The Fiery Furnaces – Teach Me Sweetheart Lyrics

I love this song so much. I think it's a simple Cinderella story. Pretty girl v wicked step-family. It's written so well though. I love the animal similes for each step-member. |

Mad Capsule Markets – Xxx Can Of This Lyrics

It's about cannabis. The XXX and changing the word to "can of this" is a sly wink to the censorship problems they used to face early in their career.
Two years later and still a MCM fan! I remember making that post from a computer lab in London :) Good memories. |

Hot Snakes – Let It Come Lyrics

Someone smarter than me, figure out this song! The show-me-state is Missouri - "Buy Cheap / Sell Dear" is an old econimics saying - Cadman Plaza East 225 is a Brooklyn courhouse... I know a lot of the songs on the album are about socialism.. how does this one all come together? |

Beck – Devil's Haircut Lyrics

I'm not saying the two share the same meaning definitely, but I always think about "Taxi Driver" when I hear this song. The lyrics sound like describing an awful and dangerous place to live. And I think of Bickle's mohawk, haha. Then he gets all crazy at the end... |

"They never play the ones people's never heard of before" duh, no shit. Why do you want to hear stuff you've never heard before when there are two albums worth of familiar music at their disposal? |

Home Grown – Wanna-Be Lyrics

The very monent you started referring to stragers as bitches on the net lets me know you're still in high-school. Trust me, it's a meaningless thing to get wount up about (which the songwriter quite obviously does). Just like talking trash on the internet... |

No Use For A Name – Not Your Savior Lyrics

|
GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL
GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!
The song is about how people hold up songwriters and people in bands as role models. Songs can make you feel better, nostalgic, and articulate what you are thinking; but you shouldn't worship bands. There are more important people out there... |

Pay to have a (.......?)

Five Iron Frenzy – On Distant Shores Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
I first listened to this album on a long car ride alone knowing nothing about the songs, like not reading the lyrics or anything. Only knowing it was the final album. And when Every New Day kicked in totally catching me off guard, a chill went right through my body. I nearly had to pull the car over. An amazing way to end a band. |

I can't listen to this song, it''s just too sad. Leanor is a great songwriter, in this one, a little too good. |

Bloodhound Gang – Uhn Tiss Uhn Tiss Uhn Tiss Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
On the website, they admit this is just "The Bad Touch: Part Duex" and as long as they come out and say it, it makes this song much more enjoyable. I used to make fun of "uhn-tiss" style songs all the time, so this brings back memories. |

Bloodhound Gang – I Hope You Die Lyrics

The great thing is this song is directed at no one in particular. (on the website, Jimmy said it was about Mother Teresa) It's just BHG being as offensive as possible for no reason at all. Also, you gotta love Parry Gripp from Nerf Herder helping out on the vocals. |

2D is a hardcore zombie fan. Day of The Dead in M1A1, Dawn in Last Living Souls... Also, if you go to the Gorillaz website and check out 2D's computer in his room, it's all zombied out. Day of The Dead screensaver, and links to George A. Romero and Lucio Fulci websites. |

Reel Big Fish – The Set Up (You Need This...) Lyrics

musically... best RBF song ever! I love it. But i'm lyrically, really vauge. I think thats the point though since one of the many faces of RBF is rock n roll satire, and all the best rock songs are quite vauge. Anyway, my take on it (from the verses) is that he is saying he is a total jerk, and people only like him because he's in a cool band. |

Reel Big Fish – Valerie Lyrics

When i saw this band live in 2003, they played this tune and replaced "Valerie" with "Starting Line" (the band who opened). Nothing beats a band and a 100 people all screaming "STARTING LINE... YOUMAKEMEWISHIWASDEAAAAAD!" |

Reel Big Fish – Thank You For Not Moshing Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
The second verse is about people who go to shows just to slamdance and mosh, forgetting the real show up on stage. People who think this is the best way to get attention and really be someone; by thrashing around in a crowded area like a 6 year old. In other words, he's saying moshers have no grasp on reality. |

If this song didn't have this title would we still think it's about sex. Looks like there is more to it. A song about songwriting, creating things? I don't know. |

another song about insecurity and masking your true feelings. He sings about what keeps him from this girl who obviously rejects him. So he runs from the problem by getting drunk and getting back at her in his own mind with not-so-well-wishes. |

Hot Hot Heat – Oh, Goddamnit Lyrics
|
The character in this song is talking about how a night of bar hopping and failure after failure with each girl he talks to has left him frustrated, dizzy, broke, and angry. I love how HHH's music is so blatantly sexy, yet, just about every song on "Make Up..." is about insecurity and social disaster. The nonsensical jammering of the lyrics and stuttering delivery also help drive the theme of the song home. |

The Mars Volta – Miranda, That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore Lyrics

Actually Cedric and Omar said they recorded sober. And that still doesn't take away anything from what I said. This band isn't just your stupid jam band you use as an excuse to get high and talk about it later thinking you're so awesome the whole time, it's art. Go watch Super Troopers if you're gonna do that stupid shit, or grow up. |

The Mars Volta – Miranda, That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore Lyrics

Yes, PoisonTheWells. You are the ONLY person who gets high and listens to The Mars Volta. Drugs and music?? What a crazy and original combination! Good thing we have radical thinkers like you around to show that the world has a bright future. You know whats even "sicker"? The fact that the drama and emotion in these very songs that you are "rolling or tripping or whatever" to revolve around the tragedy of drug abuse; the same demon that took the life of one of their band members. |

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – The Angels' Share Lyrics
| 19 years ago

I agree 100% The album version tries to mess with the formula too much by bringing the melodies in and out. It's a pretty simple song and the album version tries to make it into something more. The demo just charges in harder and harder keeps building, so damn cool. The driving force in the demo works better with the claustrophobic lyrics. |

This is why FiF was so great, they can write powerful Christain songs without coming off as preachy (although some people you can never please). You don't have to be a certian religion, age, social state, to feel the courage and optimisim in this one. |

Going into the title i knew this would be the most amazing FiF song ever made.
Just a little trivia for those that don't have "The Youth of America...", Reese kicks off "All That Is Good" by saying "This song is called... It's so hot I'm gonna have a heat stroke." and well, the rest is history... |
