Bright Eyes – How Many Lights Do You See? Lyrics 23 years ago
I like it, its quite weird, very mantra-like, at the words flow like a gentle stream over stones, never getting too excited or frenetic, just leisurely and serene. It's nice. Not a masterpiece, but still very good.

Bright Eyes – Happy Birthday to Me (Feb. 15) Lyrics 23 years ago
I love this song, thought it took a bit of time for me to get into it, but it's great, poignant lyrics, typical BE. It's really quite depressing, but in such a beautiful way. There's almost little glimmers of hope occasionally with lines, and it ends quite neutrally, with

"but thank you for talking because i needed to
some things just can't wait"

as if something had finally been resolved in his mind. Feb 15th, the day after Valentine's Day...any connection, like some sort of disappointment after not receiving a card from someone? Who knows?

Bright Eyes – Exaltation on a Cool, Kitchen Floor Lyrics 23 years ago
Weird song, seems to stop laying what he planned to half-way thruogh and have a little jam session, but it's all good stuff, and the lovely lyrics and serene meldoy and acoustic guitar make this one a slightly under-rated one I think.

Bright Eyes – The Difference in the Shades Lyrics 23 years ago
This song is totally fantastic. My favourite from the Letting Off The Happiness album, and probably my second favourtie BE song ever. It is absolutely gorgeous. It makes me feel weird every time I listen to it. It starts off so beautiful and then gets steadily more and more depressing which is sad, but ultimately beautiful.

Bright Eyes – Pull My Hair Lyrics 23 years ago
This song is unnaturally good. Why unnatural? Well by all accounts it shouldn't be good, but the totally over-the-top drums, the distant vocals, the echoes of Neely, and the eccentric yet forceful lyrics all combine to create something superb, and so listenable, you can't help but move with this song, and it's anticipatory nature. "And the truth is I can hardly wait, I don't care if we stay up too late." Great line.

Bright Eyes – Sunrise, Sunset Lyrics 23 years ago
Possibly my favourite BE song, but there are so many good ones, it's hard to say for sure. Lovely triple time almost waltz-like feel, and the mandolin and flute add excellence, but the lyrics are superb, a real thought-provoker, and a sort of perennial, worldly-wise angst, almost resignation. Great stuff.

Bright Eyes – Jetsabel Removes the Undesireables Lyrics 23 years ago
I adore this song, it's so utterly downcast, every word flows like a stream, in waves of poetry and beauty. Maybe slightlyself-absorbed, but it's so fun to listen to, in a way that's aprt of why it's so good. The simple yet effective accompaniment is subtle, and unobtrusive. Gorgeous. Why he didn't put this on Fevers And Mirrors is unfathomable. Anyone know, cos it was on the Japanese version, I think. Why not the UK or US one??
