seeing "star lit" up there (it's starlet, as in a woman in training to be a star) makes me think that "lit" is describing "star" .. You know, like Anna Nicole Smith.
"A Dead star, lit, on her pedestal" like how young girls are looking up to all these addicted stars.
I mean, it's Starlet, but I just thought that was an interesting idea.

I'm surprised no one brought up the environmental issues. As you all know, Dave is big on the environment (that sewage lawsuit was a shame. :( ) and the line "God' grace lost, and the devil is proud" represents cutting down forests for subdivisons and drilling in the ANWR, etc.

Well, this song is obviously very deep. It seems rather adroitly obvious that the boys suffered a "puppy trauma" at a young age. I'm not sure of what nature; maybe they were attacked, maybe the puppies were drowned, I'm just not sure. But it's clear that it was a puppy-related incident. And as a result: this song. So, whatever the trauma, thank God for it, eh?! |

the simplicity of the lyrics is what makes this song so beautiful. Whenever I feel really desolate and like I'm going to give up, I put this song on, and it makes me feel better. And, although he sounds a little like a sheep, I love the raw vocals. :) In my eyes, Conor can do no wrong, I guess. |

from the lines "+ i'm glad you got away, but i'm still stuck out here. My clothes are soaking wet from your brother's tears" I got the impression that this was about someone (Maybe- with the whole being ashamed about women's clothes deal, someone who was gay) who killed themselves.
