Butthole Surfers – Moving to Florida Lyrics 15 years ago
A couple of these lines are wrong. It's actually "They be makin' tadpoles the size of MERCURIES," and also "grinding a White Castle SLIDER out of India's Sacred Cow."

Sixpence None the Richer – Kiss Me Lyrics 17 years ago
"Oh, and, ApollyonCrash, this song was written by a GUY! His name is Matt Slocum. And doing a cover doesnt make anyone a Lesbian anymore than me using thsi site makes me as stupid as a lot of you."

Wow. So apparently I'm stupid because I don't know who wrote this freaking song. Furthermore, apparently I'm stupid because the dip-flip lead singer of this band sang someone else's song (two of them, actually) and didn't bother to reverse gender in the lyrics.

There's nothing worse than a self-righteous pseudo-intellectual who hangs around on message boards and attacks others. I can only hope that you've matured in the intervening 2.5 years. Either that or shoved your head in an oven. Either outcome would be fine by me.

Neurosonic – So Many People Lyrics 17 years ago
"maybe joking of buying you
a set of bigger tits"

I believe this line is actually "Maybe Joe can buy you a set of bigger tits."

If I'm not mistaken, Joe Simpson is the father and manager of Ashlee and Jessica Simpson.

Kanye West – Diamonds from Sierra Leone Lyrics 18 years ago
The video is great, but the song has nothing to do with Sierra Leone. Like so many rappers, it seems he's just rapping about himself. Real deep there, man.

Ozzy Osbourne – Shot In The Dark Lyrics 19 years ago
slavemasta: That mentality is a stain on music. Who says that a song can't be literal? What makes you think that every songwriter in the world sits down to write a song and says "Okay, I'm writing this, but I really want it to mean something else".

Save the overextended metaphors for the only people it benefits: dipshit college students trying to get laid. Once you get past that pseudo-intellectual crap, you can learn to appreciate something as it is written.

Rammstein – Sonne Lyrics 19 years ago
I've never heard the English translated version of the song, but I don't think I'd want to: It's just such an awesome song in the original German. It's at once both haunting and kickass, two qualities that are hard to meld in any kind of music.

Mike And The Mechanics – Silent Running Lyrics 19 years ago
Honestly, though, its easy to get into "American Pie" mode when you start thinking about that, though. I've read a gazillion interpretations of the song "American Pie", and when you get finished saying "This line means this and this line means that", you've basically come up with something totally different from what is written.

Audioslave – Show Me How to Live Lyrics 19 years ago
The video to this song is spliced together scenes from "Vanishing Point"....a film I highly recommend. It's amazing how well this song fits the movie, both musically and lyrically.

Rob Zombie – Two-Lane Blacktop Lyrics 19 years ago
I'm pretty sure this song was inspired by the 1971 cult film "Two Lane Blacktop", which wouldn't be surprising, given Zombie's love for drive-in cinema. The lyrics of the song almost exactly mirror the movie.

For the record, the film was about two guys traveling the country in a hot-rodded '55 Chevy, picking up a girl along the way, and entering a cross-country race "for pinks" against an older man in a 1970 GTO. It was an interesting combination of an existentialist character study and a high-speed action film, and would be right up Rob's alley.

Gypsymoth: That's probably the right interpretation. I think it makes more sense than my own.

Pet Shop Boys – West End Girls Lyrics 19 years ago
I don't really know what this song is about, but for some reason it really freaks me out.

Sixpence None the Richer – Kiss Me Lyrics 20 years ago
Yeah, this song is about two girls kissing each other. Either that or the guy is bringing his flowered hat. 0_o

The same group also did a version of "There She Goes", and didn't change the lyrics to "he", so I'd venture to say the writer is a lesbian.

Judas Priest – Turbo Lover Lyrics 20 years ago
Racing cars as a metaphor for love, sex, or what not. Pretty straightforwrad. Cheesy but cool, and Halford is a pretty good singer, too.

Muzzy: Well, some would disagree with with the "nasty" comment. Gays themselves, for example.

Skaball: I've stayed up all night many a time, but I never recall the room spinning. :P

Shinedown – 45 Lyrics 20 years ago
Shane-92: That's also a good interpretation. "Staring down the barrel of a .45" could be metaphorical...maybe he feels as if he's taking his own life by becoming a father.

Ozzy Osbourne – Bark At The Moon Lyrics 20 years ago
It was inspired by one of Ozzy's old personal catchphrases, but the song itself is supposed tell the story of a werewolf. That's one thing I like about Ozzy, his songs are very literal without being simplistic.

submissions
Rob Zombie – Living Dead Girl Lyrics 20 years ago
I don't know exactly what this song is talking about, but Rob Zombie likes to include classic drive-in movie references in his songs, and this one has at least one (probably a few more, too):

Goldfoot machine
Creates another fiend
So Beautiful,
They make you kill

This is apparently a reference to "Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine", a 1965 sci-fi comedy starring Vincent Price, who plays a mad scientist who designs an army of robots made to look like beatiful women who seduce, then kill and steal from, rich men.

Rob Zombie – Dragula Lyrics 20 years ago
I'll go along with the last one...for those who don't know, the "Dragula" was the name of the gold coffin-hot rod that Grandpa Munster Drove.

Powerman 5000 – When Worlds Collide Lyrics 20 years ago
Powerman 5000 is a weird group for me...I hate every song by them the first time I hear it, then grow to love it after listening to it again, and this song is a perfect example. I guess Spider's vocals just take a little getting used to.

The best thing about them, IMO, is they know how to do intensity.

submissions
Kansas – Carry on Wayward Son Lyrics 20 years ago
The main reason I like this song is the amount of talent the group displays in it...they change tempos and key sigs countless times during this song, and every time pull it off without a hitch. That isn't easy.

