Pantera – Live In A Hole Lyrics 4 years ago
Allthough I think that Slatans interpretation is really good I doubt that this song was meant to symbolize a transformation of some kind. I think this song is about being an outsider in society and the way of life that acompanies such a role.

These lyrics speak so much to me. In my opinion it's about struggling with a society dominated by mainstream music and mindless people. (Like slatan said)
And the consequence of that is sheltering yourself because of the lack of understanding for an alternative lifestyle, which then turns to hate through growing frustration of not being understood. The result is mental struggle and growing ignorance for "the ones I will not be like" and with that comes the realization that you're outnumbered and have to stay "close to your kind" unless you want to die alone.

Like I said, I feel deeply understood by these lyrics. I grew up in a small town near a big city in germany. And since metal isn't considered "cool" anymore by my generation (I'm 20 btw) there are not many people understanding and tolerating my way of life. I feel like an alien my dudes. In general most people in my age (and luckily not all) consume music like groceries. They listen to a song for a short period of time, as long as it is considered "cool", and then forget about it.
The artistical value is lost in pop and in the people listening to it. There is almost no understanding of asthethics and art left in them.
I hate that. Music is one of the most valuable forms of art and expression that exist and only a very small group of people still knows how to appreciate that.
I think that Anselmo went through a similar thing, as there has always been conservative and close minded people.
