this song seems to be about letting go and leaving. the world is falling apart and everything reminds him of what he's trying to forget. it's an affirmation of all the stuff that was wrong with the relationship, the self destructive nature of it all. |

to me, this song is about knowing that it isn't over yet, but that it soon will be... the speaker is cynical about the relationship and understands that at some point it will cease to exist, and by then the butterflies and excitement and plans will be gone. but towards the end he understands that he has to let go, and live the moments for the moments. "when the time we have now ends/ when the big hand goes round again/ can you still feel the butterflies?/ can you still hear the last goodnight?" was my quote for my camp yearbook, and i'm happy i picked it, because that living in the moment was really what i wanted to emulate. |

this song was like my mantra for a while, which is interesting because i don't really know exactly what the end of the second verse means... but it seems right, and incredibly empowering (except for the parts about getting drunk until everything makes sense-- actually come to think of it i probably should have picked a better mantra...) |

not the hugest oasis fan, but this song strikes some chord with me, something that's not totally egomaniacal and rock starry, something that goes a bit deeper. i'm not sure that i mean to say it's particularly about me and my friends, but close enough to the way that i feel about them-- that way that we shut each other our while still remaining close, the way that we can somehow keep our eyes open for each other even if we're having a fight. that's it, i think, that's why everyone needs a wall behind them. |
