Oingo Boingo – Dead Man's Party Lyrics | 9 years ago |
It's about drugs, a seemingly well-to-do person who has a hidden drug problem and who goes to a crack house to score. (I'm all dressed up with nowhere to go/Walkin' with a dead man over my shoulder) Someone is trying to live a normal life, but they are feeling their addiction pulling at them. (Waiting for an invitation to arrive/Goin' to a party where no one's still alive) Now they are waiting for a dealer to call or knock on the door with a location of a crack house where they can score. Crack houses are often occupied by crack whores on the edge of death. (I was struck by lighting/Walkin' down the street/I was hit by something last night in my sleep) They are reminiscing about being high on chrystal meth. Lighting is a slang term for amphetamines. Drug use causes insomnia, which often leads back to getting high. (It's a dead man's party/Who could ask for more) Everyone at the crack house is strung out and high, but at least they feel good. (Everybody's comin'...Leave your body and soul at the door) This implies peer pressure and looking forward to walking up to the edge of death. (Got my best suit and my tie/Shiny silver dollar on either eye) Someone has a normal life, but drugs have gotten a hold of them and they are hopelessly addicted. (I hear the chauffeur comin' to the door/Says there's room for maybe just one more) The chauffer is the Grim Reaper and the addict has lost the battle and their life to drugs. |
Duran Duran – Come Undone Lyrics | 9 years ago |
It's a song about a woman's infidelity, written mainly from the point of view of the lover whose arms she run into every time she and her husband have an argument (which she probably instigates.) (Mine, immaculate dream...I've been waiting for you) The lover is always there to fulfill needs. He is always waiting for her. (Happy birthday to you was created for you.) The lover makes her feel like the center of the world. Refrain (from the woman's point of view): (Can't ever keep from falling apart.. At the seams) She always finds a reason for conflict with her husband. (Can't I believe you're taking my heart.. to pieces) She feels guilty for continuing to repeat her infidelity. She blames her lover. (Ahh, it'll take a little time, might take a little crime to come undone) The lover knows that no matter how often she tries to break it off, she will find a reason to continue cheating on her husband. (Now we'll try to stay blind, to the hope and fear outside,) He knows she could work it out with her husband if she wants, but he ignores the idea of losing her. (Hey child, stay wilder than the wind) The lover tells her to pursue the freedom she feels when she is with him. (And blow me in to cry.) Sexual and emotional innuendo combined to express the feeling of orgasm and her feelings of guilt. (Who do you need? Who do you love? When you come undone.) The lover continues to reinforce her need for him, encouraging her to return to him. (Words, playing me deja vu, Like a radio tune I swear I've heard before,) He always hears her say they should stop, but she always returns. (Chill, is it something real, Or the magic I'm feeding off your fingers) She tries to become hard-hearted, but the lover makes love to her anyway. (Lost, in a snow filled sky, we'll make it alright, to come undone,) The experience of making love makes them forget where they are and let's them feel justified in their infidelity. |
Billy Idol – White Wedding Lyrics | 9 years ago |
I agree. Talking about a sister and shotgun wedding does not immediately mean incest. "Nothing safe in this world" is the lament of a brother who couldn't protect his sister. Morons. |
Simple Minds – Don't You (Forget About Me) Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Few songs written hit the heart of what it is to be a teenager, past childhood, but not quite yet to adulthood, with the insecurities of needing to be included, as well as the fear of the unstructured future that lies past high school, when we suddenly become responsible for ourselves, seemingly without warning. From standing in the corner, bobbing and swaying to the music, but afraid to ask a girl to dance for fear she will say no, to being the girl, swaying and bobbing, hoping someone will ask her to dance. Being thrust into a scenario together with kids you would not normally associate with, detention, band, sports teams or other things, getting to know someone and liking them until running into them in their own element, hanging with the stoners, the metal heads, the nerds, the rich kids, where they (and you) are afraid to say hi, afraid of the embarrassment if their (or your) friends don't like you (or them). Just wanting to someone to say hi, wanting to be invited into their (or you) crowd, then feeling the shame of rejection. And, for some, realizing late in their high school life, that it wasn't that big a deal, you (or they) could have said hi, could have extended the invitation. And later in life, if you're lucky, you run into some of those kids who are not part of your crowd or didn't invite you into theirs and you realize, we weren't that different. |
James Blunt – You're Beautiful Lyrics | 10 years ago |
It's sad, because the man in this song seems to be heart broken over one woman in particular. The poor guy seems to live in an introverted world, holding back his emotions, afraid to say out loud what he feels for a woman. He probably had his heart broken by a woman in his past and is unable to deal with it. He probably sees her in other attractive women who are with other men. The woman he loves probably chose someone else over him and now he might be turning to drugs or alcohol to help him deal with it. Maybe it just happened and he got high aftewards. |
A Great Big World – Say Something Lyrics | 10 years ago |
It could have other meanings but its essence is a woman (or at least the submissive one) breaking up with a man or dominant partner. Her asking him to say something while stating she is giving up on him is a last attempt confirm she is making the right decision. For women, the breakup itself is not the end until the event is complete. For a man, the decision would already have been made, the breakup just a difficult formality. He wouldn't need her to talk, in fact the converse would be more likely. He would prefer she not say anything. The male voice singing is probably the man remembering what she said and repeating it in song. FYI this is a man posting this message. |
