i can't help but think of schizophrenia when i hear this song. some people just black out when another personality takes over.
"if you're gonna say shit now you'll do it out loud "
this may be him trying to face this other personality telling the other one to come out.
"the both of you can just fade to black"
he's so sick of this disease that both personalities can just fade to black. sleepwalking may be when the other personality takes over and he blacks out. this is just my interpretation of the song but i think elliot or whoever wrote it was going more for slike's explanation. slike's point was very well put and made me think a lot. |

this song reminds me of eraserhead, which was a big influence on black francis and myself. henry, the main character, has an unseen cry for help because he is in his own hell. he seeks refuge in the lady in the radiator, the necrophiliac next door (elevator lady), and the hope that someday he'll descend into heaven. "He kicked a baby" may refer to the part where henry kills his baby.
this is just an idea and if you saw the movie you'll know what i'm talking about.

this is my favorite pixies song. it is so deep and the music goes with the lyrics great. it's incredibly catchy and mysterious. i think it means just trying to get a message across to someone and them just ignoring you. it could probably be a person being tortured by misery and he can't tell anyone and no one senses. the sun part was probably just put there because it fit, like many pixies lyrics were. |

i think reqb was on the right track. i think this song is about seduction. we are reluctant to give things dear to us, such as a bike, but still we want what we are trying to get. the chorus is about giving a girl anything she wants so you can f%$& her. the cloak symbolizes what people are willing to give, junk. gerald and the gingerbread men just might mean an army of some sort that you have seduced and follow you. and, like rebq said, the last stanza is probably about gettin laid. this is just a guess |

this part i'm sure of. In the building of the empire state buildings and other buildings, people used native americans because they were "fearless of looking down". now this part i'm not sure. i think frank is somewhat amazed by it. he probably wonders about what goes on in a navajo spirit. |
