Blur – Girls and Boys Lyrics 10 years ago
Following the herd down to Greece is most likely about the party islands late teens go to.

Alex Turner – Piledriver Waltz Lyrics 10 years ago
"I etched the face of a stopwatch
On the back of a raindrop
And did a swap for the sand in an hourglass"

A rather complex way of saying you put in a lot of hard work (etching anything on a raindrop is impossible let alone a stopwatch) and then leaving it for something a lot less worth it (a stopwatch for an hour glass). A very naïve childish thing to do, like in the playground as a child. However you interpret this point he could mean that he has broken up with one girl for another but it's not worth it.

Arctic Monkeys – Despair in the Departure Lounge Lyrics 10 years ago
It's biographical guys come on. Turner and AM just toured the world so he misses Britain and his girlfriend. Only memory of it is only fools and horses but that's not good enough because he keeps seeing people like her her but they don't come close.
It's sort of like 505 but from another perspective. He may have, prior to this journey or tour, broken up with the girl.

Arctic Monkeys – Fake Tales of San Francisco Lyrics 10 years ago
The irony in 2013/14 is that all though Arctic Monkeys can talk about tales of San Francisco because, let's face it, they're bloody good and they've etched there name in rock history, but alex and co need to get off this elvis impersonation bandwagon. He's talking about how bands need to stop wanting the fame and the money and just play a good tune. However, I feel turner has contradicted himself with the release of AM. This is reflected by the little grin he gave after playing this song at Glastonbury. He knows that the quiff and the leather jacket has made him hypocritical of what he said back in 2005. I love the new album but don't you miss the spotty teens singing about Britain through the eyes of an adolescent. Of course bands have to change cos they aren't living that life anymore and it's nearly a decade since their first single. I think it's great that every album has a different sound, something that other bands cannot do (Oasis, The Smiths etc) but I miss the young punk rockers from High Green.

The Smiths – There Is a Light That Never Goes Out Lyrics 10 years ago
The actual line 'there is a light that never goes out' although it is a metaphor for him never going to see people or life it also relates to the lines about them dying 'if a double decker bus crashes into us' and 'in the darkened underpass I thought oh god my chance has come at last [im guessing this means to die]' because although him and this lover (if he is talking about one) will never die, the light won't be switched off

Morrissey – Everyday Is Like Sunday Lyrics 10 years ago
Morrissey is simply talking about the tacky, run down seaside towns of Britain where the beaches are littered with concrete or wooden groynes, where the promenade has an arcade or an ice cream stall, but it just makes it seem so depressing. Where old people go to retire and people steal your clothes off of the bench;)
I think he is expressing the idea that British beaches, especially in England can be very dull places just like those rainy Sundays you had as a child with absolutely nothing to do as every Brit has probably experienced. This is an opinion that I had before I even heard the song.
