None taken :) I really enjoyed reading your interpretation and I reckon it's far more accurate than mine... You've really given it some thought (more than I did, obviously) and I admire the insight.

I might be terribly wrong, though... :)

I think it's about a young woman with a child. The father is not taking his responsibilities and a distance has grown between them. Perhaps 'the back of the hand' even refers to some sort of domestic violence in their household. The partner on the receiving end of things is flirting with the idea of leaving, because there is little left to stay for. However, having nowhere to go and still holding on to the idea of turning things around in the relationship is preventing her from leaving. This line of thought, however, is about to backfire and destroy what's left of them.

London Grammar – Sights Lyrics 10 years ago
Since no one's given it a try so far, I might as well get the ball rolling.

To me, it feels like a love story in the making. She knows the object of her desire is feeling the same thing she is, yet he does not act on it. On the inside, she's urging the other person to step up and admit his feelings, but she suspects he's too scared to open up to those feelings.

Probably because both of them are in a tough spot (perhaps they're already friends?)--> 'What are you afraid of? Making it better?'
...and it would not be bearable should they lose what they have right now

--> 'keep on, keep it together' might in this case refer to the difficulty of the decision he has to make: will he risk it? --> he'll wander around some more or leave.. It's as if she's looking at him from a distance, watching him struggle with himself and his fear of taking the leap. She then hopes he'll be strong, stay on his path and 'keep the straight line' , in which case they will run into each other and they'll be where they need to be.
This way, she needs him to be like winter lights, lighting up the dark path that is full of trouble and is keeping them apart. It seems however he's even more scared than she is and she hopes he'll not give up.

~ It's just a guess, I hope someone has more/other insights about the story behind these lyrics and this great song. It's one of my favourites from their album!

Cheers

I'm having trouble figuring out a few of London Grammar's songs. Any of you figured this one out, already? I absolutely love their stuff...

I enjoyed reading your interpretation and I think it's spot on. Except maybe about the part Tiger_milk pointed out. However, not important...

Good job with this amazing song.. one of their best imo
