Peter Murphy – Strange Kind Of Love Lyrics 10 years ago
Knowing that Peter grew up Catholic and then apparently embraced Islamic beliefs around 1990 when this song was released - I believe it represents Peter's inner discussion about his Catholic faith and then his eventual move to an Islamic influence.

The first verse symbolizes his view of Jesus Christ and the promise of heaven.
The second verse symbolizes what heaven offers.
The third verse symbolizes the "hold" that Catholicism has on him.
The fourth verse symbolizes that he must choose between his faiths.
The fifth verse in the newer (extended) version discusses "Somebody sometime has to leave another - for a place ..." and then repeats the second verse which describes heaven.

I believe, and its only my opinion, that the song represents his struggle with growing up Catholic and then turning to Islam later in life. (He eventually moved to Turkey) The fifth verse which was added later essentially implies that entry to heaven can be obtained through faith - be it Catholic or Islamic doctrine.
