I think I really know what this song means because it sort of applies to me (and everybody else on the planet). "I don't want the world to see me/Cuz I don't think that they'd understand." Pretty much sums it up. It's about not showing anybody your true self because you're too afraid. It's hiding yourself behind made-up images, copied from other people and then compiled into one for you, so you don't get hurt. It's about wishing there was just one person you could show your true self to, and finding that person (you think), then losing the nerve. "And you can't fight the tears..." verse is finally realizing you can never show anybody. Or letting a bit of the 'real you' slip. That's the 'moment of truth in the lies'. Nothing feels real because you're hiding, is the "movie" part. I love this song (and hte video) because I really identify with it. This one, and Jumper...

I think it's about the corruption of most authority figures in the US. Their use of excessive force, and beating on people who don't deserve it. Grrrr. I know what I mean in my head, but I can't write it - the picture is sort of police beating on a black teen just cuz he's black, but more all-encompassing than that. Anybody besides me understand that? Anyways, the 'deer dance' is the way a hunter will stalk a deer. The deer senses something is wrong, runs a few feet, and stops. This continues, like a weird dance, until the hunter is close enough for a shot. The "Beyond the Staples Center..." verse is about the grime and dirt of America, and the corruption, but then how there's still a little bit of hope in the kids. "The fall guy" is how there's always a scapegoat, someone else to blame. It's never your own fault anymore, always someone elses. "A plastic existence" is fading into all those plastic toys and such to escape the harsh brutalities of life. The "Round, Round", and the way the lyrics all repeat, is symbolism of how it is all a viscious cycle. The stuff about "dressed in black" is how the only way you can get peace is to give in, and even then, it just gets worse. Or, perhaps, there's only peace in death, and that is symbolism for the devil... Anyways, the "little boy smiles, and all will be well" part is how people just look on and smile, like it's allright. Hmm... Another one I'm proud of...

I think it's about suicide from slashing your wrists. (Random point that has nothing to do with nothing: some of the lines are directly out of 'Jesus Christ: Superstar' and some are from the Bible) "Angels deserve to die". That's people thinking they deserve to die, and killing themselves, when they really don't. "Self-righteous suicide" is pretty much the same thing, but from the other point of view. Knowing that they deserve it, and doing it. "Grab a brush...makeup" is trying to hide things, same with the next line about scars. They're hiding it in hopes that it will go away, but it won't. The line about 'creating another fable' would be the lies upon lies that are interwoven into an excuse/storfy of some sort that is being used as an explanatin for... something. Hey, looking back on this, I'm actually pretty proud of it... Actual, coherent thoughts!

Before I heard the Charles Manson thing, I always thought this song was about the helplessness we often feel in our lives. You know that feeling, that you're watchign the world pass you by, and you have no control. It's just sweeping you along like when you're caught in the rapids right before a waterfall.
