Bush – Mouth Lyrics 3 years ago
I love how everyone tries to make every song about heroin addiction. Heh. Granted, there was a shit ton of heroin addiction in the grunge 90s, but this ain't one of them.

Bush – Greedy Fly Lyrics 3 years ago
Gavin's cryptic nature is maddening, because there's something profound in there, I just don't know what the F it is. Ha. ... This song is incredible. I feel like, as with most Bush songs, when you play it and don't think about it - and sing along - you FEEL like you know what it means ... but then when you stop, and actually try to think about the words, it makes no sense whatsoever. It's a strange effect. ... So I feel like this song is awesome, beautiful, amazing - it makes me feel something that seems so right in the moment -- but then after, I have no idea what the F it was. LOL.

Bush – Machinehead Lyrics 3 years ago
@[applesauce:35133] not sure Gavin can't write - but he does make things maddeningly obscure and vague. It is indeed like a jumble of words. I assume it makes sense to him - but no one else. Most of his songs are like this. Sometimes I think if you just skip every other line, it makes more sense.

Bush – Everything Zen Lyrics 3 years ago
@[eddog29512:35132] sex -- he's saying, the U.S. just loves the violence - there's not even any good stuff in it - like sex. People say "sex and violence on TV is bad" -- but he's saying, not really, dumb Americans just love the violence part, which is bad, but leave the sex out, which would be fine.

Heart – Mistral Wind Lyrics 3 years ago
I don't usually like to assume a meaning when I can't find what the artist has said or written themselves, but it seems pretty obvious that the wind is a metaphor for a lover, or "being in love" situation ... where things were safe, but the love situation was windy and stormy in albeit exciting and heart-pounding ways, and you could just let the feeling blow over you and take you wherever it may. That rush of being in love. And now things are back to being calm again now that it's over, but man, do you miss those feelings.

Temple of the Dog – Hunger Strike Lyrics 3 years ago
yeah I don't know - I've always heard "growing" - maybe because I was influenced by the lyric book. Every other lyric site on earth shows it as "going" - but maybe they're just assuming. ... Then again, the lyric book also has what this page has "their farming babies" - when it should be "they're" - I assume. And other lyric sites also translate to "they're" .... so maybe that proves the lyric book is wrong. I don't know. You can stretch an explanation for "their" - but it's a stretch.

Tool – Schism Lyrics 4 years ago
Straight from the horse's mouth - via ultimate-guitar.com:

Songs from "Lateralus" use the constructs of math and science as metaphors for human life. Maynard James Keenan explained, "They're all about relationships. Learning how to integrate communication back into a relationship. How are we as lovers, as artists, as brothers - how are we going to reconstruct this beautiful temple that we've built and that's tumbled down? It's universal relationship stuff."

Nirvana – Dumb Lyrics 8 years ago
@[courtneydidit:12347] On the literal level, this song is about a drug trip, sure, to help numb yourself. But in the big picture, I agree with you completely. This song is about whether being "dumb" is a necessary ingredient to being happy. Something I quite often wonder myself.

Tool – Sober Lyrics 8 years ago
This is from the perspective of the alcoholic who is pissed that everyone keeps telling him to stop drinking. "Jesus won't you fucking whistle something but the past and done" has NOTHING to do with Jesus or religion. He is saying "Jesus" as in a curse word - like "Jesus F-in Christ, would you shut up and talk about something else" - he's saying this to the people who are always on his case - because he'd prefer to keep drinking

Queensrÿche – Take Hold Of The Flame Lyrics 8 years ago
As with most songs on the album, there's double meaning going on -- the general meaning of hope and overcoming crap ... and then the meaning within the context of the loose-concept album they made. Society breaking down, changing, the need to overcome, stick together

@[musicdood:11423] nice though - and feel free to interpret as you wish - but IMO, this is pretty far off. This is about a computer who is trying to become human - the human son, metaphorically speaking, of his human creator.

@[PigeonWing:11422] I'm not sure you were 100% right - but whoever downvoted you is ridiculous, so I upvoted you to compensate. This album was definitely a loose concept - unlike the absolute concept of Mindcrime. There's a definite thread from start to finish, just like there is with Warning. And this is the closing song of Rage, which sums things up. Pigeon Wing is certainly more on the right track than not. Though I think there's more to it - or shall I say, I'm not sure it's as specific as he says.

Queensrÿche – Roads To Madness Lyrics 8 years ago
This song can only really be understood in the context of the rest of the album. It's not quite the concept album of Mindcrime, but it's pretty close. And as with all great QR albums, it's the killer last track that sums things up.

Queensrÿche – NM 156 Lyrics 8 years ago
Everyone here is right to some degree. Like many good songs, there is the specifics, and then the theme, which is the chorus. I'm more interested in the general theme - that of losing our humanity because of machines - whether imposed by the government or not.

@[Joevanderscher:11121] when this song first came out, I couldn't actually understand what he said there - when I finally realized what he was singing, it crystallized the entire song. It all made sense, and made it powerful. It's an amazing moment to see it live.

The greatest breakup song of all time, if you can use the word "great" to describe excruciating pain. There's a famous performance of this song - which is on YouTube - from around the time this came out, at an outdoor festival. Many of you probably know what I'm referring to. You can see Eddie is genuinely upset while singing the song - he's in the moment completely. I'm sure he had a painful breakup with someone and was still thinking about it. He always puts emotion into all his singing, even today - but that moment you could tell it was particularly strong because it was recent.
