Hot Chocolate – I Believe In Miracles Lyrics 19 years ago
uh.. this song is actually called "you sexy thing" if no one's noticed, which it's obvious that no one has.

The Cardigans – Carnival Lyrics 20 years ago
It sounds as if either:
a. the person is in love with someone who hasn't let their true feelings show concerning them or
b. two people are in a relationship and one is unwilling to express themselves to the other's expectations.

Bright Eyes – Happy Birthday to Me (Feb. 15) Lyrics 20 years ago
"all eyes on the calendar, another year i claim of total indifference" this was my anthem for last year. conor oberst, in my opinion is extremely underrated. it's sad that society hasn't managed to notice this gem like thousands of us have. he's a poet and a good one at that, who never fails to show raw emotion and tells it like it is. i know the majority of his work can be depressing, but at least he's not fabricating his work to please the masses.

Nerf Herder – Don't Hate Me (Because I'm Beautiful) Lyrics 20 years ago
This song is GREAT and it's true, people rarely despise others on small matters for anything other than bouts of jealousy.

N.E.R.D. – Things Are Getting Better Lyrics 20 years ago
"Don't look at me like what is up. Said I was a nerd, but I ain't a punk" <---- best line in the song, 'cause I said so.

N.E.R.D. – Provider Lyrics 20 years ago
madonna81, I'm so glad that someone's listened to Zero 7's mix of this song... tiz good. I don't mind the original version either, they're both awesome mixes in their own right. This song of N.E.R.D's pretty much explains itself... the things people do to get by in life... it's sad.

Moby – One Of These Mornings Lyrics 20 years ago
Four simple lines, yet so perfectly put.
To me the song is about someone who is in a relationship (either romantic or otherwise) that has its faults and it's almost as if this is what goes through this person's head everytime a fight occurs. Like, I'm not going to hang around forever if you continue to treat me in this manner.

Bright Eyes – The Calendar Hung Itself . . . Lyrics 21 years ago
This was the first Bright Eyes song I ever heard, and the song that got me onto Conor Oberst's amazing talent. I'd classify this as my second favourite song of all-time, next to Jeff Buckley's "Grace". I'd never heard anything like "The Calendar Hung Itself" before, and I guess that's why I hold it close.
After hearing this truly undescribable piece of music, I downloaded "Oh, you are the roots that sleep beneath my feet and hold the earth in place" and "Pull My Hair" and fell even deeper in love with Bright Eye's music.
I followed this all up with buying "Fevers and Mirrors", "Letting Off The Happiness" and Conor's split with Son, Ambulance "Oh Holy Fools". If you haven't bought any of these albumns, do so. They're well worth the cost.
I recently bought "Lifted or the story is the soil, keep your ear to the ground", which I find to be as equally as beautiful as anything else that Oberst has brought out, including his side-project Desaparecidos.
I know I'm rambling off here, but I just had to express my extreme devotion to one of the most perfect lyricists that the music industry has ever been blessed with.

Popnoir: I agree with 100%. This song puts me at peace.

Sleater-Kinney – One More Hour Lyrics 21 years ago
Bah! Why has NO ONE commented on this song? Is everyone blind, or have they just not come across this wonderful song yet?
Meh.
I don't exactly know what this song's about, but I'm willing to have a guess.
Seems to me that the act of infidelity are taking place, making through homosexual relationships. I wouldn't rule it out, considering the girls from Sleater-Kinney are all gay... not that there's anything wrong with that =D.

Cake – I Will Survive (Gloria Gaynor cover) Lyrics 21 years ago
I'm not a big fan of Gloria Gaynor's original version of this song, and refuse to listen to it at all costs (i must say its hard at karaoke bars though), but I really enjoy Cake's cover of the 70's hit.

Weezer – Velouria (Pixies cover) Lyrics 21 years ago
I'm with you OllieCow. Although I prefer the Pixies over Weezer (probably only due to the influence they had over so many other bands... if it weren't for them, where would music have turned?), but this cover is amazing.

Pixies – Velouria Lyrics 21 years ago
I'm going to have to go against you all (and the pixies, although i love them so), and go with Weezer's version of this song. I don't know why, I just seem to enjoy the cover more.

