OR- maybe the apparent death of belief in the sovereignty of God.

“500 channels focus in” –
Jesus appears to 500 witnesses after his resurrection; 1 Corinthians 15:6

“Your love was / Ravished drawn and quartered / The soil was swift to drink her blood / This violence in the name of love” –
Possibly an allusion to the crucifixion? The violence being the brutal killing of a man who had done no wrong, all part of a plan by God to redeem mankind and close the gap between the two. The crowds were certainly swift to send Jesus to the cross.

”But I still feel you / Despite your tombstone / So friend you must still walk among us / In places we don’t dare to glance” –
This could very easily be an allusion the resurrection of Jesus. The stone was meant to ensure that none could enter the tomb, yet one did leave. The recognition of Jesus, or the lack there of, could be a reference to the travelers on the road to Emmaus; Luke 24:13-33. On the other hand, possibly it is a social commentary on the growing generation who no longer turns to Jesus.

“I saw you killing Aristotle / I know its all part of the plan” –
Someone wrote earlier that Dustin said this song was about “reason.” This statement along with the line above reminds me of this scripture, “Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?” 1 Corinthians 1:20

“To Awake and Avenge the Dead” –
It is through the resurrection of Jesus Christ that Christianity obtains its validity. Without it, our God is dead. Yet, when Christ returned, he brought justification on all mankind. For all of have sinned sin is death (Romans 3:23; 6:23) Without intervention we are all dead. Yet, with Jesus Christ, He came to awake and avenge the dead, through His sacrifice destroying that, sin, which would have destroyed us.

Maybe I am wrong, but I find it hard to dismiss my own look into it. We know Dustin uses biblical imagery in songs. Deadbolt uses from Psalms. We also know of his love of the Christian author and theologian CS Lewis. I am only trying to connect the dots; you do what you wish with the picture.

Glassjaw – Tip Your Bartender Lyrics 18 years ago
the lyrics are wrong.. if you would have bought the GJ cd, you could have looked at the lyrics that come on the cd, and they go as follows:

hit it one more time for our men in uniform
(with a price uon their heads).
this is war.
bottoms up.
call it what you want, the color changes up in the sun.
not throwing stones at you anymore.
your name's in light and i don't wonder anymore.
all my X's live with hexes.
this is why i hang myself with jealousy upon a fence post half mast.
fashion: war between the guilty and the guilty and the teen.
i'd like to die like mice do.
i'm crying in the beer of a drunk man.
fashion.
buy it.
load it.
shoot it.
