Further Seems Forever – Insincerity As An Artform Lyrics 16 years ago
Man, post the lyrics from the sleeve... If you change 'unstitch' to 'stitch' it completely changes the meaning...

Chevelle – Dos Lyrics 16 years ago
I had also heard the one about the empty gig... I'm 99% certain that's what they wrote it about... On a side note, this is definitely my favorite Chevelle song.

By the way, yes, there is a book called Romans. Try looking inside the Bible once.

Just a point, every song on No Name Face has Christian meaning, look for them, they aren't hard to find at all. Try starting with the song "Everything."

Further Seems Forever – The Moon Is Down Lyrics 16 years ago
As I've said before, I agree. The fact that they're Christian isn't important at all, nor does it add or take away from their amazing musical ability. The only reason it was brought up at all is because the intent of this site is to discuss our opinions on the meanings of our favorite songs, and FSF's Christian ideals happened to be a large part of my interp. on this one.

illusionofsafety: Yes, Avril is not punk, but your concept of 'punk' is so completely skewed.... go back into the real roots of punk for your research and then MAYBE you'll get the right idea. Oh, and on a side note, Bad Religion sucks.

Eh, I like it personally. But as they say: "To each his own."

I'm not offended. And I'm not even saying that all of FSF's songs are Christian references, I personally don't think they are. I was just saying that they are, and trying to use that to back up my opinion on this paticular song. Unrelated but still a good lesson: To be a Christian band does not mean that every song says "Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me!" Like any other musician, they face many issues and are often inclined to write on those. I know many Christian artists who have songs without even the slightest allusions to God. So I could be wrong and The Moon Is Down could have nothing to do with the subject. I still read into it as stated however.

Clothing goes on the outside.
Music comes from the inside.
The two are utterly unrelated, dispite what the media driven generation would like you to believe. Wake up childen, think for yourself. Judge music with your ears, and let your eyes have a rest for once, I'm sure they do enough judging anyway.

Dashboard Confessional – The Good Fight Lyrics 17 years ago
Thank you Emo ezralite. Yes, a capital letter does commonly signify at least one of the members of the Trinity. Thus the difference between meantioning a greek god (inproper noun) and God (proper noun). Another good indication that this song may have Christian based meaning is that Chris himself is Christian, and was in a Christian band before DC, Further Seems Forever. However, if you don't get that meaning out of the song, that's fine. Music is about taking out what you feel is right. But just look at the lyrics again and consider it.

Burglar and scrap have it right, it's not the image that matters anyway. It's all about the music. Music itself is art. If we take personalities into the equation, we must compensate by taking some of the art out. So just sit back and enjoy, and don't worry about whether she's real, or fake, or any other minute detail...

Ummmmm.... Interesting take, and it's fine if you see it that way, but the actual intent has been stated.

What defines a person as "punk?" Would she not be fitting into the stereotype more if she did sing so-called punk? The fact that she openly sings non-punk music only affirms that she is likely as she comes off. If it was an act, she would be singing what she appears as.

*Shakes head* Personally, I don't care whether their music is Christian or not, as long as it's quality. I'm not looking for "something to grab onto." However, they DO proclaim to be a Christian band themselves, and that was my entire point.

They are a proclaimed Christian band, and their songs (though not all of them) do relate heavily. However, Chris is a master of the metaphor, allowing his a hidden touch to his music.

I like them, but their genre isn't totally new... While they're taking it to a completely new level, it's just a spin off of rapcore. Still good though, I just wish they'll line up his speech at least slightly with the music... But again, it's good regardless. As they continue to grow musically, they have the potential to be one of the greatest bands of our time.

In short (I don't feel like giving a full analysis right now), this song is about Chris's feelings of God, and God's feelings of Chris in return. Chris is both saying how God give him strength, and how he's going to keep spreading God's word, and drawing people to his side; "This is ours, ours, ours, this one is ours!" And as I've mentioned of other bands, FSF is a CHRISTIAN band, full of constant God metaphors. They thank God first and foremost on their album, and are part of Tooth And Nail Records, a Christian record company.

Madhippo, I'm not at all offended. I pretty much don't get offended by things like that. To be honest, I used to be the most anti-Christian, Religion-hating person anyone around here knew. That (obviously) all changed. However, if you serious are curious to the answers to your questions, I'd love to answer them (and I won't be trying to 'convert' you in doing so, just answering), but I'd prefer not to do it over the messages here, as it doesn't pertain to the song. Feel free to email me at kandar1184@aol.com though, and I'll answer anything you want to know, to the best of my ability.

Unless what you've stated above is what Chris himself said, I don't think that's right at all... First off, remember that Chris is a Christian (also founding member of Futher Seems Forever, a Christian group), and then see that this song is about our world turning away from Christ, our Champion. Chris is pleading with you not to follow the path of the world ("I begged you not to go. I begged you, I pleaded."), and to stay waiting for your champion (Christ)... I could be wrong, and I'm not saying at all that this is definate, but upon reading the lyrics that meaning stood out SO brightly...

The Juliana Theory – If I Told You This Was Killing Me, Would You Stop? Lyrics 17 years ago
I originally thought it was about somebody else, but looking back, it makes so much more sense for it to be about himself, even down to the title... Now the question is asked of whether he can stop being that part of himself that he so dislikes...

The Juliana Theory – The Closest Thing Lyrics 17 years ago
I don't think it's really about a celebrity at all... If you listen to other Juliana Theory songs, they use well placed methaphors to help explain situations that don't come across as easily without them. In this case I think the whole 'hollywood' thing is simply a representation of what he sees as her perfect life. That also explains the line about crying on his shoulder... It's both saying he'd love to be so close to her that she confided in him, but also that he's love to see that she isn't without trouble, and is human after-all...

Lifehouse – Sick Cycle Carousel Lyrics 17 years ago
I don't mean to be rude guys, but the song's meaning (as proclaimed by their lead singer/songwriter) is completely different than what you guys seem to be getting out of it... This song is another Christian based song (as all are, though the singer encourages his listeners to take whatever out of it they feel led to), this one about sin. The carousel that he cannot get off of is the continued trap of sin, and the final realization that he can be saved by grace alone, and can't do it on his own... The most prominent point to that effect is the line "I've tried to earn my way..." Look back at the lyrics and see if this doesn't fit. And remember, the writer himself proclaimed it.
