Also, when she says "I don't believe any of it", she's referring to the reasons the subject's head provides about why his/her dreams can't happen - they're the same reasons that the subject provides to Imogen when she tries to encourage the subject to pursue his/her dreams. |

I always thought this song was about someone logically afraid to love, but this theory actually makes complete sense of the song! Although I would actually phrase it differently: this song is about someone afraid to follow their dreams (the true desires of their heart) because their head says their dreams are unrealistic and impossible to achieve. Another line to support this theory: "Go walking, you've been hiding, And you look half dead half the time." Someone's who's given up on their dreams will certain look half dead a lot of the time! |

That possibility uh... frankly hadn't occured to me. Not too common I guess. Sorry about that. |
Florence + the Machine – What the Water Gave Me Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I think it's a play on words. The world is a burden, yes, but it's a rather LARGE burden at that. You might even say it's a BEAST of one. Just as I might call Bruce Lee a "beast of a man" In other words, "beast of" in this context just means "formidable". |
Florence + the Machine – Never Let Me Go Lyrics | 10 years ago |
What I'm 90% sure are the REAL lyrics (taking a while to get approved): Looking up from underneath Fractured moonlight on the sea Reflections still look the same to me As before I went under And it's peaceful in the deep Cathedral where you cannot breathe No need to pray, no need to speak Now I am under Oh, and it's breaking over me A thousand miles down to the sea bed Found the place to rest my head (Never let me go, never let me go Never let me go, never let me go) And the arms of the ocean are carrying me And all this devotion was rushing out of me And the crush is a heaven for a sinner like me But the arms of the ocean deliver me Though the pressure's hard to take It's the only way I can escape It seems a heavy choice to make But now I am under, oh And it's breaking over me A thousand miles down to the sea bed Found the place to rest my head (Never let me go, never let me go Never let me go, never let me go) And the arms of the ocean are carrying me (So cold and so sweet) And all this devotion was rushing out of me And the crush is a heaven for a sinner like me But the arms of the ocean deliver me And it's over and I'm going under But I'm not giving up I'm just giving in Ohhh, slipping underneath Sooo, so cold and so sweet In the arms of the ocean, so sweet and so cold And all this devotion I never knew at all And the crush is a heaven for a sinner released And the arms of the ocean deliver me (Never let me go, never let me go Never let me go, never let me go) Deliver me (Never let me go, never let me go Never let me go, never let me go) Never let me go, never let me go) Deliver me (Never let me go, never let me go) Never let me go, never let me go) Deliver me Never let me go, never let me go And it's over And I'm going under But I'm not giving up I'm just giving in Ohhh, slipping underneath Ooo, so cold and so sweet --------------------------------------------------------------- So yeah, it's definitely about being overwhelmed, and for a majority of the song she's singing as if sitting/lieing on the ocean floor. If you're confused about the 2 major changes I think should be made, let me explain: "The deep cathedral" is the ocean floor. I believe I've heard it called this before, but I can't remember where... "The crush is a heaven" - the ocean floor, a thousand miles down, so the "crush" is the water pressure (i.e. the weight of all the water above her). It's a comfort to her because being overwhelmed to such a degree makes her forget her sins, since she literally can't focus on anything else but the water. |

Punctuation and proper capitalization would have been brilliant... |
