Straylight Run – This Is The End Lyrics 15 years ago
@poncho
I agree: the chorus lyrics don't really make...you know, sense. Just a bunch of fragments...can anybody convincingly put it together? I do, however, love when the rounds start.

this song, musically, reminds a lot of early Sloan.

The Good Life – The New Denial Lyrics 16 years ago
Obviously, this is a song about divorce.

I'm wondering if anybody feels like me in thinking that the narrator knows, quite well, that his anniversary was last Tuesday, and he's putting up some facade and pretending like he forgot. The title, to me, sounds a lot like that and especially the last two lines and the line "cheers to the new denial".

The Beatles – Yellow Submarine Lyrics 17 years ago
Oh, come on guys! This song is hilarious! Whenever I listen to this song intently, it always make me at least chuckle, if not laugh aloud. I mean, a yellow submarine? Why not!?

And I think it's a pretty good song, too. I like the melody, and it's a blast to sing along with.

Elliott Smith – No Name #5 Lyrics 17 years ago
"Hi. I like Elliott Smith but not Weezer. You like both. That makes me better than you." It's a great attitude. Thanks for making the world a better place.

Also, that's definitely a cheesy line. You can argue all you want, but if someone other than Elliott wrote it, you know you'd be all over them.

Ben Folds – Still Fighting It Lyrics 19 years ago
I think references to "being a bird" and "flying away" are metaphors for being an adult. He know that someday, his son is going to fly away, and be his own bird (it sounds retarded when I say it like that.) I think ubermunchie's nest comment is terribly pertinent.

Wow. I didn't know that. That's so cool.

Cursive – The Dirt of the Vineyard Lyrics 20 years ago
Sangria is an alcoholic drink. When he says that the Sangria is burning under his skin, he probably means that he is drunk. This, apparently, is something they all like to do a lot.

The Good Life – Drinking with the Girls Lyrics 20 years ago
Everytime Tim writes anthing about songwriting, people think it's about Connor. It makes me wonder. Like, what? Tim's not also a song writer? Is he not also self-deprecating and such? Or do people just gravitate towards Connor that much? I don't now. I'm a bigger Tim fan, myself.

The Good Life – A Golden Exit Lyrics 20 years ago
This is definitely one of my favorite songs. I can't think of any other songs that use Winter as a metaphor for loneliness and other such depressing things, but I know there's a few of them out there. I think it's interesting.

The Good Life – Your Birthday Present Lyrics 20 years ago
Corrections: "...cry when winter's hands, stole you..." and "...nothing but a hole, you...". Anyways, I think this song is definitely related to maternity and birth (swallowed out into the light, didn't want to cut the cord, etc..). I'm not exactly sure who's perspective it's sung from, but a lot of seems like it's sung by a mother to her child. The last four lines seem like the opposite, perhaps.

Cursive – The Martyr Lyrics 21 years ago
well, I'm about to be mean and sarcastic.

Yeah, maybe if Conor were a "she". And Conor kissed his weeping eyes. And maybe if tears ever rolled off his nipple.

Although, I really shouldn't be so critical.

tim is so much cooler. i vote tim. although, I haven't heard Desparecidos, but I think I'll still like the Good Life and Cursive far better.

Cursive – The Casualty Lyrics 21 years ago
kris_xxx, you said a lyric is repeated in every Domestica track. What are they? The only ones I know of are between the casualty and the night I lost the will to fight (the night has fallen down the staircase) and the casualty and the lament of pretty baby (the moon has raped me).

I love this song. It's one of my favorites. I was just wondering if there was any specific story or anything that this song is about? It seems like it's about a boat crash, but any boat crash in particular?

Further Seems Forever – Snowbirds And Townies Lyrics 21 years ago
I think people need to learn that not everything said in a song is literal. I don't claim to be the end-all of song interpretation, but I don't think the girl died. Just because he says "I know that you're never leaving" doesn't necessarily mean she's not leaving. There are possibilities. He could be pointing out his own naivety, or hoping that she doesn't leave (which I guess would be the same thing, in a way). Either way, things don't have to be taken on a literal level. People don't always talk on a literal level, and that's the beauty of language; you can hide so much meaning in the things you say.

Oh yeah, and I think this is a great song. I would say that FSF does have a way with words, to a point, but a lot of other people do it a lot better. In my opinion, at least.

Cursive – The Martyr Lyrics 21 years ago
I think that there are more martyr's in the world than just Jesus, and Tim is making himself out to be one. Although, in most people's view Jesus is one of the most important martyr's ever, if not the most important one. And so, and references to Jesus can only make the Martyr connections stronger and clearer
