Defo anti-Bush:
Bush's election campaign ran from "North to south" but was "Running on bravado";
"He doesn't like chocolate" possible reference to Bush's racist stance; either that, or his ignoring the issue of obesity;
"He's born a liar, he'll die a liar"- over Sadam, Iran, etc;
"Stop being so American" is asking us to turn away from the americanisation of our culture; its not the "time" or the "place" to be seen supporting that nation, or the things that characterise it:, such as "James Dean" and "blue jeans";
Bush/America want to "save the world," relying on a "miracle" in that they believe they are God's chosen ones, and that the 'War on Terror' is some divine retribution for Islam's sins;
"Just like his dad"- ignorant and hard-headed, like Bush Snr. "Some things will never be different";
"Queing up for some more junk food:" 1/3 of american children are obese; and "They're getting so much younger";
"Bastard child of guilt and shame/ Bury your head in the sand"- Bush's reluctance to accept the fatal consequences of his actions in Afghanistan and Iraq. |

i can't see this as being about rape at all; its about sex driven purely by lust, and the remorse that that can bring. i get the impression its about connor losing his virginity to a virtual stranger in a foreign land and immediately regretting it; he's taken the anamilistic aspects of sex over its sensitive side.
The flip side to "A Lover I Don't Have to Love," if you will. |

The "spiders from Mars" Corgan talks about are David Bowie's "Spiders from Mars," who were his support band under his earlier alias of "Ziggy Stardust." Sounds irrelevant but is confirmed by the precursory reference to "loud guitars." |

Ok- lets finish this argument once and for all. Last night, at the Hammersmith Apollo, EVERYONE was toking. So Ben goes "I've noticed a lot of you guys smokin that ganja. This is for all of you," and went into 'Burn One Down'. Case closed. |

Totally agree with AzWeThinkIam- anti-war, anti-iraq, and putting forward the similarities betwen 'nam and Iraq. Its kinda the same message as Rage's "No Shelter," with the lyric "Thin line between entertainment and war."
We see everything going on in the world the way the media wants to show it. |

Ok, I know you say your mindless, but SERIOUSLY mindlessTart... The song does not refer to 1984 the year, but Orwell's book "1984". However, I don't think the song is about the aspect of the book which means that everyone's constantly watched. In the book, everyone is groomed to be a follower of "Big Brother" and "The Enemy" is used to unite the people against a common cause. Wars are used to control people, in that they make people feel insecure and vulnerable, so that "Big Brother" is there only hope.
To me, this song is neither (necessarily) anti-Bush nor anti-media nor apocalyptic. Its about the way the world is run by perceptions. Now, these perceptions may be influenced by the media, but they are also influenced by politicians- the majority of politicians, not just the Bush administration.
The "1984" reference refers to the use of 'spin' and the manipulation of the people. |

Thom has repeatedly stated this song has nothing to do with his old headmaster, but it has to be said that it really looks like it does. Perhaps he's trying to spare the feelings of his now aged "bastard headmaster," who is said to be very proud of his former schoolboys. |

The song's about the Westernising ("into stores with bigger names") of several cultures across the world that have remained stable over centuries, only to change in the blink of an eye ("Some things in life may change"). However, whilst all around them is changing, "some things they stay the same," and at the core of these corrupted people is the culture that runs deeper than any modernising. |

| King Prawn – Someone To Hate Lyrics
| 21 years ago

I love it! I think the lyrics are some of the best... Its about how our society, driven by the media, uses outside forces as a target for hate, to rid ourselves of any blame. Bush uses Arab states, tabloids use immigrants.
The way the immigration system is run is the government's responsibility. They do it badly. But the people who run the media also fund the government, so they blame individual immigrants instead of the people in charge. Those individuals are the 'someone's we are taught to hate. |

| Radiohead – I Am a Wicked Child Lyrics

I think the second line says "for" not "cause" which makes it sound more... biblical. Furthermore, the ComLag release now reads as follows:
"Send baby Jesus
To radiate his light
To radiate his light"
The song's about what it seems- sin, and attempts to resist sin. Its odd to hear Thom talk about "Mother Mary" and "Baby Jesus," as he's not a very religious man. However he has said that being a father has made him contemplate the deeper meaning of life further. Either way, its a cracker, one of the best on the EP- which, by the way, is out for general release soon! Hurrah! |

| The Beatles – Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds Lyrics

The song is CLEARLY about LSD, they only said it wasn't so it'd be allowed to be released. Look at the lyrics "PICTURE YOURSELF IN A BOAT ON A RIVER
WITH TANGERINE TREES AND MARMALADE SKIES" Its about the hallucinations the guys got when experimenting with LSD. The Beatles WERE drugs in their latter years, face it!
And it meant they embraced new, more experimental music rather than the drab, five verse, two-line chorus formula they were beginning to get stuck to. LSD! |
