Because people are so blinded by the theory that if any rock star acts rich, and flaunts the millions if dollars which they all have, the he has no 'integrity', and is a sell-out. Kurt Cobain wrestled with this issue in his mind from the very moment he became rich. One story goes that he went to a Seattle Lexus dealership, and said, fuck it, I'm rich, I should be driving a car that reflects that fact. I've worked hard for what I have. When he drive in the driveway, with his fancy new ride, Courtney Love flipped out, calling him a 'sell-out', and saying he'd lost his 'integrity' So he returned it. This moment lived on in his twisted psyche however, and is accredited as one of the many factors and events which lead to his unfortunate suicide. |
