Soundgarden – Never the Machine Forever Lyrics 21 years ago
Is it about that crazy show they air at 2am called 'robot wars', where college students battle their home made robots?

Soundgarden – My Wave Lyrics 21 years ago

Soundgarden – Pretty Noose Lyrics 21 years ago
I thought it might be about being dissattisfied with the record label. They feel they're in a pretty noose? I have no supporting evidence to back this statement up with! Is there any?

Soundgarden – Zero Chance Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is so ace, it's soo depressing - in a good way! I listen to this song and I feel like, The world is a mess, I am a mess, the end is nigh and that OK by me! So peacefull, yet it has a hidden dynamism that surges through it like deep currents of a river. acetox.

Soundgarden – The Day I Tried to Live Lyrics 21 years ago
no no no no no, I concur with the elder commentarian statespeople of this page who describe it as a song about being inspired to go out and be different, and it all goes horribly wrong. The narrator realises he is the same as everyone else, he is humbled by his experince and is in no position to be judgemental. In such a state, bliss may be found for connection with others is at a maximum. Hence the music that it accompanies the lines "just like you" is music that says "and what a releif" not " I found out I'm just like you and I hate myself and I want to die"

Soundgarden – Searching with My Good Eye Closed Lyrics 21 years ago
I agreee. But I would say it describes intense periods of change in the human maturation process. The narrator sees his own mind from the perspective of the other mind set which he is yet to fully grow into. What do YOU think?

Soundgarden – Room a Thousand Years Wide Lyrics 21 years ago
ha ha ha ha ha. Good one, sommy. This song seems to play with the concepts of onotogical, or our inner experince of time, and 'clock' time. To me this song means a lot. I was bottoming out from a drug addiction and the whole thing about, having something inside you that lives/sees while you are in denial or are dead in some metahporical way really helped me. It was like having a religious experience, listening to those lyrics, cause they really verbalised my 'reality'. It speaks to me of time lost to the addiction "all these years will not begin" and of a tomorrow that never arrives "tomorrow begat! tomorow!". The lies, the false opportunites "a thousand doors, a thousand lies". The grind of addiction, it was a period that seemed to be "a thousand years wide". With no recess! It was like being traped in a big room. And the sense of disbelief as encapsulated by the lines "all these years can not be mine". That's exactly what I used to think while I was in my addiction: this can't be my life. I walked " in the cold sun and rain", that is to say, no matter what my life looked like externally, I was cold, always, because of the addiction. And towards the end of my using, I thought that all my hopes "(would) not begin". Thats what I read into it at the time. Like I said, in the convalesence of withdrawl, a lot of things seem like religious experiences, what I'm saying now, is that this was one of mine, and it was so awesome that I just had to share it with you. Thanks for reading my rave!

Soundgarden – Jesus Christ Pose Lyrics 21 years ago
I thought it was also about co-dependecny. Like someone was trying to help the narrator, but the narrator didn't need to be, let alone want to be helped. The person trying to help therefore, is experienceing co-dependency and the narrator is just like "go away"

Soundgarden – Get on the Snake Lyrics 21 years ago
It's Chrisses favorite pickup song. "hey baby, get on the snake, you know what I'm talking 'bout?" And when he sees they have some STD he's like "hey baby, what's your disease? I'm dying to leave - bye" he he he he he

Soundgarden – Full on Kevin's Mom Lyrics 21 years ago
It's about someone sleeping with their friends mum and not paying her and getting angry when she asked for payment and going 'full on'. Poor Kevin, huh?

Soundgarden – Fell on Black Days Lyrics 21 years ago
This song has reverberated round my head since I first heard it when it first came out. Did anyone see the video to it? Simple but effective. Black/Brown and white. Just of the band playing and Chriss looking very constipated while singing. Great.

Soundgarden – Black Hole Sun Lyrics 21 years ago
Yeah, I take a theological perspective on this on too, especially in light of other songs he has written. And what about the guitar solo? Is that ace or what?! I heard that Kim Thyle made it up on the spot and recorded it in one take. Awesome. The vid deffinatley backs up the whole 'bring on the appocolypse' theme. It's very modern ameican goth like.

