Robert Palmer – Addicted To Love Lyrics

I don't think this song is about drugs per se; rather, he's using drug addiction as a metaphor for obsessive love. Love can make a person feel all the things that the song lyrics describe. |

Simply Red – Holding Back The Years Lyrics

To me the "I'll keep holding on" lyric could have two meanings. The more optimistic one is that he's hanging in there, waiting for his life to get better. Or it could mean that he's holding on to the negative memories because he just can't let them go. Like Gmaddox says, he wants to make positive changes in his life, but the fears instilled by the mental abuse are holding him back. |

Simply Red – Holding Back The Years Lyrics

I thought this song was about growing up in an abusive home, but not having a significant other could be part of the lack of progression he's experiencing in his life. Perhaps his pain would be alleviated if he had love in his life, whether it's a significant other or a mentor/parental substitute. |

Good comment! I thought he chose to use "mater" and "pater" because these are formal names. It's a way of keeping emotional distance from his parents, with whom he doesn't feel close enough to use affectionate names like "Mama" and "Papa". |

Cheap Trick – Tonight It's You Lyrics

I agree with all of you. This song is vastly underrated. Cheap Trick songs express so much feeling with simple words. My favorite part is "come to my world, come away with me". What could be more direct (or romantic) than inviting the person you love to share your world with you? |

Maroon 5 – The Way You Look Tonight Lyrics

I never expected to hear Maroon 5 cover a classic jazz song, but this is great! They get the style and phrasing just right. I wish they would do more like this... |

Band of Horses – Is There a Ghost Lyrics

This is such a great song. It's one of my favorites to listen to when I'm having insomnia. It's comforting to know you're not alone in your sleeplessness. I agree with the others that the "ghost" is a metaphor for something haunting him, possibly bad memories or fears he may have. |

Chris Cagle – Miss Me Baby Lyrics

This part kills me: "Like you did the night you told me that you loved me/
You couldn't wait anymore/Left the keys in the door, took my hand, pulled my down on the kitchen floor." Where are guys like this? |

David Archuleta – Crush Lyrics

Totally agree. And "do you ever think when you're all alone, all that we can be?" I totally understand how that feels, sitting in your room after you've been with the person, and wondering if they're thinking about you. *Sigh*. |

Alabama – Jukebox in My Mind Lyrics

I can't believe no one has commented on this song! The idea of a jukebox that plays memories is a great image. When you really love (and then lose) someone, they leave behind memories that stay with you forever. |
