this song has the worst, silliest lyrics to music ratio in music history i think. it is impossible to take this song seriously unless you are completely musically illiterate. hilarious! |

P.O.D. – Abortion Is Murder Lyrics

by the way, this song sure is complex isn't it? if they're weren't an "intro" then the whole song would pretty much just be repeating the chorus over and over again. Obviously POD is not too good with the whole subtlety thing, maybe they could try some metaphors next time they need to make a political statement? Y'know, like real poets do? |

P.O.D. – Abortion Is Murder Lyrics
|
kill - to cause the death of; slay
murder - to kill unlawfully and with malice
it seems the main difference between the words "kill" and "murder" is that murder must be against the law. Well how about that! abortion is not against the law, so it isn't murder! That was an easier solution than I thought it would be! I can't believe no one ever tried to look up those words in a dictionary before!

my biggest problem with this song and others like it is that in three months after it comes out everyone is listening to something else and its like the song that was so popular a few weeks ago never existed. if the song is so great then why do people get sick of it so quickly? |

hey ThestrokesLuVeR,
Why are you asking someone else if its ok to like certain bands? You can like whatever the hell you want, why should you let these idiots affect your musical tastes? And anybody who really cares if your a "poser ora wannabe" isn't worth proving yourself to anyway. Listen to what you like and fuck what other people think.
By the way, these guys aren't even popular anymore are they? So why is this debate still going on? The only reason I'm here is because I was going through my posts. Get on to arguing about newer meaningless crap. |

Maroon 5 – This Love Lyrics

to qhen-etc.,
AHA!
It seems to me you are blinded by your PERSONAL CONNECTION to the LYRICS of this song, and that is why you defend it so fervently. First of all I do not appreciate your assumption that those of us who dislike this song are somehow "inable to appreciate diverse genres of musical style and lyrics;" I certainly cannot speak for the two people you mentioned in your previous post, but I for one have a spectacularly diverse musical taste, my collection crosses most genres. The fact that I do not like this song has nothing to do with the fact that it is "pop" or that it dosen't "rock," my dislike for this song sprouts from a much more reasonable explanation; the song just isn't very good.
As far as lyrics are concerned, I find that the lyrics of a song are the least important part of the recording, and therefore, could care less about the lyrical content. It is my opinion that modern music relies too much on the lyrical portion of song, making it the highlight of the recording. This has led to a generation of listeners think much the same, and I have come to know many people who cannot listen to instrumental music because "it bores them." Lyrics should be more about the shape of the words being sung and how they fit into the song, rather than being the deciding factor as to whether one likes a song or not.
Also, Pink Floyd has become commercial to a degree, but that is because of thirty plus years of consistently high quality music and production; I would like to see Maroon 5 even retain its fanbase, let alone grow its fan base, after they have stopped performing for ten years.
"If you can find me any music that is not manufactured and conjured through magic or witchcraft I would be greatly amazed" Ok I don't know what the hell your talking about here. What do magic and witchcraft have to do with music? Other than the occasional claim of the Rolling Stones selling their souls to the devil for success, and the legend of Robert Johnson, I see no evidence of sorcery of any kind being involved with the production of music at all.
Finally, I challenge anyone to give me one example of Maroon 5 rocking. Just one. I have yet to find it. |

Rob Thomas – Lonely No More Lyrics

this song reminds me of an acute pain in the eardrum that I experience every time I happen to hear the first few notes of it before I change the station, much like the pain I feel when people attack an artist for doing anything that deviates even remotely from the established formula that you people extract joy from. Let him do whatever the fuck he wants and if you don't like then don't listen like I do, and stop complaining about him selling out just because you don't want your perfect little image of matchbox twenty to be sullied by what is surely an experiment from someone who clearly did not want to pump out an album of matchbox twenty music and sell it as a solo album.
Kudos Rob Thomas, I hate practically all of your music, but I do applaud your decision to change gears, even if you fail spectacularly at it. |

Coldplay – Fix You Lyrics

sure, this song is pretty, but Coldplay seem to be running out of ideas if you ask me. This song follows a structure very similar to others on this and the previous album, with a soft start that adds instrumentation as the verses are played out, culminating in a rousing instrumental break followed by a reduction to the instrumentation that was used to open the piece. The only difference here is the addition of the organ-like notes in the beginning. Also they need to find something to write about other than their relationship problems, every song ends up being about the same thing. Nevertheless it is pretty, and as long as they keep making pretty music they will continue to be popular, and I will probably keep buying the albums regardless of my gripes. |

