Doves – Snowden Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I haven't finished Catch-22, but as soon as I saw the name Snowden, I was reminded of this song. It's not often you see that name, I guess. I definitely see a lot of parallels to the scene described by peardrop and the song. "We have been warned" could be just how the men became involved in the war despite their best attempts to involve it. I think maybe Yossarian's turnaround in attitude - his loss of courage, his selfishness and ridiculousness, stemmed from Snowden's death (but like I said I haven't finished the book) "Oh when is it our turn? Why should we care?" Might have been something of Snowden's last words that really tweaked out Yossarian and made him want to avoid his time to die at any costs. |

Holden Caulfield and Jane Gallagher. The end. It is a beautiful song and it reminds me of them - specifically Holden - to no end. |
Jimmy Eat World – Night Drive Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I don't see suicide in it whatsoever. Just that one line, "the cold will kill us quicker than the fumes" is about, you know, keeping the car on when they parked. I don't even think they were in a place where fumes could get to them; remember, "No one will know us and the moonlight." They'll probably in a secluded place in the woods. These lyrics ARE really incorrect... I agree with prayingmantis and alissandra in a sense. When I heard the first stanza, it seemed delicious, a beautiful JEW song about love, like any other. but by the chorus I was starting to get iffy. By the second I was sure it was getting lusty, but by the end of the third my jaw dropped - I think it's about rape. Instead of "quitting alone will never get you drowning" I think it's dry... I think it did start out about love. I think my first impressions are sorta right - it's teenage love, then they get drunk - could be literally, but in all likelihood figuratively - on their passion. The girl seems to come to her senses, becoming "dry" either literally or figuratively, or both, and she doesn't like what's going on. "Cheap shots," "make him notice with both fists." I'm not so sure as Alissandra on this being figurative but, you know... And whether it's about a girl coming to her senses in the throwes of passion or not, This song did start with love, to me. I believe he didn't mean to go too far, it's just that she wasn't ready. And at any rate, even if you don't agree with me, it is a dark song. It's gorgeous, for sure. I love it. But I can't imagine relaxing or driving aroudn with this song playing. It makes me uneased. |

Actually, it's about growing up in a shithole where no one cares about you or what you do until you're drunk and then you're just instantly grounded. Good work, Frat boy. |
Jack Off Jill – Strawberry Gashes Lyrics | 22 years ago |
I love this song... I found it at kinda a low point... *small smile* er, I don't think it's about rape, the girl's just depressed about everything. I think the line "some things you lose and some things you just give away" is about the, er, cutter talking to her friend about how life has taken so much of her, so she might as well help life along and give it herself in the cutting, because everything feels so hopeless anyway. Does that make sense? |
