Lana Del Rey – Born to Die Lyrics

@[historicalline:1644] what if when she says " WE were born to die" she's referring to who both of them WERE, in other words, rebels..maybe when she dies, he also dies metaphorically because apart from the obvious thoughts of a part of him dies bc of his guilt, it could also be: the OLD him dies. I do think at some point she feels lonely, hence the huge church she's apparently living in all by herself. But could the church mean something bigger..like being "trapped" in heaven (bc maybe it's after the accident), I meant trapped bc she doesn't enjoy it, she likes danger. |

@[misspanda:1643] nice reflections..this gives me even more questions! it could be a metaphorical prison..but I dont' think she's really referring to an actual guy in her songs..something more deep I guess but then again I might just be hopefully wishing. |

I believe this song is very symbolic; it can have so many meanings. It starts off with an unstable, confusing reflection of Lana on the water...maybe it shows how changing and unstable she is..or even creepier is the fact that soon after a shot of the bad guy shows up looking down at the water, could that mean Lana's a reflection of the bad guy? Then, he starts stripping down into his swimsuit and that could mean two things: he's shedding his sking (transformation) like that of a snake OR he's showing everyone who he really is (not everyone actually because at least I think he thinks nobody's watching him). She's still creepily watching him behind this glass door, showing how she's formed this barrier between whatever wrong thing he's going to do, but then she shows us that she'll cross it if HE does. Then, we see him washing his face..baptism, transformation. Or is he washing his face to hide his tears ("Baby can you see through the tears")? Or does it have something to do with birth (then again, transformation) because of its connotation with water and being close to naked. The water could also symbolize "testing the waters".Then Lana enters his "world" (in other words, the pool) and sees him either for who really is: crocodile (one theory) or for the new "him". Then we see Lana swimming underwater with a whole bunch of crocodiles..notice how the pool now looks a LOT deeper? Then she sinks to the bottom..is she pushed by her "boyfriend"? Does she sink by herself (suicide)? Does one of the crocodiles pull her down? Does the water itself do it for her? Creepy that soon after another quick shot of her actually getting out of the water and opening her eyes..reborn again? He's apparently sad..bc he killed her? Couldn't save her from her suicide? save from her fate? Then he grabs what seems like a lifeless Lana down with her to the bottom of the pool..shows how much he loves her by going down with her? if she's alive at that moment..Lana's willing to do down with him. Black and white might show how intense the everything is, either it's life or death, love or hate..no grey areas. |
