Radiohead – Little by Little Lyrics 4 years ago
What it means to me:

Turn to nasty now
The dark cell
The pillar of my soul
The last one out of the box
The one who broke this spell

How we turn nasty, the dark cells within us, the (a) pillar of our soul (our base reptilian response to stimulus) as a result of prolonged exposure to a corrupted society.

Little by little by hook or by crook
I'm such a tease
And you're such a flirt
Once you've been hurt
You've been around enough

Little by little they change us by hook (all of the superficial things that hook us - pop culture, advertising, convenience - They are such a tease, they tease/ lure us with these things. We are such flirts by flirting with these things that will ultimately eat us. And by crook, the compromises we have to make to survive. The little injustices that we are asked to take part in, ignore and ultimately acquiesce to.

Never get earnest
Never get judged
I'm no idiot
I should look

Don't speak up, don't challenge the way things are - never get earnest. And you will never get judged because once you're playing their game, once you've gotten your hands dirty, you can't be judged by those who perpetrate the injustices. We play along because you'd have to be an idiot to get earnest. Generally, people don't want to be in the out-group. But, the turn to introspection, I should look. We should look at ourselves and see what it is we're doing and what we become.

Your clue on hold, snapped up
Crawling with my love
The last one out of the box
The one that broke the seal

After introspection, you start to get a clue but it's on hold, snapped up - arrested, distracted - crawling with my love. We end up loving the very system that kills us. We tend to love not being judged and will do whatever we have to do to avoid it - so even when we get a clue that somethings not right, it's easily diverted and snapped up as we are caught up with just trying not to draw embarrassment or be ostracized. We don't want the penny to drop on us and be the last one out of the box or the one who breaks the spell because that draws that same attention to us. No one wants to be left out.

Obligation
Complication
Routines and schedules
Drug and kill you
Kill you

It's all facilitated by Obligation to the system, our friends and family etc., the inherent Complication (cognitive dissonance) of sacrificing our values for avoiding being ostracized, the Routines and schedules, all, reinforce the whole process, drug and kill you. They kill you.

Little by little by hook or by crook
Never get nervous
Never get judged
I'm no idiot
I should look

Radiohead – Morning Mr. Magpie Lyrics 4 years ago
My understanding of the magpie is that it's very loud, squawking over the other birds. I took this song to mean that someone is coming in and talking over Thom (or whomever), stealing his thunder as it were. A blabbermouth.

When people do this, they got some nerve, coming here, stealing my melody. They steal it all. Give it back.

You know you should... say something perhaps, like "Right. Fuck off you twit." But you don't.

The Morning Mr. Magpie how are we today is a bit of a condescending tone imho.
