Nine Inch Nails – The Only Time Lyrics 17 years ago
I think this song is about a one night stand. "and right now I'm so in love with you" One night stands are often looked down upon by society so "maybe I'm all messed up" explains his feelings towards his "moral standing" laying down. How can you get the feeling of something new with somone more than once? You can't. So you have to continue to find that feeling, so in these situations "this is the only time I really feel alive"
I love the song, and seeing him preform it on the Closure concert tape just...hmm...do I really need to explain?

Tori Amos – Marianne Lyrics 17 years ago
[This has not much to do with anything, but shortly after my rat Marianne died, I got this album and heard this song. ]
anyway:
I think that even though years have passed, you just sometimes will remember someone whether or not any thing sparked the memory, and perhaps one day while writing, she was just "having thoughts of Marianne" and wrote of the reaction that came from everyone of her death.

Just to add.. the Delirium character was modeled after Tori. You'll see Neil and "the dream king" referred to in quite a few songs.

Tori Amos – Winter Lyrics 17 years ago
AriLuvsSondheim said: "mirror mirror, where's the crystal palace" The song is about her being addicted to speed. ..... but like she talks about wiping her nose and the "ice" getting thin..."
That's a very interesting take on it. Personally, I think "Mirror, mirror" would probably refer to children's fairy tales. As would the crystal palace. Didn't all little girl envision themselves to be princesses? And when you grew up and realized it wasn't what you thought it would be, didn't you say "Hey...! Wait a minute...!" ?
The song is definately about her father. He takes a part in so much of her work. I think it's so great that so many of you chose this as your favorite. It's so fascinating to read everyone's take on the same song.... :)

Tori Amos – Raspberry Swirl Lyrics 17 years ago
I think it also kinda goes along with the closeness of women. Kind of like that protectiveness that comes with being best friends. Like a man wants to get with her, well, he better make her raspberry swirl. And friends always make sure their friends are taken care of. The song is in fact very sexual in nature. We can give our friends everything they need except one thing.... And let's face it, it takes a real man to give a woman what she needs.

Tori Amos – God Lyrics 17 years ago
Tori often changes her songs meanings and stories. Perhaps it's to make you think of your own interpretation. It just seems to me that more often that anything, god doesn't come through. Where is god when babies are murdered, women are raped, children are abused? "you always go when the wind blows" I think she's saying, god needs a woman to look after him, to keep him on the ball. But then she goes on to say "would you even tell her if you decide to make the sky?" Just like a man, would he ever answer to a woman? I think she's more telling god what's up. Because she's always found religion hard to swallow.

Tori Amos – Girl Lyrics 17 years ago
This was my theme song during my teenage years. My father even tried to identify me with it. Very interesting. How I could not save myself, though I wish I had.

Tori Amos – Hey Jupiter Lyrics 17 years ago
"I always imagine the descent into madness that has come with falling in love." Faded, that was probably one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard.

Tori Amos – Baker Baker Lyrics 17 years ago
It is a beautiful song. She couldn't return his feelings "I ran from him in all kinds of ways...guess it was his turn this time." She stayed hoping in time, she'd grow to return the love, but in reality, he wised up and she misses what could have been, had it been meant to be.

Tori Amos – Caught A Lite Sneeze Lyrics 17 years ago
Well, neither Trent nor Tori speak much of their relationship, tho it's rumored the problems Trent had with Courtney Love is what broke them up (or at least what could have been) Too bad though, they would have made beautiful babies together.
Though she mentioned Nine Inch Nails in "Precious Things", had his back up vocals on "Past the Mission" and even in "Professional Widow" she says "Starfucker" which later becomes a NIN song.
But I think it's a message to those girls that believe they're with THE ONE, but in reality, he's only a lite sneeze. For lack of a better term -he aint that great- .

Tori Amos – The Wrong Band Lyrics 17 years ago
How do you get out of a bad situation? When the world is keeping you in a place you'd rather not be, what do you have to do to get out of it? Especially when "even the sun's got a price on it"
I was hoping someone had given their interpretation of this song....

Tori Amos – Black-Dove (January) Lyrics 17 years ago
Well, taken on an abuse level many children escape from the situation, by "going to another place". The nightmares still with them even if it's long been over. And how many people do you know have been abused? More than you think. Since it's usually kept secret. "They don't know you've already lived..." Very sad. Once of my favorites.

Tori Amos – '97 Bonnie and Clyde (Eminem cover) Lyrics 17 years ago
Didn't Tori once say something to the effect of "If you're going to do a remake, it has to be a challenge" ? Is this not a challenge? To remake a song by a controversial artist on a controversial subject? It also fits into the whole "strange little girls" category, since Eminem wrote the song that it was he and his daughter on the run -like partners in crime. Taking charge of a situation to better suit their needs. (Nevermind the fact that Haley was really young when it was written) I think that it was a very good remake, and it was definately not Tori in a very Tori way.

Tori Amos – Cornflake Girl Lyrics 17 years ago
My take on it was different. I mean, I agree with Jupiter Masochist, because I believe that is a direct Tori quote. However I had it backwards of XmisfitXgirlX's interpretation, as the Corn Flake girls being those flakey rich girls, while the raisin girls were the ones with meaning. Because the not popular girls more often want to be friends with the popular ones. Never is it the other way around, hence "Never was a cornflake girl thought that was a good solution hanging with the raisin girls".. just my .02 cents.