Nirvana – Something in the Way Lyrics 21 years ago
I think this song is actually about Kurts secret desire (Which he never spoke or wrote of, hence it was a secret one) to be an upstanding classical musician, hence the opening riff is a classic Root to minor 6th and back again pattern. But somthing seems to be standing in the way of him realising his dream. He's so unhappy at the propspect of never becoming an upstanding classical musician that he contemplates living under a bridge rather than living with the self he might know one day if he ever failed to acheive his dream.

Nirvana – Very Ape Lyrics 21 years ago
Well, I once read about how kurt refered to himself as 'the king of illiterature' to mock Coutney when she would rub it in his face, the fact that she was had read a lot more books than he had. And the rest of the song, I think, is not pointing the finger at the people he grew up with, but is revelaing his own warts. In interviews toward the end of his life, a Kurt who is becoming more and more painfully aware of his own short comings of chartactor emerges. Hence, I would be inclined to beleive that this song is a minor 'inventory' of defects. I could be wrong...

Nirvana – Radio Friendly Unit Shifter Lyrics 21 years ago
The song means to me: Kurt was sick of having his privacy invaded by a public who thought they'd starve with out their skelenton key, how even after he's got everything he wanted, he's still not happy and want what others have, he feels neurotic about this hence the line "what is wrong with me/why do I think, I think." The bridge (which I think is so musically brilliant) seems to be Kurts proffered ethos on how he plans to get to where he wants to be (at peace). THIS IS JUST MY OPINION

Nirvana – Endless, Nameless Lyrics 21 years ago
I concur with those who say that the idea is to freak people out after they have almost fallen asleep listening to somthing in the way. Kurt loved how Led Zeplin always put a chill song at the end of their albums as it made him sleepy, especially after getting stoned. He's trying to emulate that effect but he goes one step further, using it to play a practicle joke on the listener.

Nirvana – Beans Lyrics 21 years ago
I think the song is about beans

Nirvana – Milk It Lyrics 21 years ago
I think the song says that Kurt sees himself as having become self-sufficient (the opening lines) and the rest of the song is imagery of the results of being overly self sufficient. I say this in refernce to what little I know about addicts; that they are often overly self sufficent to the point where they don't ask for help ever, they just isolate and go insaine.

Soundgarden – Spoonman Lyrics 21 years ago
Actually, you're all right. I have spoken with Chriss many times about the meaning of this song and as it happens it's about an Indian who has become addicted to smack and is dying. He has become so drug riddled that he can barely move and makes money to feed his habit by playing the spoons, in a way not dissimilar to a seattle artist by the very name of 'Spoonman', however, these two people are not one. Chriss told me that the line "i'm together with your plan" is a reference to their shared dream of being the first men to co-ordinate the whole world clapping along to the old hippy song 'come together', hence the rather cryptic line "come together with your hands". The 'save' in "save me" is used in the sense of 'except'. What he is getting at is that while everone is clapping he wont be, because the coordination job would be too large for him to participate in the event.

Nirvana – Sappy (Early version) Lyrics 21 years ago
p.s. KC was a Calvinist at one point, wasn't he? He had a tatoo on his arm from the days when he was with some Calvinistic youth group. That is why I think the song is about being dry cleaned into somthing better, even though it seems like God is a kid and we're his play things in a jar. I interpret it that way due to KCs background with Calvinism

Nirvana – Sappy (Early version) Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is so... ace. It's beautiful. I heard it some time ago and learnt to play it and had been singing along to it with different lyrics, I thought the chorus was either "you'r inaugural" or "you'r in our group"! I was wrong the whole God things changes the meaning somewhat.

I must admit I was surprised to discover it was about god. I though it was some kind of Polly derivitive where it's about someone trapped in an abusive realtion ship. The bit about being in a laundry room made no sense to me. Unless there's somthing in his diaries, we'll never really know, huh. What come's to my mind is connotations of being made clean or pure and the laudry is the metaphorical place where that happens.

Much like the world where we have a variety of experiences that shape and mold us and ulitmately mature/sanctify/give us recovery (for all you 12th steppers out there ;) and some of those experiences we like and some dislike. The verses seem to describe that world, which can be confusing. At times it can be like we're stuck in the wash of life, being beaten around mercilessly by powers greater than our selves and at others it's like being in the dryer... nice and warm.

Thanks for reading! :)
