I'm going to have to agree with the people who brought up the Da Vinci Code(couldn't put that book down). I WANT to say that in this song Maynard is renouncing the new testament and accepting Mary Magdalene for the goddess that she was, not the whore the bible make her out to be, as a sort of metaphor for all the beautiful things embodied in the female being. There is a contradictory point to this though in that he states "I've lost my self-control, beyond compelled to throw this dollar down" and "I'd sell my soul, my self-esteem a dollar at a time ", leaving me still questioning the true meaning of this song. Oh well, I guess I'll never know. |
