This song reminds me of my last relationship. Neither of us represented ourselves correctly and had a horrible relationship because we didn't get to know each other at all. Generally, in the beginning, people aren't completely themselves, but sometimes it's much worse and the person is the exact opposite of what you thought they were. The lines that struck me most were: "Don't come over later, don't spend three days in a row I know my pre-calculated charm will soon run low. " and "I'd hoped for a different you." |

"The dinner was perfect until she opened her mouth." this part is so perfect for so many reasons. while this probably isn't how they meant it, to me it symbolizes how people discredit what women say. a girl is beautiful until she starts speaking her mind. to go along with the song though, i'm sure it has a completely different meaning. |

at first i hated this song. then i was listening to it in my car and really listened to the lyrics for the first time. it's probably my favorite song on the cd at this point. and i really hope this isn't a typical hanson relationship song. i interpret it to be about being in a deep depression and not being able to get out. "Why don't you come on down so you can feel what I feel." - people don't understand how it feels unless they're there. "Sitting all alone in this place, even though we're here face to face." - whe you're depressed you tend to always feel alone. "There is nothing gone but there's something wrong/missing." - most powerful line of all i think. when you're depressed there isn't always a reason you feel that way. you feel like things are good in your life, you have what you need and get what you want on occassion, but nothing makes you happy. "Is there resolution for this pain that I'm in?" - the pain never ends. "Can't you see that I'm stuck here underneath." - and the obvious, i'm stuck in this deep depression. this shows their true song writing ability that they waste on love songs. |

yeah, to whoever called these lyrics "juvenile," is obviously a moron. sorry, but this is one of the few songs on the new cd where the subject isn't love and actually has a deeper meaning. maybe you're just a little too "juvenile" to understand symbolism. the new cd is good musically, but with the exception of this song and underneath, the lyrics are tragically mediocre. "this time around" was a step in the right direction. they started to write less about love and more about life. then we get this cd which is 90% love songs. i feel like these guys have so much potential. the music is right, the songwriting skill is there, they just don't use it. i wish they'd stop playing it safe with the love songs and write about real experiences more often. taylor's married with a kid for christ's sake, time for some new subject matter.
