AFI – God Called In Sick Today Lyrics | 22 years ago |
After reading everyone's posts, I think that this song is about religion and how it causes pain and suffering and hatred. It is a reprise on the history of violence spawned by religion: --Let's admire the pattern forming. --Murderous filigree. Throughout history there has been a pattern of bloodshed and mayhem, a murderous filigree since each religious war spawns new ones to follow it. --I'm caught in the twisting of the vine. The narrator finds himself in the midst of these tides of conflict --Go ascend with ivy, climbing. --Ignore and leave for me the headstone crumbling behind. He invites the listener to go join in this mad conflict and leave him behind to obscurity --I can't help my laughter as she cries. --My soul brings tears to angelic eyes. He finds the conflict ridiculous and can't help but laugh at the stupidity of those who fight for religion, killing others in the name of god. His countenance seems unsympathetic, bringing tears to angelic eyes. --Let's amend the classic story, close it so beautifully, --I'll let animosity unwind. Instead of continuing this bloodshed, lets change this usual course of events, and let the animosity from previous conflicts die out. --Steal away the darkened pages, hidden so shamefully. --I'll still feel the violence of the lines. We try to hide the fact that we have fought for so long yet all around us is the violence we try to pretend didn't happen. --I can't stand my laughter as they cry. --My soul brings tears to angelic eyes. --And miles away my mother cries. --Omnipotence, nurturing malevolence. As they fight to no conclusion I laugh. My callousness brings tears. And somewhere far away a mother cries at this bloodshed. Omnipotence, god, nurturing malevolence since people will fight in the name of god. |

Anti-Flag – Kill The Rich Lyrics | 22 years ago |
we set up sadaam hussein to fight the iranians, who use our weapons from iran-contra. we support an authoritarian regime in Saudi Arabia since they have oil and support our bases. We protect Kuwait since it has oil, but we let tibet and rwanda fall to its own devices... nations are always led by an elite, even our so called democracy... we are led by the corporations, the rich, who use social darwinism and tell us to be content to be their pawns |
Anti-Flag – I Don't Believe Lyrics | 22 years ago |
taking stanford 9s i saw how biased the test was. one question, the only answer that made sense was that north korea invaded south korea with the help of the russians. that is such bullshit. the russians didnt even kno the invasions happened and were boycotting the UN security coucil meetings. as a result the US was able to back a UN resolution to support the south koreans. the russians, who were absent could not veto. they never missed a security council meeting again :]... yet it shows the tainted atmosphere in which we are supposed to be able to think for ourselves |
Anti-Flag – You've Got To Die For The Government Lyrics | 22 years ago |
its not that america is a hell... its better than anything else out there... doesnt mean that its perfect or any good... a lesser evil... id still like to think it could be made better... dont want to lose faith, but look at our president and then look at the person he beat... they both point out a bleak forecast for this nation |
Anti-Flag – A New Kind Of Army Lyrics | 22 years ago |
there's a war brewing between india and pakistan, two countries exactly the same ethnically with religion being the only thing dividing them. And they will kill each other. All wars are the result of a few 'educated' men who donn the banner of patriotism and national interest. nationalism is hate... why do we devote ourselves to nations and institutions when we can just devote ourselves to each other |

Adema – Speculum Lyrics | 22 years ago |
What I love about this song is that it captures his dispair in being unable to express what he feels... I cannot reach that soul I can't say what I would have done The most sincere emotions cannot be expressed in words |

i love this song... yah im a dork |
Eminem – Hailie's Song Lyrics | 22 years ago |
damn eminem... i dont want to like him but u really can't help but to admire his talent. I dunno, i kno he says a lot of what he says to shock even tho he doesnt believe it and im kinda glad that now hes getting to the point that he can perhaps better express himself through his music. different music does not belong to different races. we just have to use it to express ourselves through the means most comfortable to ourselves and eminem has been able to intricately weave emotions of hate, rage, anger, and love in such a way that has captured ppl's interest... simply said, this guy is for real |
New Found Glory – My Friends Over You Lyrics | 22 years ago |
I don't see whats wrong with bands changing their style... I hope music can evolve instead of remaining static. And if those teenie-boppers are drawn to punk bands i think its better cuz maybe it can open their minds to the reality around them instead of their living vicariously through mtv programming. Yeah New Found Glory's music is really simple, but isn't there beauty to be found in simplicity? |

