Idlewild – Live In A Hiding Place Lyrics

I like this song alot more than the other singles off the new album. As for what it means I agree with Lorna kind of. To me Roddy is singing about two seperate realtionships he has. One with someone who he has a difficult confusing relationship with, ut who he cares a lot about.
"But if time was right then I would be with you again
Or do you worry that I try to avoid the point
And then deny
The time I spent deciding it was you again"
And the other who he has a normal relationship with but who doesn't mean anything to him.
"And you're full of facts
But not things that could add up to words"
To me the whole point of the song is him trying to escape this confusion (IE. IN A HIDING PLACE!!, you following me?) and try to work out how he really feels. Or maybe I'm way off track. |

Cave-In – Big Riff Lyrics

Along with Luminance this is my favourite Cave In song. Oh man they rock out. I agree with Convectuoso on the title. As for the meaning, I guess it's one of those ones that's strikes a different chord with everyone. To me it has this really huge religious aspect to it. Kinda about those things like guilt, repetence, fear, the stuff that 'God' supposedly advises us on how to deal with in the bible. But how, in the real world, it's kinda hard for anyone, even someone with a really strong faith to always be rational and mild. But maybe that's just me. Kick ass song anyway. |

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – As Sure As The Sun Lyrics

This is my favourite song of the moment. I can't get over how great BRMC'S vocalists are, in every song. In this song though it's the drum beat that I really like. It's like the backbone of all the distorted guitar and scratchy vocal stuff. My favourite bit is at the end "What keeps me down what keeps you down". Wicked. Rock on. |

I like this band alot, even though I don't think they have that much to offer in terms of originality, there's something about this song that moves me. |

Feeder – Come Back Around Lyrics

This song has definatly grown on me. It seems a lot more angsty, and obviously people have linked like to the death of their drummer, but to me, it seems the subject of this song is not a friend's death. In actual fact it makes me think of some of the shit things going on in the world generally right now, like in the Middle East, specifically Israel. Parts of the song such as "There’s no new religion, and there’s no real solution" especially. That's prolly just me though. Good catchy pop song, some wicked riffs too.

Anyone who likes [spunge] will like Mafia Vs Ninja. I don't really think too much of [spunge] but I do like this song, it seems a lot better than their other efforts. Rock. |

I can definetly see this song being about the band's early days. The lyrics I think, and the video really express those sentiments. |

Aqualung – Strange And Beautiful (I'll Put A Spell On You) Lyrics
| 21 years ago
|
I haven't heard this song on the new beetle advert of whatever. I read about Aqualung. Then i saw the video on mtv2. I love the line that goes "you turn every head, but you don't see me" and the melody kind of goes down in steps. I think this kind of song can hit a chord with anyone who's ever wanted someone who seems to be out of their leauge or not interested for whatever reason. His voice reminds me of the Doves singer, or of someone. Maybe David Gray. But this song is a lot better than either of those artists material. A truly beautiful record. |

The Vines – Outtathaway! Lyrics

Don't get me wrong, I like The Vines. But they have been hyped WAY too much. Like The Strokes before them but to an even greater extreme. Craig Nicholls has nothing original about him whatsoever. He just so obviously a huge Kurt Cobain fan. I mean, does originality mean nothing? Magazines like NME are full on blowing them out of all proportion. They have a couple of nice catchy songs but I mean, come on, best album of the year? They're almost a ska band for fuck's sake! |

Hell Is For Heroes – Me, You And A Whole Lotta Funk 45s Lyrics

This song was originally called Ice Walking and it was a b-side. Last time I saw HifH live I asked Justin and he said it was just the band taking the piss out of themselves. So there you go. This song's wicked and so is the next single. Rock. |

Sinch – Something More Lyrics

This is an amazing song. The chordal progressions are spot on. And like sevenstringthing said, Jamie's voice is amazing. I'm not sure how well I can relate to this song but the strength of pure emotion that comes from it would be enough to move anyone. To me Jamie is singing about the loss of somebody. Probably a girlfriend or something. And he's describing how his feelings are so strong he doesn't dare think or look at it properly. "The worst is yet to come, so vulnerable and dumb say the words and I'll dissolve
Tell me how long should this last I've been forgetting how to act and
These memories will burn like gasoline"
He also articulates the way people feel when they lose someone. Denial, depression, and reliving good times. Amazing. I think the end part of the song is describing that feeling people often get. You know, that the media is always pumping this image into your life of what you sahould be and how you should look, and that to be anything else is, in a sense, inferior. To a certain extenet, it takes quite a lot of self will to turn away from that path and do what you want. Perhaps to tie that in to what I was saying before about losing somebody, maybe he's thinking if he became like a movie star or a pop star he could get whoever it was back. I think that's what is meant by "wish that I could be imitating the screen imitating the screen if you hate something it goes away if you hate something then just wait" |

Hundred Reasons – Silver Lyrics
|
Hundred Reasons are post-hardcore. How anyone can liken them to Blink 182 is beyond me. I've seen Hundred Reasons four times so far this year, and at no point have they sounded like pop-punk. I've been a Hundred Reasons fan for a year now and as a fan with quite a lot of longlevity with the band I must say I thought the album was quite a disappointment. Having said that, I have never known such a perfect end to an album as Avalanche. |

Idlewild – American English Lyrics

I think that although this song is nice it doesn't compare to the stuff on 100 broken windows. I'm sure it'll do well. I've seen the video too, very pretty. And Roddy's certainly a sharp dresser. That outfit is very snappy. It'll be quite ironic if, like Ewan suggested, this song makes Idlewild famous since it is one of their weaker songs and they are capable of a lot more. Especially live. |
