This song is from a split they did with Strength in Numbers, a side project of the lead singer from Hot Rod Circuit. It was this song and Moshi Moshi that made the four song split. They actually wound up playing this song when I went to see them live, except they played it much faster.

Simon and Garfunkel – I Am A Rock Lyrics

The song is about his desire to avoid pain and brokenheartedness. He doesn't want to be hurt again, so he refuses to make friends, to fall in love, he'll be a hermit. It may sound determined, but by the end of the song it's obvious it's all a lie he tells himself to get through the days. He's alone and it hurts him, but he'll tell himself he likes it that way, hoping it won't hurt so badly. The last two lines explain it; he's not a rock, he's been hurt and has cried, but will pretend not to. The "island never cries" line is possibly the most meaningful part. As he says this, he may as well be crying.

This song isn't about the affair in the movie. Well, I guess it is, but it's more or less about Mrs. Robinson trying to live a life she can't. She still living as if she's young and carefree, and it's contrasted by mentioning what people her age may do, settle down, find religion, etc. Joe DiMaggio is both an example of former American value, but of that of her own generation. Joe DiMaggio and Mrs. Robinson are nearly the same age. He has retired by now, and faded from the spotlight, because he can't keep doing all the things he did as a youth(baseball), and because he no longer is there to be a role model for America's youth. But hey, that's just my opinion... and this is my brother's nickname. Oops...

This song is about moving on. It seems Chris just got done with a painful relationship that forced him away from the girl he really cares about. He can't sleep at night without her beside him. He rolls around, and he thinks about how she's moving on, and he isn't. He's being nostalgic with his relationship, and he finds many things to remind him. Her hair that's everywhere, well... she's got hair that's everywhere. He finds strands of her locks on the pillowcases and throughout the place, and every one he finds reminds him of this girl, and how she's off with some other guy right now. They're screaming infidelities. He thinks she's just doing it to get over him, that she's not happy, and that she's not enjoying herself. Well, I know one of them isn't enjoying themselves. Poor Chris here is heartbroken, but he'll get better in time.
