The Avett Brothers – Will You Return? Lyrics 5 years ago
I fell in love with the girl next to my house. I knew her for a year but only fell in love after like 10 months of knowing her. I never had the guts to speak to any girl, let alone the girl I love. She asks my friends about me all the time and upon knowing this fact I wanted to convey my feelings thinking it will be received and returned. Too bad, she moved to another city and I never heard from her again. It has been 3 years and I still go to sleep thinking about her. This song perfectly suits my story.

Will she, one day, come back?
I surely hope so.

Linkin Park – One More Light Lyrics 5 years ago
I think this song can be also interpreted as "being a shadow of your former self".

The line "We saw brilliance when the world was asleep" indicate the protagonist was once a prodigy who had potential to be a great but people didn't notice his oozing talent and everyone took it for granted or didn't appreciate him enough.

"There are things that we can have but can't keep" means he is losing himself to trauma and crippling depression which negatively affected his desire to reach his potential and be successful, he knows this but can't help it as he accepts the fact that depression and mental illness has killed his future and there's no point coming back as he isn't quite the same person.

The chorus embodies the alienated perspective of the people around our protagonist. They don't care that someone is facing problems and losing themselves and their trade to depression because society is forgetful, careless and indifferent.

The second verse is truly disheartening to listen to as it's extremely powerful and depressive. The protagonist we have mentioned earlier is contemplating suicide because he is becoming something he is not, he is losing his personality, traits and skills to his mental illnesses and nobody cares about him. They people who know he isn't like what he has become are gone and this new bunch of people treat him like this nobody instead of his previous genius artistic self. He is angry because it's not fair. He wants people to know that he needs help overcoming this mountain of misery to be himself again and prove he's special. The clock is ticking and the world goes on leaving him behind.

This is my interpretation of the song. It's a cry of a tortured genius. A genius who had the potential to create history but instead he lost the battle to depression and took his life. One of the best Linkin Park songs. Amazing album. We will miss you, legend. Rest in peace.
