It's definitely about falling in love. It's a beautiful song which captures my soul every time I listen to it. But I think there's a multilayered texture to the meaning, it invites the listener to create their own personal message.. it's so relatable on so many levels. I heard it at Glastonbury festival on the Saturday evening 4 years ago and it meant so much... "one day like this a year will see me right" it certainly will.. Also if you want to break down in tears and witness the true majesty of experience. Take acid in the evening with your best friends or lover.. then listen to this song when the sun comes up the next morning when your still reeling from the cosmic beauty. Seriously. |

I love this song. It's like they've broken.. They've been warning us for so long with their metaphorical nonsense about the impending doom of post modern society and our impact on the planet. But no-one takes any notice, they just carry on as normal. But now they've just sat down.. with a calm head and decided to just say it how it is.. the song is raw.. acoustic... symphonic. "Holds us like a phantom" - the invisible shackles of modern society. "Open on all channels, ready to receive" It highlights the current awakening that's happening among the people, were ready for something new. We want to receive the wisdom of the ages and rise against the nonsense.. "The numbers" if you will. (Debt slavery, time, capitalist progression, profit) "We're not at the mercy of your shimmers and spells" - the illusion is beginning to fade. We're realising that media is a massive distraction. "We are of the earth, to her we shall return" "The future is inside us... it's not somewhere else" We must rediscover out respect for nature and begin taking responsibility for our actions. We can't keep consuming.. waiting for someone else to solve our problems.. we must take back control and realise that we have the power to make that change. The final verse is so literal.. it made me cry. I can't believe how direct it is.. they're at they're wits end. "One day at a time We call upon the people People have this power The numbers don't decide Your system is a lie The river running dry The wings of a butterfly And you may pour us away like soup Like we're pretty broken flowers We'll take back what is ours Take back what is ours One day at a time" This song embodies every realisation I've had about society since I was 15 years old, I'm now 25 and in that time I've seen so many people begin to realise. And I love how it states "one day at a time".. it's not going to happen overnight, it's going to take years of patience and perseverance. This song could not have come at a better time because i sort of gave up trying to explain this stuff to people.. but it's like a little boost.. Like c'mon.. don't give up. We can make the change, just don't falter from the point! |