Filter – Hey Man, Nice Shot Lyrics 20 years ago
Who wouldn't want to meet R. Budd Dwyer? I know I would...anyone with the balls to blow his own head off on national news in the heavily conservative 1980s would have to be an interesting character.

I've always been interested in the whole R. Budd Dwyer thing (it's been said he's the number 1 reason why "live" news casts have been using a seven second delay since the late '80s), even before I had ever heard this song. But the song is an interesting "tribute" to the guy.

Nine Inch Nails – Something I Can Never Have Lyrics 20 years ago
Everyone talks about how beautiful this song is...while it's no doubt a great song, to me it's more creepy than beautiful. Listening to it with the lights off scares the shit out of me. Not only the weird disjointed tune, but also the lyrics suggest that the constant pining is starting to drive the subject of the song insane. Powerful, yes, but more disturbing than emotional.

Neverthetheless, this is undoubtedly NIN's best song.

White Zombie – Black Sunshine Lyrics 20 years ago
Pretty straightforward: It's about a ride in a 400 horsepower Mustang and the feeling of power and speed that goes with it.

Mike And The Mechanics – Silent Running Lyrics 20 years ago
Apparently it's about a country being overrun in during a war. Honestly this is one of the most intriguing songs I've ever heard, lyrically.

Shinedown – 45 Lyrics 20 years ago
I don't think it's about abortion, per se, but I think it's about a guy who is depressed over fathering a child. He doesn't want to be a dead-beat, but he doesn't want to throw his life away on the kid, either. So he's contemplating shooting himself in the head. The "message to the unborn child" I guess are his departing words of wisdom to the kid, for when he's old enough to understand them.

Revis – Seven Lyrics 20 years ago
I think this is about a person who loves someone who dies, but wasn't on good terms with him/her at the time of death.

I'm probably way off base, but that's what I get out of it. Great song, anyway.

Frankie Goes to Hollywood – Relax Lyrics 21 years ago
Yes, it is slang for ejaculation, only it's supposed to be spelled "come".

submissions
Cake – The Distance Lyrics 21 years ago
I dunno, maybe it's because I've always hated symbolism (anything can be symbolic for anything, if you think about it), but I take a literal interpretation of this song. It's about a racing driver who has other things on his mind (a female), and driving is his only release, the only time when he can really get his mind off of her. Even after the race is over, he keeps driving because as soon as he stops, he'll start thinking of her again.

Cold – Just Got Wicked Lyrics 21 years ago
I think this is an "abridged" version of the song, since the real thing is a bit repetitive. Great song, though.

Frankie Goes to Hollywood – Relax Lyrics 21 years ago
EmoGuy: Regardless of what you read on porno websites, slang for ejaculation is supposed to be spelled "come". "Cum" is not a word in the English language. I'm kind of curious to know how that incorrect spelling got started. I've even seen it in the subtitles to foreign movies before.

Metallica – The Memory Remains (feat. Marianne Faithfull) Lyrics 21 years ago
Metallica fans tend to dislike this song, for some reason. I am quite fond of it, since seeing the video to this song is how I discovered Metallica. I've been hooked ever since.

To me, this song is about beauty and how it fades, and now no one, no matter how "important", is immortal. The lyrics bring to mind old sex symbols like Mae West....she was a major sex symbol in the 1930s and 1940s, but by the 1970s she was old, penniless, wrinkled and wearing a half-pound of make-up. She was the epitome of tacky attempts at agelessness, and she finally died in complete disgrace. The lyrics to this song bring an image like that into my mind.

Bryan Adams – Summer Of '69 Lyrics 21 years ago
The song takes place in 1969. It's not necessarily told from Bryan Adams personal experience. Remember, singers are storytellers.

Bryan Adams – Heaven Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is great....although some may dismiss late '80s-early '90s rock and pop as being "corny", I think artists like Bryan Adams and Richard Marx had a certain talent and sincerity that you just don't hear in this type of music anymore. It's really great stuff. BTW, I very strongly dislike the remake of this song, I feel that it was overdone.

Bryan Adams – (Everything I Do) I Do It for You Lyrics 21 years ago
A lot of Bryan Adams' fans dislike this song, because this marks his conversion from Rock to Adult Contemporary. They say he lost his edge as a result. However, I think Bryan Adams got much better with time, and this was musically one of his best moments. It's just a good song, no matter which way you disect it.

Chicago – 25 or 6 to 4 Lyrics 21 years ago
I hate to jump on the drug bandwagon (there's always some schmuck trying to tell you that any given song is about drugs, even if it's something like "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go"), but there are some parts of this song that remind me of drug usage..."Wondering how much I can take, should I try to do some more", and "Spinning room is sinking deep" all seem to be references to being stoned. Of course, that's pretty ambiguous, I realize, and that may very well not be the meaning of the song, I'm just saying that's what it reminds me of.

Metallica – Fuel Lyrics 21 years ago
The "white knuckles tight" guitar solo in this song is one of the best I've ever heard. That's also a great part of the great video: Two black, blown '67 Chevys (a Camaro and a Nova) racing down a twisting road at head-spinning speed. Fits perfectly.

This song is SO 1980s. Every time I hear it I weep a tear of nostalgia.

Staind – Outside Lyrics 21 years ago
The lead singer to Staind has to have one of the worst singing voices I have ever heard. I mean, this guy sounds HORRIBLE. His flat monotone is about as appealing as someone running long fingernails accross a chalkboard. Which is a shame, because apart from that they aren't a bad group. This would be a pretty good song, if they could just get someone else to sing it. As it is, I have to change the station every time it comes on the radio.
