| I think that (how's that for an original start to a post?) this song can really mean anything it wants to anyone who wants it to..Sure the songwriter perhaps had a certain theme in mind when they wrote it, but thats the beauty of songs, and writing in general. It can be so widely interpreted and touch different people in different ways. Heroin, loss, friendship, whichever. Also, Elliott Smith is one of those incredible artists whom are able to convey such intense emotions in their singing that just listening to the song can move you to tears, especially for me since that is somewhat of a rarity seeing as how I'm more visual-arts oriented. But anywho, enough blab. Elliott Smith is awesome and thats all there is to it =) | |

I think this song is about being deceived, but a self deception or denial rather than one inflicted by others. Its as if everyone else can see that this person is poison; and yet, you refuse to see it and convince yourself eventually this person will accept you and love you, whereas its all a dream. Candy is just something in a pretty wrapper that is unhealthy for you in the end. Well, I suppose that was all somewhat obvious, but I just felt like blabbing at 1 in the morning.
