Dear ColorGuardGirl, I created an account specifically to reply to your interpretation. I absolutely loved what you wrote. It not only spoke directly to my own experiences, but it gave me hope knowing that someone out there felt and thought just like I did about this song. The first time I heard this song, it immediately uplifted me . . . there has been so much death in my life, and somehow this song is very healing whenever I am feeling aggrieved, regretful, insecure, and/or down. Today is Thanksgiving, and I lost a child on this day four years ago, so ever since then, I have dreaded Thanksgivings, but I try to make the most of them with the loved ones around me. My favorite person in the whole world when I was a child - my older brother - died of cancer from AIDS years ago, and when I hear this song and also read your words, both things brighten my spirit quite a bit more and help me forgive myself, too, from all the mistakes I could kick myself for making in my life, knowing from these and other deaths, just how precious our time here really is.