Thrice – To Awake and Avenge the Dead Lyrics | 22 years ago |
yah makes sense... killing aristotle, who is like the historical manifestation of traditional reasoning... but is it about how during war we abandon reason... cuz it talks about violence in the name of love... i dunno ive always been trying to make sense of this song thanks for checkin it out tho |
AFI – Morningstar Lyrics | 22 years ago |
kinda reminds me of paradise lost... kinda captures the feeling of rejection and uses references to the devil to explain it |
Thrice – Where Idols Once Stood Lyrics | 22 years ago |
it reminds me of america... all our life we've been told we're this noble and great country and then all of a sudden we learn that our past is one dictated by economic exploitation not morals. Our beliefs in the nobility and the ideology of America is shattered but we still believe that our government is good and that society is something great... we will not realize the evils of our country because we are patriots and believe america can do no wrong, we might as well baske in our illusions, we all see what we want to anyways, and we kno this dream is at stake, that we actually could find out that we are not this great moral pillar and are just another nation with a history of exploitation. But we never tell that story in the textbooks, so the children believe in these ideals that america is supposedly about... only those who take an interest can see through the patriotic rhetoric |
Thrice – Where Idols Once Stood Lyrics | 22 years ago |
our idols lay in ruins we’d have saved them if we could The things we once believed in we now know to no longer be true but we still choose to worship the places where our idols stood but in our self-deception we still hold on to those beliefs still believe they can save us still believe that they hold the key to our existence i’ve lived this way too long to turn back now presuppositions set in stone this coffin sealed by my own pride in my pride and prejudgment i cannot change my beliefs and though it seems the sun will shine ill draw the shades and stay inside and although i could find the truth i will baske in my own ignorance which i identify with if we’ve learned anything at all its that the chests of idols will do just as well we all see what we want to anyway (anyway) since we all deceive ourselves i might as well some things are better left unsaid the truth destoys ideal... it is best to leave it unsaid you know what’s at stake something’s are better left unsaid as long as we can keep it in textbooks, then we’ll be untouchable, untouchable through society we can instill the same lies and false ideals we believed in we hate to lie to children but after all its all for their own good its better for them to believe in a world with ideals instead of knowing the truth of our own imperfections |
Thrice – Where Idols Once Stood Lyrics | 22 years ago |
no theres more to it than that |
Thrice – See You in the Shallows Lyrics | 22 years ago |
i like what zach had to say, but one thing ive found about punk is that the world around us seems to becoming more and more stale and somehow punk is about vitality and the thing i like about thrice is that it captures that fleeting emotion which shows us that theres something more to life than this uniformity and boredom, that we can recreate ourselves and this world to be something greater. |
Thrice – To Awake and Avenge the Dead Lyrics | 22 years ago |
i could be completely wrong but well here goes... to understand it, the song is probably about a generalization, but lets apply it to a set context putting this song into context of september 11th: old friend they told me you were dead the news broadcast the funeral that day our innocence and sense of invincibility was lost and we lost many whom we loved, it was all over the news your love was ravished drawn and quartered the soil was swift to drink her blood this violence in the name of love the love we felt for the victims was turned to hate against those who had carried out the act and thus was ravished from pure love to hatred. When we bombed Afghanistan which had nothing to do with the attack, albeit a horrible government with economic ties to terrorists, we turned this love into violence against people who had as little to do with the attack as those in our country but i still feel you despite your tombstone but i still feel you despite your tombstone but we still remember the innocence we lost and the loved ones who perished and how once we had love instead of hate so friend you must still walk among us in places we don’t dare to glance i saw you killing Aristotle i know its all part of the plan so now their memories stay with us, a seat of love which has turned to ahte which we do not wish to glance at. This hate killed aristotle, destroyed logic, all part of the diabolical scheme of hate to pit humans against other humans this violence, this violence, this violence in the name of love TO….AWAKE….AND …. AVENGE THE DEAD! TO….AWAKE….AND …. AVENGE THE DEAD! and this violence which tarnished that love was all to avenge the dead well maybe im wrong but ive tried to make sense of this song and that so far makes the most sense to me someone tell me to shut up if im way off |

what is the it that this song is talking about? ego? pride? self-centeredness? |
Thrice – Betrayal Is A Symptom Lyrics | 22 years ago |
why are ppl so opposed to the idea of thrice having christian influences... religion is a philosophy of living and thrice writes songs about life and its struggles and the two are well connected |
Thrice – Kill Me Quickly Lyrics | 22 years ago |
they have a reference to red white and blue i wonder if that means anything |
Thrice – Trust Lyrics | 22 years ago |
in our lives we have danger and the margin of error is small and we dont know who we can trust but in having faith in each other we can reach solace |
Thrice – Freedom Lyrics | 22 years ago |
fighting until free of ur imperfections |
Thrice – Phoenix Ignition Lyrics | 22 years ago |
a phoenix is a mythical that rose from the ashes of its own destruction to greater glory. this song is about such a recreation of yourself from your own destruction. In the wake of your destruction, you make urself into something greater, everyday tearing down the walls which held you back from becoming perfect, and not to hold yourself back from greatness and with every day living a life and creating a self more perfect |
Thrice – So Strange I Remember You Lyrics | 22 years ago |
this song is about how we've thrown away our faith and lost in this modern world where we find no meaning and simply try to explain what we know (reference to Nietzche) and how every once in a while we get a glimpse that there is something more to life and we convince ourselves its only a lie |
Thrice – A Living Dance Upon Dead Minds Lyrics | 22 years ago |
this song is about how we try to quantify life and make it seem ordered and predictable but there is something beautifull about it that we can't even begin to understand but which we all know deep inside of ourselves |
Thrice – The Beltsville Crucible Lyrics | 22 years ago |
this is about how some friends will just watch their friends self-destruct but a real friend doesnt want to see his friends hurt and is willing to hurt him in order to save him from greater pain. i've had a time when i couldve saved a close friend from ruining things for himself but i was too scared to hurt him in the short term that i let him hurt himself in the long term |
Thrice – Identity Crisis Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Yah Bigwillystyle, u cant compare hardcore to other music since they are each trying to portray different emotions. Thrice is about the struggles we all live with day in and day out and our daily battle to be true to ourselves and each other. It isn't about fancy cars and hoes and whatever most commercialized music talks about, its about reality |
Thrice – Identity Crisis Lyrics | 22 years ago |
this song is about someone who is disillusioned by the world and by himself and no longer believes in himself. He does not know what to believe in anymore. He decides to identify with something, either a friend in whom he trusts implicitly or god depending on your interpretation. But this song is about not living and trusting only in yourself but in having faith in others and the solace that you can get from such an action |
