Neutral Milk Hotel – Oh Comely Lyrics
|
It makes sense if you say that Jeff said this was about a girl that he wasn't there for. The Anne Frank reference:
"And I know they buried her body with others
Her sister and mother and 500 families
And will she remember me 50 years later
I wished I could save her in some sort of time machine."
could be him comparing the same feelings, like he wishes that he could have been there for both of them.
I'm sure I've heard somewhere that Jeff said "this song is about a lot of things" before playing it... |

Well "Lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off, but it's better if we do" is a quote from 'Closer', so there is another reference. Plus those two songs seem to fit the story of the movie perfectly. |

Apparantly John made Yoko write a list of all the men she had slept with shortly after they had met... and he wrote this as an apology. S'what I heard. |

Cursive – Butcher the Song Lyrics
|
i think by organ he just means the instrument... and by ugly organ he means ugly music, or music about pain. and that is what this album is about.
by butcher's knife i think he means either self-harm and self-hate or wanting to distance himself from his music, because it hurts him to write it, and he's thinking about giving it all up for good. or maybe a bit of both.
any thoughts? |

Eminem – Like Toy Soldiers Lyrics

"my bum is on your lips" was a quote from a tom green song anyway... I think this song is pretty general, but i was wondering what was 50's beef?
when i sing the chorus of this song in my head, it always turns into "nancy boy" by placebo, which is rather unfortunate.
also, is suge the same suge that owned tupacs record company, and who some say shot him? |

The Shins – Saint Simon Lyrics

i always hear beach boys influences in the shins. not like the blues rock riffs, but the vocal melodies have that feel, in a sort of "good vibrations verse" sort of way. maybe his voice is slightly high pitched brian wilson-esque...
don't think i'm crazy |

The Shins – Girl On The Wing Lyrics
|
to me, it seems more like its about these two people who love each other, but just cant get along and always fall out... and in this son he is saying "cant we just forget it all and be happy".
as for the "i sold all my evil motives,
no icicles stuck in my hide.
i'm through with riddles, i know we're little
just help me feel warm inside" well he is just saying that he's willing to forget all grudges and just let them be happy.

Morrissey – Bengali In Platforms Lyrics
|
the "narrator" is just saying to the boy/man that moving to the western world might not be what he dreamed of because people are racist, and it may be hard to live here.
And he is also saying to the western people, that this guy just wants to embrace your culture...
it is in no way racist. |

i don't like the lyric changes he has done here... he messed it all around so that is doesnt make as much sense or have as much charm... the jam's version sounds much better too. |

The Smiths – What She Said Lyrics
|
"What she read
all heady books
she'd sit and prophesise
(it took a tattooed boy from
Birkenhead
to really really open her eyes)"
that is one of my favourite couple of lines. its a bit sad, but its so true, and then the refference to birkenhead just tops it off... it reminds you just how brittish morrissey is, plus birkenhead is less than half an hour from where i live... fickle i know, but it makes here seem a bit cooler |

The Smiths – William, It Was Really Nothing Lyrics
| 16 years ago
|
this song is about wanting to get on with your life because you feel you should be. and get married just seems like part of the life plan, even when you know the girl you're with isnt in love...
as for that fat thing, i have no idea.. maybe its just about her not being what he imagined he would marry |

The Smiths – Shoplifters of the World Unite Lyrics

no kez, you are not stupid, everyone else is for assuming that every single smiths song is about being gay
I think that this song is about defending poor people who commit little petty crimes because they have to, when there are peopl doing worse things that we dont class as "criminals" |

The Smiths – How Soon Is Now? Lyrics

morrissey isnt gay, and he may well be bisexual, but i really dont think its such an issue to him. he says he doesnt understand the prefixes to the word "sexual", he just thinks that we are all just "sexual", and this song (and many others of his) may have something to do with sexuality, but not his sexual prefferences.
if you are gay, then thats what this song might mean to you, but don't assume that all of morrissey's songs are about that because i dont think its such a big part of his life.
i do love the lyrics to this song, but musically, it isnt my favourite by a long shot... irecently saw morrissey play this song at leeds festival, but mostly because of the fact that it is a smiths song, and he hasn't played it in so many years. sort of a disbelief, needless to say, it was amazing. |

elizabeth is a real person, your'e thinking of MARIA i think.
because adam says he alone in this song, it seems more like this girl that comes to him at night is all in his head. he imagines her coming to sit next to him and all that... and it just makes him feel more alone |

he's missing someone really badly, and he's feeling so strange when theyre not there, and he just doesnt want to be there, or feel it. i think "i wanna sink slowly without getting wet" sums it up.
as for the end part, it soudns like he's just drifting off into dream, and starting to feel kind of angry/careless. |

Counting Crows – Love And Addiction Lyrics
| 16 years ago
|
i think its about him going out and having a good time, and having sex... and then fooling himself that it is love. and deep down he knows that it means nothing, but he just wants to ignore it, and doesnt really care.
some parts he's is trying to convince this woman that it could be love, and that he's a good catch... then towards the end he accepts that it was just fun, and he's saying "i deserve it, i knew it all along" sort of thing... and so he decides to just fuck it and go and have a good time again. |