Blue Öyster Cult – Don't Fear The Reaper Lyrics

Though I disagree that the song is about suicide, I think that Kurd is correct in stating that the song can mean different things to different people. Though the songwriter can tell you what it means to him, he cannot dictate the opinions of anyone else, and when a song is as disputable as this one is, both theories are valid. |

Maroon 5 – This Love Lyrics

1. this song is strictly pop, designed to appeal to a mass audience
2. if this song were any longer chances are they would just repeat the chorus 8 more times, and that part is in there too often already
3. the album is called 'Songs About Jane' so I'm pretty sure that this song is ABOUT JANE, meaning that is means the same thing that all of their other songs mean
4. I may not like the song or the band, but I can still comment on here if I feel I have something worthwhile to say |

Maroon 5 – Harder To Breathe Lyrics

to zacster: I agree with you that fans of Matchbox 20 will also like Maroon 5; my girlfriend is an example, but I don't understand why this is. Matchbox 20 is by no means my favorite band, but I respect their songwriting skills, mixing alternative with hard rock, grunge, and even country. Maroon 5, however, seems to be a replacement for the now-defunct boy band craze, as can be evidenced by that dude who thought this song was sung by a girl. My girlfriend thought this song was the Backstreet Boys new single when she first heard it.
to ThinkingOfTheSummer: that's kind of funny, because this is the one song I kinda sorta maybe like a little that I've heard from Maroon 5, mainly because it has a defining bass line throughout and its kinda funky because of that. So I think it's funny that the band only recorded this one because the record company told them to, not that they thought they needed some sort of musical depth to their sound. Funny indeed! |

Maroon 5 – She Will Be Loved Lyrics

There is a reason why these guys didn't become popular until just recently: until just recently, boy bands were all the rage. Once the Backstreet Boy's and N'sync's of the world started to fall apart teenage girls needed another group with sappy lyrics and uninspired melodies to swoon over. I must say that at least these guys play instruments and write their own songs, but if any of you try to tell me that Maroon 5 "rocks" I will feel very sad for you and your perception of rock music. |

HIM – Join Me In Death Lyrics
|
There are a few points I think I should make here.
1. HIM is not a satanist band. As previously stated, the name 'His Infernal Majesty' was meant as a joke. Unfortunately, coming from Scandinavia does not help them live down this rumour.
2. The fact that the singer wears makeup and women's clothing in no way effects the sound of the music, or the music composition. Some of the greatest artists in rock history wore makeup, David Bowie and Iggy Pop being two good examples.
And now the negative.
3. I have a feeling that this band is just using the gimmicks mentioned above to sell records. They seem to aim at the depressed, alienated teenage girl demographic; which we all know continues to grow in the United States, and around the world. Every part of their image; the way they dress, the lyrical content, the flirtation with Satanism through the use of phrases that are commonly associated with Satanism (666, Latin song titles, etc.), is designed specifically to appeal to a certain demographic.
4. The lyrical content is unecessarily blunt. This song is a perfect example of HIM's typical lyrical content; we're in love, and life sucks, so let's kill ourselves. This is not the message we need to be sending to people who are on the verge of contemplating suicide.
5. In my opinion, the music is nothing more than generic goth metal. Just my opinion there, but I would rather listen to something more thematically satisfying. I do like their cover of '(Don't Fear) The Reaper", but only because I like the original. HIM transformed it into a suicide anthem, in my view. |

you people seem to be forgetting about Fuse, which plays almost nothing but music videos, mostly nu-metal, alternative (like this), and punk. I first saw the video for this and the video for MM's Float On there. They were airing it before MTV or VH1 were. If you watch enough, you might even see a video from a band as obscure as the Mars Volta on Fuse. |

Actually, this song is part of a concept album written by BOC that was released in the 80's called "Imaginos". I'm not sure why they decided to put just this song on the "Secret Treaties" album and leave of the rest of the connected story. |

Good Charlotte – Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous Lyrics

Well said, fuckyouall, you could take any genre of music and find good and bad examples, but when something is bad it dosen't matter what people classify it as. Good Charlotte may be punk or maybe it isn't, i could care less because regardless of the style you want to call it, the music itself is nothing more than mediocre, radio-friendly ruckus tailor-made to appeal to the MTV audience. When this generica is topping the charts, its no wonder there are few creative new bands; kids keep listening to this crap that is neither original nor will it be positively influencial on the next generation of popular music. |

I thought it was a practical joke to offset the seriousness of the rest of the album. It's like waiting for someone to finish explaning something they are passionate about and then pointing out a mistake that makes the whole thing impossible. |
