Hurt – House Carpenter Lyrics 15 years ago
I think the lyrics are wrong on this song. "If you're not breathing why am I left alone in this ship?" I don't think is correct. I think it is "If you're not breathing why am I left alone in this shit?" Everytime I listen to it it, it sounds more like a T at the end of that line than a P. It also makes more sense in the song as well. I don't buy the poem reference. To me, he is singing obviously about someone he loved, presumably a wife or significant other, that probably passed away and he is using the refence to Jesus as a house carpenter as a gentle way to put it. He cared about this person very much and now he hopes she is off in heaven, but the torment on him is obviously great. A song with as much obvious emotion invested in it is probably one written from some sort of personal experience. The voice in the end of the song leads me to believe that his love is probably dead and gone, this fueling the inspiration for this song, the name of the band and many of the other songs and tones on this album and most of their other material.

Augustana – Boston Lyrics 17 years ago
My friend made the point that this song could possibly be about gay marriage and after thinking about it, it is possible.

Gay marriage was legal in California for a short time but then nulified and now people are flocking to Boston, MA where gay marriage is legal.

I personally like this song and Augustana all right, but I just thought it was an interesting outlook.

This song is obviously about the death of someone or at least a close call with death.

Great song, can't believe I'm the first to comment. I especially like the line "Hold me up into the sun, and watch me burn, and watch me heal." Great song.

I think this song has to be the most lyrically clever song that Stephan has written yet. So many good cliche's put to use to have meaning on a lot of different leves. Sounds good too, great song.

Third Eye Blind – Company Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is just about craziness basically. About drug use and anything to have a good time. It's about the steroetypical perception that peoplehave about people who do all this stuff. They are labeled asbad company, and then people are defined by the company they keep.

It's a great song and their new album is great. It's one of the few albums that I can listen to every song, so don't skip through all the songs to get to this one.

Third Eye Blind – Danger Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is bad ass. I think people don't like it because it's kind of like a new, unique sound for Third Eye Blind. This is my second favorite song off of the new album, Out of the Vein, next to "My Hit and Run." It is a very unique outlook on a relationship and it just has a tune that makes you want to get up and experience some sort of danger. I like the new sound they are developing and think that their new album is really good, not quite the first, but I enjoy it more than Blue.

Third Eye Blind – My Hit and Run Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is my favorite off of Out of the Vein. It has a different sound which I think is a new type of sound that is Third Eye Blind. The message is a good one. It kinda shows the value of life and how it can be gone in a split second, i.e. a car accident. The way he describes it is kind of like a rebirth in a sense. He gets to walk away from his hit and run, and thinking that his life could have ended at that very instant but it didn't, he will have a new appreciation for life. His breakfast the next morning will be the best breakfast he has ever had in his life because for all he knows it might be his last. He paints the scene in the listener's head well too; he is a gifted lyricist. The tune is awesome too; bad ass song.

Third Eye Blind – Forget Myself Lyrics 21 years ago
I think this song is about a relationship, where the woman plays the guy until she's tired of him and then lets him go. She manipulates him by telling him she loves him, and the guy believes her and lets it go to her head. The guy is so focused on pleasing her that he forget's himself and only thinks about her and pleasing her. He doesn't know who he is without her and in the last stanza when he is looking over her shoulder and she is with a younger guy, he is being dumped. She is moving on to someone else and there is nothing that the guy can do except watch the damage run. He wishes he could change it, but he can't, the girl has gotten the best of him. Now that they are over, he doesn't know who he is because he has been living a life that is not his own trying to please the girl for so long.

Just for the record, the collaboration with Fred Durst was scrapped and didn't make the list for this record. The record should be released on April 29, 2003.

Dishwalla – Counting Blue Cars Lyrics 21 years ago
I interpret this song as maybe finding faith or having faith reinforced during the course of one's life. In the beginning of the song, I think the child poses the question about God, which sparks an interest to someone who possibly doesn't believe in God. I believe the latter stanzas are referring to different situations in which he spreads the word of Christ to other individuals. To me this song is about finding God and spreading Him to other people. In the end, he says he is on his way to see God, and he asks if he is very far. I think this is later in his life and he wants to know if he is headed to heaven or hell. Just a thought.

The Goo Goo Dolls – We Are The Normal Lyrics 21 years ago
John wrote the musical score on an LP and mailed it to the lead singer of his all time favorite band (I don't recall the guys name, or the name of the group). The lead singer listened to th tune, wrote the lyrics, and mailed it back to John, for the Goo Goo Dolls to perform.

The Goo Goo Dolls – Big Machine Lyrics 21 years ago
According to VH1 Storytellers, this song is about John's culture shock when he moved to LA. He grew up in Buffalo, NY and moved to LA only to find alot of what he knew not to be true anymore. It was so different that he wrote a song about it, about LA, or the "Big Machine."

Creed – My Own Prison Lyrics 21 years ago
I guess by "alexcny"'s comment that he isnt very spiritual. I for one find many allusions that clearly show that Stapp is talking about his judgement day before God and how Jesus is the only way to escape his prison. Hopefully he will be set free as I hope so will "alexcny" and everyone else.

Dave Matthews Band – Where Are You Going (Busted Stuff version) Lyrics 21 years ago
After reading Traumattizing's comment; sellout's care about public opinion, people who love what they do and what they play don't care what other people think about their style of music or whatever it is. If you don't like the style of music, then you don't need to buy the cd or be at the concert.

Dave Matthews Band – Where Are You Going (Busted Stuff version) Lyrics 21 years ago
Very true that the term "sellout" is tossed around way too much just because bands are receiving recognition. Bands and their styles of music do change as they mature. I wouldn't completely call Dave a sellout, but he is definitely changing with the times and becoming mainstream. "Everyday" was starting to solidify his status as a sellout, but "Busted Stuff" is more like the Dave of old, going back to the tunes that define his music. I hope he's heading back to playing for the love of playing rather than that all too common phrase of "selling out."

I think more than anything he's just trying to say sometimes it's better to not say anything rather than have the argument bust out into a brawl. Gotta' swallow your pride sometimes, but othertimes you gotta' kick some ass.

Third Eye Blind – Darkness Lyrics 21 years ago
Just a thought here, but it kinda sounds like he's finding faith. And when the world darkens around him it symbolizes how the world and society fades out and God becomes the center of his life and nothings else matters. "New ideas in my head start to burn", he's discovering christianity. "Dropped out of schools 'cause I never learned" means that the answers he's looking for aren't found in this world and they are found in God. And when he says "bring me the sun" i think he's talking about the Sun and how he wants to accept him.
