This song reminds me a lot of an Eagles song from Hell Freezes Over that, ironically, actually has the same name. a great line from that song "I'd like to find your inner child and kick its little ass" I heard the interview about OKgo wanting to write this song just so "it would rock", but there has to be something extra to it. Otherwise, they'd be smart to repeat a lot of mindless cliches that didn't fit together but sounded okay...basically, they'd sound like everyone else on TRL. This song has a little more. Yeah, it's catchy as hell, but it makes sense. In a lot of ways, we've become a society of victims. There's always someone to sue or a talk show to bitch on, or Eminem to blame...and if that doesn't work, there's always the president. This song is about those little ills that build up in our mind until we lower our moral guard. We turn into sharks, with a fourdoor and a faithless wife, and an ex and a room for a night. We keep up the appearance that we're happy and life's okay, but until we honestly appreciate the little things, we'll live shallow, self absorbed lives. We'll hurt everybody in our way till we get what we want, and when we're caught, we'll point the figure. It's like they say..."the millionaire calls himself a self-made man, but when he's arrested for abuse, he'll say it's because of his violent childhood." You cant have it both ways. Lastly, "Love that perfect frown, honest eyes... We ought to buy you a Cadillac. " is one of the funniest lines I've heard in a song all year. Priceless. |

"i blame myself for being too much like somebody else...i never thought i would just bend this way" what do you think this means? I think these lyrics are interesting. We could pretty much infer that being too much like somebody else would mean being stubborn like his father, and choosing to fight instead of love. But bending is an interesting word to use in a song where being stubborn is his sin? Do you think that, in a way, he hates giving in, because it's so hard to forget the past? What I got from it was that before that phone call, he was intent on being stubborn. On not breaking. On making his father be the "weak one". But when he gets that call, he realizes that "bending" which he thought was so weak, is the only thing he can do, unless he wants his father to pass on without ever getting to say the words he longs to say. That giving in to love is worth it, everytime... |

What a great song I think it's funny that any time I've ever done drugs with people, there's this whole attitude of being better than the rest of the world, feeling more, being truer. She mentions this when she says "we're so creative, so much more" and talks about non users being on the other side. She's just kidding herself, though. She knows that no matter how high they are, they're on the floor. She's not doing shit with her life but getting high, she's imprisoned by herself and her own need. What a sad song. The lines with the layered voices "It's not a habit, it's cool, i feel alive" almost sound like the voices of those she uses, trying to keep her there with them. Or the voices in her head, trying to deny the truth. |

I love you all--you're all so cool She just sounds so hurt, but at the same time like she's going to tell you to leave or she's going to MAKE you leave I also love her voice when she sings "i do know what's good for me", she sounds so petulant and pissed off. man, why am i dissecting. this whole song is incredible. |

One of the saddest songs recorded lately, in my opinion I think that this girl wants to be saved. Personally, we know Fiona has suffered through a lot in her life, young as she is. She feels like she's in hell, lower than the doves and stars that she can see in the sky, kind of an Oscar Wilde reference (We are all in a gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars). She is looking at the stars, and praying for someone to make her okay. She thinks he is this dove sent down to whisk her away but in the end..he is just a paper bag. Ordinary, cheap, and they don't fly for long, This song, to me, is just as much about reconciling with herself as with any man. She is giving up--she cannot love and be let down anymore, she cannot be turned away for having too many problems once again. She talks about cards--and references the chance she takes every time she tries to love, and maybe implies that being loved is just a game that she cannot play right. She feels too much, her poker face gives away to sadness. What do you think? I'd like to hear an opinion (i.e. someone telling me I'm full of shit. Oy, it's late) An amazing song. I think this is a song about a man who won't grow up, a man who wants all the wrong things. He's immersed himself in the materialistic, quick pleasures of life. The expense of this is that no one can get too close. Like so many young men, he clings to the idea of freedom, afraid of giving his independence to someone who could abuse him. Afraid to open his heart to the possibility of breaking. God, I love this song. While Clint Black (?) mastered this song on Common Thread, it could never measure up to the original. Henley is in a class of his own. You can't have-a de mango! |

Has anybody ever heard the remix of this song? A DJ put a very simple beat to it and a few spins...and while it's different, I think you appreciate the original by hearing this version more. It's beautiful. Under Kazaa or DC, it's listed as Trouble (Big Beat Remix). If a DJ can put his own mark on a tune while still respecting the integrity of the song...you've gotta love it.
