Adding to PsicoFreak667, Kenneth Anger was widely known for being really into the supernatural/Aleister Crowley/Church of Satan, and one of his most famous films was called Scorpio Rising (he made another called Lucifer Rising which I think he worked with Jimmy Page on, who was also really into Crowley).
Anger's also well known for writing "Hollywood Babylon," which was about Hollywood scandal & corruption and was really well known in his films for poking fun at popular culture with tons of camp. But I'm guessing the Anger reference probably has more to do with Scorpio/Lucifer Rising. |

Has anyone else noticed a relatively good amount of songs, especially from around '85 to '95 [so it'd make sense], where "apple" could easily be replaced with "heroin"? Does anyone know anything about that?
I was looking on the songmeanings page for "Rotten Apple" by Alice in Chains and the biblical reference of "apple" with the loss of innocence was brought up - that would make sense in the context of heroin maybe, too. |

the way i interpeted it the first time i read the lyrics [while listening to the song and holding back tears] was that it was about a breakup with a girl he worshipped, pretty much, and the "that was just a dream" is about things working out between them ... and the "that's me in the corner/that's me in the spotlight" is about mixed signals ... "losing my religion" being a southern phrase throws out the worshipping the girl therefore "losing my religion", but i still believe it's about a breakup. the being obsessed with a girl he wants but isn't and was never together with works, too, and i like the homosexuality theory. heh.
and marla, not that many people like o-town and britney spears if they're over the age of 12. |

this is my favorite harvey danger song, too ... i think no one's commented on it because most of us have been here and it's pretty self explanatory to everyone. "i'm so happy, how do you write about that?"
and "call me freaky, call me childish, call me ishmael, just call me back" is pure genius.
i love this entire cd, actually, but particurally this song. |

i relate a lot to this song, and i think a lot of people do... i've been in a couple of relationships that just died and we never talked anymore and i wondered whether they still wanted me or even considered themselves still with me.
i actually didn't notice all the repitition until i'd heard the song a few times. i'm not sure why the tune goes with the theme of the song so well but it does... hides the repitition of the lyrics, even. |
