@[waynestaticx85:29680] I really liked this album back in 2003. But now I'm realizing just how special it really is. I'm trying to analyze the lyrics more because they are really fucking amazing. I used to think this song was good. But now I'm kind of blown away after reading the lyrics. It's a lot better than good. |

This song to me is as amazing today in 2018 as it was in 1994. Everyone in this divisive political world on both sides need to listen to this song and these amazing lyrics. So simple, yet so profound. "I got a heart, I got blood, feel pain." I'm human, just like you. I got a heart, I got blood, I feel pain, just like you and everyone else. It doesn't matter what color I am, what religion I believe in "you can't deal with the way I pray". "Why do we all have to think this way?" He is a person who lives his life on his terms. Why can't you (people in society) just accept that this is how I live my life? You all can go fall into those single file lines and keep marching in line like army ants and complete the plan... live the way "they" want you to live...in a box, marching in single file lines. He thinks outside the box, doesn't pay attention to all the garbage advertisements on tv and in the media. He is a free thinker. He doesn't want to behave according to the socially acceptable standards of the day. Just look up the definition of the word "CONFORM". I think this song is exactly about nonconformity. It's also about TOLERANCE and UNITY and HATRED, all prevailing themes in our society today. We are all human. We all have different beliefs and we need to stop all the hatred and just listen to each other more. And say, OK, that's your opinion and I RESPECT it, I just happen to have a different opinion. |

@[Sour:25298] Girl thanks for your insight and opinion! Amazing lyrics, amazing voice, amazingly talented band. My favorite band when I was growing up in the 90's. I'm so glad I looked for the meaning of this song... the lyrics are so personal, sincere, and well written (qualities I think are missing in today's music). "Pick a song and sing a yellow nectarine" is the reason I looked this up. Maybe just a swap of sing a song and pick a yellow nectarine? Or maybe it's a personal inside joke or use of words between him and the girl that is not supposed to make sense to anyone else? Well that line is what originally brought me here. Another thing that's missing in today's lyrics (mystery). But I'm glad you shared your opinion, it makes a lot of sense. Very sad song, listening to it so soon after he passed away. One of my favorite lines and I think where the song meaning comes from is "love is still and sweat remains a cherished gift, unselfish feeling... oh I'd beg for you... oh, you know I'll beg for you". I agree with you, I think he is saying his love Still Remains and to him it's a cherished gift and unselfish feeling that will always remain with him. |

@[swellmelmel:18044] I don't think you're stupid. I think you make a lot of sense. In the song he says, "Now you're worried about your faith, kneel down and obey." To me it's a person, the storyteller, realizing that he/she is just being told what to think and to just kneel down and pray and obey what they're being told and sold and fed. They realize everything they've been told and taught is wrong or a lie or could be wrong, and they are "worried about their faith". They lost their faith and realize that Superman / God / their Savior is dead, or everything they believed in is dead or wrong. Self doubt, insecurity, and not knowing if everything is true or a lie: things that a lot of people struggle with during their lifetime. And I agree with you, that's a great thing about music and lyrics-- anyone can bring their own personal interpretation to it. |