Pulp – Disco 2000 Lyrics 21 years ago
This was my favourite song of '96. Pulp deserves recognition, which they seem to lack a hell of a lot.

Pixies – Alec Eiffel Lyrics 21 years ago
I actually enjoy The Get Up Kids cover, but it can never be compared to the Pixies amazing version. Afterall, aren't originals the best? Methinks so.
The Pixies were definitely underrated, and I agree with you wickedsprout, I would also connect them to The Velvet Underground, with both bands going unnoticed, despite the influence they had on popular bands/artists to come.
I fell in love with the Pixies around 2 years ago, and it's funny that wickedsprout brought up the "Fight Club" link, 'cause that's how I was introduced to them.

Depeche Mode – Just Can't Get Enough Lyrics 21 years ago
I too love this song. One day I wrote "Just can't get enough" on my hand with permanent marker. Anytime anyone would ask me what I had written on my hand, I'd show them and start singing the song, while dancing. By the end of the day, everyone was sick of hearing this particular Depeche Mode song... and of course, I had many threats of being hit with a mallet due to my dancing routine.

April March – Chick Habit Lyrics 21 years ago
It sounds like something from the (possibly) 50's era, although fairly recent. Because of its "old-time" feel, I think it creates such a nostalgic feeling to the song.

The Aquabats – Lovers Of Loving Love Lyrics 21 years ago
I haven't seen the video clip, but when I heard this song, I broke out in fits of laughter.
It's such a feel-good song, that IS of course about love, but it doesn't have to be mushy to get its point across.
There should be more songs out there like this one, it makes you feel good.

Further Seems Forever – February Tide Lyrics 21 years ago
Ugh... I am such a f*cking idiot. For approximately a year and a half now I've been convinced that this was a FSF song. I own "The Moon Is Down", was aware of the fact that Carrabba USED to be a part of FSF, and then went onto Dashboard and just presumed that this was the new "lead singer". So much for that, huh? Geez... if only I'd been alerted sooner.
Actually, it all seemed to work out in the end. Without this song from Forever And A Day, I would never have known who FSF were. Maybe I should be thankful.

Lou Reed – Walk on the Wild Side Lyrics 21 years ago
roger_wilco's right. This song IS about all that went down with Warhol and his cronies. Mostly about transexuals, might I add.

David Bowie – Fame Lyrics 21 years ago
I don't mind this song, and although a Bowie fan, I must criticize one of Bowie's live versions of this song, if you could even call it that. It may have been the drugs, he may have just been distracted, but Bowie's performance on 'Soul Train', performing this song was appalling. If he's going to mime, at least be in time with the song, or know the words... he did this also with 'Golden Years'.

Taking Back Sunday – Bike Scene Lyrics 21 years ago
Many other users have described what this song means to them, so I thought I'd give it a go to. To me, "Bike Scene" always reminds me of when I split from my ex. I wanted to "hate" him, but couldn't, no matter how bad the break-up was, due to the lingering emotional attachment. I went back to him several times, foolishly, which coincides with the line "you've got me right where you want me", as he always had.

Pretty Girls Make Graves – If You Hate Your Friends, You're Not Alone Lyrics 21 years ago
I personally believe that this person was close to the singer. She never suspected that this so-called friend of hers would betray her, possibly through backstabbing out of pure jealousy. Such a great song to listen to when you're going through a hard time with a close "friend". And I use that term loosely.

Yellowcard – Big Apple Heartbreak Lyrics 21 years ago
"One night with me and I've broken your trust
I hate to be the bond you know is gonna bust
Hurting lungs from breathing sighs of disgust
This can't be home anymore."

When my ex cheated on me, these lines fit what he'd done, from his perspective. This song always manages to make me cry, due to my past.

Cursive – Art Is Hard Lyrics 21 years ago
Tim Kasher seems to be describing the act of "selling out". That to "boost your cd sales", you have to be someone that you're not, you have to conform to the ideals of everyone else. You're no longer putting out albumns full of emotion that you personally feel, you're putting forth an albumn that will only please the public. In other words, Kasher's criticising artists who make music for money, instead of because they love it.
